    CORRECTION:
    1:06:17 - Technically when changing eras all players have to discard down to their hand size before anyone takes another turn, NOT at the start of each player's next turn.

    Fantastic playthrough as usual. Thanks so much for your efforts Jon! I'd heard that a heavy kelp strategy was a surefire winner, so it's great to see such a close race.
    This game was the highlight of Essen 2018 for me. I've seen so many complaints about the production quality and artwork but, for me, they're both totally fine and far outweighed by the excellence and enjoyability of the mechanics. Vladimir is on a roll - can't wait to see what he comes up with next!

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  Před 5 lety

      I read that thread about heavy kelp being overpowered as well. I've gone quite heavy in kelp in two of my plays so far, but haven't cracked 110 points yet and I saw people saying they were getting well over 120 so perhaps they are executing it better than I have been. Either way, I generally try to play the game towards to benefits that I see on the cards as I built out my strategy organically because that's more fun to me and hopefully also competitive.

    • @All_Ice117
      @All_Ice117 Před 5 lety

      I was almost convinced to get it, but knowing this could change my mind.
      After several plays, does the kelp strategy keep being the winning one or are there multiple routs to victory? Is there the runaway leader problem? I'm concerned now =S.

  • @pilotboba
    @pilotboba Před rokem

    Came here for a refresh. I didn't notice that at 1:07 ish when you finish the 1st era you mentioned that you have to discard to your hand limit at the start of your turn. But, the rules state that all players need to discard to hand limit before play for that round begins. I assume this is due to an advantage later players would have with some many options after seeing where people have played.
    Page 16 in my rules:
    Once everyone has discarded down to 3 cards, you are ready to play the
    next era with the new deck; or if you have completed the third era, you are
    ready for final scoring.

    I saw the high rating for this game, so I came here to see what the hype is all about. It has some of the worst production choices I have ever seen. It looks even worse than terraforming Mars. At least TM has theme. The player boards and rule book are abysmal. The main board almost as bad. The iconitis and bland resource conversion are two gameplay mechanics that need to die a quick death. Do not understand how this gets an average 8 rating. I am watching this video and I’m literally bored out of my mind. Then they released a ‘fix’ with the expansion that costs as much as the main game. So, $150 to have the complete fixed version. Why would anyone support this company or designer? They are both hacks.

    you could of swapped a steal for a science twice in your last round when you activated two action cards(2:24:35 and 2:25:23)...you would have had to grab a steel instead of a food off the main action but it would have netted you the two points needed to win even with oranges missing point.

    Hard to grip what's going on with the theme in detail, got more interesting after watching a while. Game seems great mechanically. But what turns me off is that half the cards are "smuggling", "corruption" and "black market". Because appearantly that's cool? I don't wanna pretend to be that person.
    The game is about building/developing to help people according to the rule book, I feel there's a contradiction there. Those cards could easily have been themed in another way, while staying the same mechanically.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  Před 5 lety

      This is a really interesting criticism that I hadn't noticed. You make a good point about the thematic disconnect there, at least with how many cards seem to be themed in a "underhanded" way. Personally I don't have an issue with it, but it's interesting to note none the less.

      @@TorIverWilhelmsen Yeah but see, the mechanics trump everything when it comes to deciding which is the better game, and Pulsar comes out on top.
      EDIT: for me at least, I shouldn't even have to say it. It's my opinion.

    For a game with such a great theme, the overall appearance looks really underwhelming.....Thanks for sacrificng yourself to show it to us.

      This is absolutely true. Personally I would have dropped the world map in the background of the main board, and made the player boards with the cities have a more realistic layout. That 3x3 grid is an eyesore.

      @@TheFilipFonky Overall I really like the art in the game, but agree that the graphic design of the board is busy and could use a lot of work. Many people seem to dislike the art itself, but for some reason it appeals to me.

    games like these need to go straight to pc and ios. too much upkeep to be fun, and a single happy dog or cat would wreak havoc. pass.

      My cat is worse when he’s unhappy! Full of spite he is, and will mysteriously develop a need to upturn an entire game like this if you so much a signore him for an hour!
