You really make it easy and clear to make informed decisions when purchasing different collectibles. I’ve inherited many pieces from my grandmother, (the 30’s), my mother and mother in law, ( the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s). Many pieces I’ve worn, some I have not, so they are in excellent condition. But like I taught my sons an appraisal gives you an approximate idea of monetary value, so you have an idea of what to ask, if your selling it.......so, regardless of anyone’s background antiques are still at the mercy of what someone is willing to pay for it.

I have a bunch of costume jewelry I have no idea what it is worth . I have an old oriental plate with hand painted shrimp and crabs on it and a red oriental signature on the bottom . It's in a different language I have no idea who it is but it is a very old plate
