Every shoujo / josei video and shoujo / josei content creator that blows up gets us 1 step closer to more mainstream appreciation, more translations & more releases.
Thanks for helping us get there, you deserve every one of those 15K and all the subs still on the way.
congrats!!! i'm so glad you're putting out quality content for shoujo, we need more of it in this world!
Thank you so much!!
Agree!
fr, one of the best youtubers on the topic
Right ???
Shojo for me is the most sleeper hits I've ever read, it's not a genre I always go for but some of the best reading adventures I have mentally traveled are shojos whether it be just guilty pleasures or a favorites list honorable mention .
Seeing you cry about your top favorite is honestly so wholesome ;; it’s very clear how passionate you are and how excited you are to share these stories ♡♡
When I got to the plot twist in Tsubasa I screamed and threw the book across the room. The proceeded to reread the entire series to find all the various hints and clues the mangaka left for us. A true masterpiece at leaving breadcrumbs.
Im gonna need to reread Tsubasa one day cuz i got really lost in the sauce ^^;;
I want to see Colette and 7 Seeds in English so badly, they both have the kinds of premises I'm looking for! Not to mention the gorgeous art. An excellent list, I will definitely be checking out these series!!
OMG TSUBASA CHRONICLES!! I just finished the book a few days and it truly is one of the greatest mangas of all time… I remember a few days ago being so angry because of how confused I was with the story near the end, but when everything came together and I was able to see the picture… I was shocked at how beautifully CLAMP put together the story… This and Rayearth are CLAMPs best >>>
EDIT: Also there does end up being a ton of emotional damaging parts near the end it’s a lot 😭 but it’s done so beautifully
I really need to read the Rayearth manga. I only own the anime as of right now. My favorite CLAMP works are Cardcaptor sakura and chobits. (At least out of what I've completed). I rember reading all of tsubasa years ago but I've forgotten quite a bit and haven't read the sequel. I've read Wish,Clover,12 volumes of xxxholic,Clamp school detectives, one volume of Blood C,and two volumes of Angelic layer as well. Luckily Kodansha seems to be licensing a lot of them so I'll be able to continue.(and reread tsubasa before the sequel)
You probably don't read comments this late, but just wanted to say I love seeing someone else get teary-eyed over Yumi Tamura's writing. I read Basara back in high school and slowly collected the volumes. I lived in Japan after that and immediately bought the whole series in Japanese because it was on sale at a Book Off. I then got into 7 Seeds and spent too much time trying to convince others to reads any of her stories. I love seeing other fans!! I learned Japanese to be able to read amazing stories that weren't available in English, and the translator of Basara really influenced me too. I've had some opportunities to translate/QA for various companies... but I'm hoping someday I can help be someone who brings these fringe series to English audiences. :)
Fruits Basket is my favorite manga of all time but Twinkle Stars is also amazing and thank you for giving it recognition!
I adore Snow White with the Red Hair! It was one of the first series that I ever really got into! I would almost scream every time there was a new development in Shirayuki and Zen's relationship! I love your content so much! Keep the great work!
It was great to hear you speak so passionately about the manga you love. I almost teared up myself watching you talk Chihayafuru!
I'll be adding those I haven't read (more than half) to my reading list!
I don't know how I'm going to get through a full Chihayafuru video without crying when I try to do that.... 😓
Omg I started to cry right along with you as soon as you mentioned Chihayafuru 😭 I cannot tell you how much I love Taichi and how this manga is precious to me. It's also my all time favorite. Thank you for making such great content. Congrats on 15K subs!!! You deserve it and you will get so much more I'm sure ! I just love you and can't get enough of your videos !
WHEN YOU SAID CHIHAYA IS THE SUN AND TAICHI IS THE MOON… YEAH I STARTED CRYING TOO. LIKE GODDAMN I CRIED SO MUCH THROUGHOUT CHIHAYAFURU IT REALLY IS PEAK
I can't think about the sun and moon parallel without sobbing 😭😭😭
I just want to say that you're a breath of fresh air in the magatube world and I look forward to more content!!!
