  • So this continues our previously interrupted journey around the Far Eastern (and UK) warehouses looking for useful and cheap components that we just cannot do without when building our next Arduino project.
Here I cover essentials such as heat-shrink tubing, a really useful electrolytic capacitor selection and some self-tapping screws, amongst some other items that will make their way into future projects (or become a project in their own right).
So now's the time to get in some (cheap-but-not-nasty) stocks ready for the dark winter nights when your Arduino project building takes on a new lease of life!
If you like this video please give it a thumbs up, share and if not already subscribed please do so :)

You mention a lower limit of 0.4uF (?) for electrolytics, I have some (salvaged) in 0.1, 0.22, 0.33, and 0.47. They were quite commonly used in some of the VCRs I scrapped some time ago. I can't see why you'd want to use one of these as opposed to the many other ways you could get 0.1uF, though.

Electrolytics are the devil's spawn, Ray, as they fail (dry out) far too easily over time (and heat is a big enemy) but it's the only way to get bigger values. I use ceramic where possible for lower values these days.

I had to start buying parts cabinets and storage drawers for larger components, but to be fair, I build dozens of projects a month, so I need lots of parts immediately available

I'm not jealous of this statement at all: "I build dozens of projects a month". How? Do you not need sleep? Or do you build 30 flashing LED projects a month? Seriously, even if I didn't have a full time job I could build that many! And I totally agree that the immediate availability of parts is essential to keep things moving which is why I have buying splurges with AliExpress and the like just to ensure I don't run out (doesn't always work, but close enough). So tell me, Raymond, how do manage so many projects in a month?

the majority of my projects are kits for others in exchange for software development. the rest are one off microcontroller boards or accessory boards for micro trainers or specific projects. my major problem is I love to build boards but a lot get set aside before I actually use them. lately it's Julian Illet and your fault. ..

Sorry, Julian who? Nope, never heard of him, he said, very envious of his reputation and following! And that fact that he (unknowingly) got me into the Arduino business at all. I was impressed with this electronics knowledge and that he, too, got articles published in Practical Electronics years ago. I wish I had preserved my copies like he did. But I'm well flattered that you take the time to watch my videos at all Raymond, so thank you indeed.

11:34, I also encountered problems with ebay history listing a few times in the past..

So probably not a setting on my machine then. Thanks for letting me know, it's really irritating when it continually happens. Given that I order quite a lot from eBay I try and track what has arrived and what is still on that slow boat from China so it's important I can see my purchase history. Let's hope they get it fixed soon. Appreciate your post.

sure, I write my orders at an excel spreadsheet as well with details of order date and price in case of such irritating malfunction happens and also to track what items I possess at my electronics repository section in general

I have this problem with Ebay too. Reload 3-300 times seems to work, lol.

Since that time, James, it seems to be be better behaved (or I've ordered less on eBay, can't work out which is the more likely!).
