The KeyLock newel post fastener works on finished floors, stairs, ceramic tile and concrete. The fastener is completely concealed when installed, no extra trim required! As the lag bolt head slides down the tapered keyhole slot, the newel post and floor draw tightly together for a strong installation.
Watch video @ 7:14 - How to install newel post on ceramic tile
Use the KeyLock fastener for joining other surfaces when a strong and flush or removable installation is needed, i.e. ; Mantels, shelves, signs, furniture, etc.
    Recommended for interior use.
ALWAYS CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL BUILDING CODE BEFORE INSTALLATION OF ANY STAIRWAY.

I wish someone would do a video on how to tighten a loose round newel post that is in the middle of the bottom step. I cannot find one such video anywhere.

I always put the lug into the tread and the plate on the newel 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thank you for that suggestion. I was wondering why the video showed one way on the stair, but on tile and concrete was reversed. I guess routing out tile and concrete would be a pain. But on a stair tread, I think your way would be better since, the lug could go straight through the tread in to the stringer underneath.

Shouldnt I place the plate on the floor so that the end of the key shape is in the centre of the traced out shape of the Newell post? It kinda looks like he didn’t do that in the video. I don’t wanna be off centre

The instructions on the CZcams video are correct.
Draw a line around the newel post base at the determined location. Set the keylock plate in the center of the drawing. Trace around the outside of the keylock plate and the inside of the keyhole slot. Follow the instructions on the package or the CZcams video to install.

Can this fastener be used with a 3 x 3" post or is it too large?

What about for a 6" round log post?
I'm needing a log railing for my cabin loft. There is a 8" trim board laying flat on top of the staircase that the log post will need to fasten to.

She’s an American of Hispanic descent. But if she had to select a race on an application the choices are usually white, African, Asian, Pacific Islander…so yes she would have to choose white because that’s the closest more of less. She doesn’t identify as white even though she has light skin and light eyes. Nothing wrong with being a proud daughter of Mexican parents. Maybe she meant white guys go for blondes..although that’s not necessarily true.

Check your provincial building code before you use this product. In Ontario you must fasten newel posts to solid wood, period no mention of using key lock or anything like that.
My home builder used this and my post became loose and unsafe within weeks of moving in. Found out we have no bullnose and he screwed into the LVL beam through particle board sub floor.
Might be more about crappy builder and inspector then product, but product does not meet Ontario code the. Way it reads.
Heading to small claims over this.

Solid backing is required to securely install a newel post using
the KeyLock newel post fastener. The following instructions
regarding backing are included in the packaging.
Newel Post Location: Place newel post in the desired
location where adequate backing is available.
New Construction: To provide adequate backing on a
stair tread, install two 2x6’s between stair jacks and
      finish as usual.
Remodeling: If adequate backing is not available, inlet plate
in bottom end of the newel post and screw lag bolt into stair
      stringer.