I recently started the Chihayafuru anime thanks to your channel and i can’t thank you enough, i’m halfway into season 2 and i feel so attached to all of the characters especially Taichi.. now i need the physicals 😭
Furudate's paneling is SO GOOD. It's one of the reasons I recommend people read it in addition to watching it.
kimi ni todoke hit me really hard. when i graduated high school i was pretty much the sawako of my school at a lot of points in my life (literal kids running from me in grade school kinda bullied), so i identified with her almost immediately. i literally joined a scanlation group back in the day (mango scans iirc) as an editor to yes, help with the group since they were hiring, but also get chapters early. back then, the localization wasn't even out yet and volume 5 or 6 was the current one (*note i own all the manga now, please support your manga creators*).
i just absolutely fell in love with the story and wanted to see the two progress. i was going through a lot at the time and generally felt lost.
after some time, i finally went to college, and the messages of the story stuck with me. i pushed myself and made a lot of great friends. graduated college and the final volume came out. i... sobbed like a baby reading it. the series means a lot to me and i'm glad i read it all.
OMG if I was reading the scans from your group back when it was releasing monthly that would be crazy..... I started the series I think when it only had a few volumes out as well and followed it until I also went to college. Didn't finish it entirely until I realized I never read the last 3-4 volumes or so back in 2018.
@@ColleensMangaRecs that'd be absolutely wild. it was great working with them, they put a lot of effort in the scans. they're broken up now it seems, but i hope they're all doing well.
Colleen is the shoujo/josei hero that we both needed and asked for🫡❤️ I would love to see you do a monthly or occasional series where you review some new shoujo (or any manga) you picked up!
So glad you mention that because I was thinking of trying to do a monthly "manga wrap up" of whatever I've read or something along those lines. We shall see!!
I second this!!!!
I'm genuinely amazed how chihayafuru managed to keep its quality and pacing from start to finish. There was not a single scene in the manga I thought it was either dragged out or rushed.
I think this is the most consistent manga I ever read in terms of quality.
Really sad the manga will end shortly. It was truly a bless to have followed the journey of such an amazing cast of characters till the end.
You've said it perfectly. This manga has never once dipped in enjoyment, emotional moments, or depth. Yuki Suetsugu put her heart into this series and you can just tell how much she loves it as much as any fan of the series does.
Tears for Taichi!
Seriously I love Chihayafuru, I stopped watching anime for years and I decided to gave it a go when the first season was still airing. It got me right back into anime. I wish there was physicals for the English manga.
Twinkle Stars is good! I was SO MAD in the final act (in a good way).
Snow White with the Red Hair is just wholesome. It's just nice to see a couple that just like each other and are functional and healthy.
You got me reading Prince Freya and I'm already obsessed.
Congrats on 15k subs 🎉
Really glad there’s more content creators pushing more manga than just Shonen and Seinen, balance is healthy and hopefully more people jump on some great series 😌
youre awesome!! ive been in love with shoujo since i was 9 years old (im 17 now)and it seems its severely underappreciated and talked about so having a youtuber that loves shoujo and josei so much makes me happy to see :) especially since you bring to light many series that even ive never heard of!! thank you very much for starting a channel and sharing your thoughts with the world ^_^
Love to see this list!! So happy to see 7 Seeds so high on the list!! The world building of 7 Seeds is so incredibly good and I really wish for a day where English readers can get a chance to read it (even though the netflix anime might have hurt it's chances....) Also just so happy to hear from someone else who has read it!!
Ahhh, this video really takes me back.... so many of these manga are ones I was really into back in the day and watching this is making me want to go back and get back into manga again! I don't read nearly as much manga as I did when I was in highschool, but whenever I do get back into manga, I always crave shojo! It's great to finally have someone who will actually give shojo recs, rather than just hopping in again blind!
Seeing you cry about your favorite character made me feel 1000x better about the characters I cry about because I do the exact same thing. 😂 Just getting into shojo/Josei so I added quite a few stories to my TBR- thank you! Also, I loved to hear what impacted you about Haikyu- that series is also in my top 5 because I connected with certain characters so much but also because of the philosophies that Furadate puts in. I picked up on very different things than you so it was awesome to hear different insights!
And... she's done it agai! You convinced me to read a couple series more that I was avoiding for flimsy reasons. I'm definitely checking out Chihayafuru, Twinkle Stars and QQ Sweepers. I'm still not sure about I Want to Hold Aono-kun So Badly I Could Die, I'm worried about potential triggers.
I'm glad I wasn't the only weirdo that acted like I was watching a volleyball game when I was reading Haikyuu. I may or may not have woken up a neighbor or two, especially while reading the last volumes (that ending though *chef's kiss*).
I've never heard anyone talk about Machida-kun no sekai. I loved it when I read it online. I hope a Spanish publisher picks it up, but if they don't then I may just buy the volumes in French.
YOU are the special one, Colleen!! Thank you for having the courage to step up and bring shoujosei into the spotlight. You represent so many of us and we couldnt be happier and more supportive!!! ❤️
I appreciate how you talk about each series with such love. It really makes me want to read them all. Im currently reading 7Seeds because of your last video and it is an absolute blast! It really is a shame there isn't an official english translation yet!
Keep up the good work!
Snow White is my favorite manga series, it’s just soooooo fun and wholesome- and I gotta say I love how your hair is the same color as Shirayuki’s ❤
Thnx so much for this! ❤
This helped me a lot to try out new shoujo mangas
i'm supposed to take a history test soon, but it's online and i have made the exective descision that this is more important. (plus, history is what i'm best at, it shouldn't be a struggle.)
anyways, congrats on 15k subbies! you definitely deserve it 💙 i subscribed because you were the only person who talked about shoujo/josei regularly! also very much relate to "series on my top 15 usually don't stay there for a long time" ah the cyclical nature of life
Thank you so much and good luck on your history test lol!!!
I watched almost all of your videos and I can tell that what I like the most about them it's your passion and the way you express yourself. You're fangirling all the time and I completely relate to that bc IM FANGIRLING ALL THE TIME. It's an absolute joy to watch your videos. Keep it going girl
I read Chihayafuru because of this video and I can't thank you enough for this recommendation. I've been crying since the first volume this manga just tugs at your heartstrings. I finished reading it an hour back and I already want to reread it and I need to get my friends to read it as well. Thankyou so much for this and I'll be waiting for more chihayafuru content I'm surprised by how little discussion there is of this manga.
I AM SOBBING! When you talked about Chihayafuru, I just burst into tears! Also with Haikyuu
As a long time Natsume Yuujinchou fan, I've only seen the anime and I loved it so much seeing this video makes me want to buy the whole book series! Please make a video about it I'd love to watch
Love the review congrats on 16k you deserve it!!
CONGRATS 🥳
It's always fun to watching your videos, and I've been enjoying every recommendations you gave me 😁 Keep up the great work, I'm already looking forward to your next videos!!
I enjoyed this video so much! I just started watching Chihayafuru. I would love to read it! I wish it were in print but I guess I will be saving up my amazon reward points to get the digital version! Great job!
congratulations on 15k!! I am happy for you and really enjoyed this video!! Natsume, Kimi ni todoke and A condition called love are also in my top 15 definitely. Again big congratulations!!I am glad to have a great shoujo/josei creator here to follow :)
You are a great storyteller!! Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for some obviously great mangas with us.
I got 10 right lol. My only surprise is I thought Yona Of The Dawn would be on here. I actually thought you like Yona more than Snow White with the Red Hair.
But yeah, loveeee your content and thankful you got me out of my shonen bubble and introduced a lot of great shojo/josei recommendations. It’s a whole other world!!!!
I really appreciate how passionate you are talking about the manga that you love. That was really fun to watch lol.
I shouted "YES" out loud when you mentioned Kimi ni Todoke in your top 5, it's such a special and wholesome story and will always be a shoujo classic imo.
Also laughed out loud at the "say it with me everyone... The world building!" 😂
This is one of the only "top favorite" lists I've ever seen that didn't disappoint me. Every single choice in it is ACTUALLY GOOD manga, and not some garbage filled with nothing but trashy fanservice.
You've got amazing taste for manga!
AHHH congrats btw and loved ur video!! 💗💗💗💗
Yay more manga to read! Loving your videos :) I recommend you Princess Jellyfish.
Amazing content as always and great top. You talk about every manga with so much passion, it's endearing.
Congrats!! I'm looking forward to see more of your videos! ★
I'm so happy to see so many of my own favorites on your list! Specially TRC, I also read it through highschool, and so vividly remember reading the last volume after final year's exams in a park nearby...
I really appreciate your channel, we really need more content creators focused on shoujo/josei! I share a lot of your opinions and I'm always learning something new with your videos, it has renewed my love for this genre, so thank you! And congratulations on the 15k!
Bless you a thousand times over. I loved shoujo/josei in middle and high school, but all my friends are shounen fans and it's got me out of the loop. As I've been watching your channel, I've uncovered some of my new favorite manga (namely, Umi ga Hashiru End Roll and Basara). I FELT that reaction to your fave manga. I do that with stories I love all the time and I've tried not to but I can't and now I'm just like "this is how I am, deal with it" XD
The way you described each of the manga made me want to read all of them lol thanks for the great suggestions!😄
Congrats on 15k 🥳 I was cry-laughing with you on Chihayafuru 🥲
Congratulations to you wonderful video thanks so much for sharing. I'll check out these Manga and give them a read.😁
I freaking adore tour vidéos, the y are so constructive and eye opening, allowing me to see things in a different way.
Never expected to laugh during a ranking video! Thank you for the laughs, your energy and enthusiasm are infectious! XD Since you also enjoy older manga, have you read Please Save My Earth before? Based on your reviews, I think you would enjoy it.
Yup! Love that series!!
Machida-kun no Sekai fan here, love love love it. And like you said reading it just makes you wanna be a better person and I think we should get more series that evokes that in people.
Colleen's back with even more awesome recommendations! ^-^
So many cool series!! Thank you for exposing the community to more shoujosei manga with your awesome content. I'm learning a lot on my way to become a shoujo connaisseur myself 🏃🏻
Congrats on 15k!! Whoo!🎉🎉 I love your list! And your videos are what I need these days, so happy to see someone genuine and full of passion for manga and shoujo talk about it- not to mention also really knowledgeable and well spoken! 😊
Yes!!!! Thank you!!! Congrats!!! 🎉🎊 🥳
watching you talk about chihayafuru and i just teared up with you lmao chihayafuru is such a special series to me as well, it's hard to put into words. thank you for this wonderful video! 💞
Almost fell to my knees when you recommended Tsubasa Reservior Chronicles, from elementary to college that story has had my heart and it deserves SO much love and I hope that with the xxxholic drama happening and it’s manga getting a revisit, clamp will start eyeing trc and try adapting it into a completed anime again with ALL the arcs included 😭😭🙏🏾 also I was watching one of your vids about the decline of shoujo animes and saw trc manga in the background and tried to find a vid where you talked about it and here I am ✨
Despite loooooving the manga it's still been awhile since I've read it so I can't entirely speak on it anymore but it's still one of my absolute faves! Rewired my brain lmao
I found Natsume yuujinchou back in college when I was feeling lost and the anime got me through so much. I've never read the manga but I'm so glad you like it!
TSUBASA YES YES YES my love for that series is so deep 😭♥️ it was my first manga i ever read and remains one of my top favorites. the art, story, CHARACTERS OH MY GOSH and the PLOT TWIST HALFWAY THROUGH AHDHDJEBDJFKKDJDOSIIEKSK
also i love how passionate you are about your favorite series :)) it made me so happy to see
Hypeeeeee. Congratulations!
After watching this video, I started reading Aono-kun manga. Finished first 20 chapters, the mystery just sucks you in.
I really like watching your videos. You are the most sincere person I've seem when talking about something you love.
Well, I just put a lot more to read on my TBR. 😂😂Thank you. You're very convincing and I love how you react to books and characters - not stupid at all!!!!!
Great video as usual. I particularly have a lot of memories of watching the Snow White with the Red Hair anime adaption as a teen. Keep up the good work!
thanks for sharing your love! lots added to my list. Your enthusiasm is so great.
Congrats on the numbers. You deserve it. I don't always agree with your opinions but it would be boring if I did.
My manga collection has become more diverse over the last 6 months and your recommendations have definitely played a part in it.
I just found out your channel rn! And I know that I will love your videos!!! ^^
Seeing you cry for Chiayafuru really makes me wanna read it ASAP! The only thing I could think is that it has to be so good (and probably I will get emotional too after I'll do it 🙈) Seeing people this attached and emotional about things they love is just wondering, you don't seem even a bit du.mb😊💙
Discovered you recently and just wanted to say congratulations and I love your takes on Shoujo since it's pretty underrepped. Also shoutout Haikyu! my fave mangarino!
Muchas gracias por tus vídeos hermosos! La verdad que es genial tener una voz que hable de shojo con la misma pasión que uno mismo tiene por el género. Gracias gracias!!
Right now your my fav anime content creator, all your videos are so well done and the context is NOT boring neither monotonous ❤️
Colleen, i just want to take this moment to thank you for getting me back to shoujo and presenting me more josei mangas. I got back to anime in December 2020 and manga in January 2021 but all i was reading and watching was shonen but discovering your tiktok account revived my love for shoujo that i had in high school and middle school. Thank you! I hope u keep growing and so the shoujosei community ❤️
I just got caught up with reading Colette decides to die after your recommendation in one of your other videos!! It's become top of my list favorite already it made me so emotional and happy. I caught up and immediately came to this video to pick another recommendation from you, on to read Chihayafuru!!!
Omgggg that makes me so happy 😭😭 I am so glad you liked it and are not trying Chihayafuru too!!
Hope you get to 1M subs asap. I know that there are many shoujo fans who are just waiting for your videos to reach them.
omg I don't know if I could handle that much attention 😅 but I appreciate the sentiment!! thank you!!
I learned about "I want to hold Aono-kun" from Tatsuki Fujimoto's manga reading list and god it really is so good. Just so good at taking you by surprise with its tonal shifts. I've added multiple other series from this video to my to-read list since they're recommended by someone who likes this.
Congratulations! Your videos are great and you made me comeback to shoujos. By the way I've just finished Natsume's anime and started the manga and it's so beautiful. Truly a great story. Can't wait to read your other recommendations next
Wow you started and ended with of my favorite anime now I have to check all in between
congratulations!!! i really love your recomendations!
I teared up just seeing your passion for a series I've never even read. I loved that moment of authenticity.
A fantastic list, and now I have a number of series that I want to chck out now that I haven't before! Thank you for the great reccomendations!
Hi, Colleen! Congrats for the 15k! I'm a follower from Portugal and I like your video essays very much. Thank you for your top15, some of your favourites are also mine. Thanks to you I discovered Queens Quality and I'm loving it. I'd like to recomend Kono oto tomare by Amyu. It's so good, with such great characters, such great developed story, so sweet and real and raw, much like Chihayafuru. I think you would like it, I can't recomend it enough. Congrats again!
Thanks for doing what you do to keep the shoujo community happy!!!
CONGRATS!!! your channel is the best!!
congrats again. i’ll wait for the top josei list next 🤣👌🏻
Congrats on 15k! Hope you get a lot more! You're content is great!
PD: Son many of my fav mangas are and this list and that just makes me want to chek the ones i haven't read yet!
This was a very great video and great list! Congratulations on reaching 15k! Your videos are very good and wholesome! Love them how passionate they are whenever you upload a video!
Love your channel! Congrats on 15k! So cool to see some of my picks and old favourites on your list and ones you've introduced me too as well!
you are the first channel to really get me interested in manga and i’ve actually started collecting because of you!
I found your videos randomly about a week ago and I have watched almost all of them. Seeing you get so emotional and how excited you are to talk about Chihayafuru I decided to give it a try. And...I'm 15 chapters in and can already feel the potential of this series to ruin my life. Thank you for that. To celebrate, I've also subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work.
Update
I was right. Almost 100 chapters in and I almost cried on the bus seeing Taichi's match for Class A. That boy will be the death of me
Good list! I haven't read all of those but I have read most of them. Collete Needs to Die is sooooo sweet and fluffy. Curious about if you've read The Sacrificial Beast because that series gives me the same vibes. Basara is OG greatness.
I have a hard time making "top" list these days especially since there are many shorter series I really like that are lesser known. I would have to break it down by decade and genre within the genre lol.
I usually tend to divide my top manga lists by genre since there's so many romance, adventure, or comedy series I love it's hard to fit it all into one.
I really like Sacrificial Princess! I'm on volume 5 currently.
Loved this video so much! Congrats on 15K!!
Congrats on the 15k subs! I love your videos! 🤍
Congrats on the 15K!!! :D
Just recently found your channel and Im watching through all your videos atm, they are SO well made! You explain everything really detailed and you talk so fluently about all kinds of topics, almost as you did nothing else for the past few years ^^ I especially like this top 15 manga video of yours, as you explain every title in detail and I can really feel your love for every series. I almost started crying too at the end with Chihayafuru, you got me just so emotional when I saw how it impacted you. Never read or saw the series tbh, but I really wanna change that now ^o^ Aaaaand I cant stop thinking about "a condition called love" .... I really wanna read that one, your video was just lovely, it made me wanna read it too and follow their journey ^^ Loved your thoughts about Natsume too, fell in love with the anime and watched all 6 seasons in a month ^^° Really wanna buy the manga too and experience the magic in manga form, but it is so out of print and hard to get, its just sad :(
So, congrats again and Im looking forward to many more videos to brighten up my day :3
Your channel has been a joy to catch up with, I missed reading my old shoujo manga. A lot of your list is my couldn't-put-down-until-i-finish works, you have an amazing taste! And I've revisited Natsume's Book of Friends and Tsubasa Chronicles in the last 2 years, yep, still hold up really well even for adult me. For people looking to pick something up, I would like to recommend Demon Detective Nougami Neuro which I found to be similar to Ghost Hunt and Amatsuki for isekai enjoyers.
Wow I loved machida! It was so wholesome 😭 thank you for reminding me. I need to read again
Thank you so much for the manga recs 💗💗 Please do shoujo light novels next 🙏
You are the cutest bean ever so don't feel stupid for crying and being passionate about something - it's absolutely endearing. ♥ I really enjoyed this looong video and can proudly say: you made me look into several manga already and made me buy QQ Sweeper. (Unfortunately Germany never got a Queen's Quality release, I'll have to try and get the English version.) Your personality, dedication and the way you present manga and their storylines is what made me subscribe in the first place - 15k subscribers and you deserve every one of them! Lots of love from me to you. ♥
Congrats on 15k. I definitely need to check out all the manga you mention on your top.
Insane to me that not more people are crying about how good Chihayafuru is!
Great vid, love the enthusiasm and passion. Will probably check out a few of these series
