Interesting how microbrands have been offering sapphire crystals and fully milled bracelets as standard issue for years While Seiko still dishes out Hardlex and those tinny pressed clasps on throwaway bracelets.
Couldn't agree more
Developers' meeting: "Look, we have this pronounced honeycomb pattern on the dial, wondering what shape the indices should be." - "Hm… octagonal! Wait - and let each have its individual orientation."
Love bronze watches. Unlike gold or high polished SS pieces, you don't have to worry about keeping bronze looking immaculate - it's expected to look aged & worn.
Good specs for the money, yes. That said, when I see a watch like this I wish they’d spend just a bit more, charge a bit more, and use a nice Miyota 9015 instead of an 8000 series. But hey, if they wanna go value, then that’s cool. I get that this is Mainland-made “micro”, but the design language on the dial lacks cohesion. The beehive motif might work better on a field watch, but it looks out of place on a bronze case diver and it doesn’t play nice visually with the bezel (which looks pretty nice). The date wheel- as you pointed out- is an eyesore. Solid points for the case back engraving. Really like it. So again, def a good value for $160(!) bronze watch with a sapphire crystal. Like I said, charge us a bit more, fix the few problems it has, and give us a massive spec monster for say…$250. Fun review, Jory. Thanks for putting this brand on our radars.
I have the titanium black dial version. I’ve had it for a month now. I love it. I put it on the nylon strap that came with it. The miyota movement in mine isn’t loud at all.
Great review Jory. I purchased the titanium version for $139 and I'm very impressed!
Great review, love the watch
San Martin heimdallr seestern and steeldive have been putting out higher spec watches than seiko over the last 3 years
They may be chinese but when you can buy a dive watch with 200m water resistance sapphire crystal ceramic bezel with fantastic lume and a seiko automatic movement for less than £200 then it's a win win for the consumer
Seiko should hang there heads in shame
not bad, definitely good value, I just hate the honeycomb pattern and I hate that the honeycomb is hexagons but they went with octagons for indexes, party foul
Yeah, I was thinking that too 😅
Excellent. We need to figure out how to drill the case for easier strap changes! Good vid. Keep at it.
Nice watch!" Thanks for sharing. I will be considering this watch ...
I think the bigger story is it's a Chinese watch that isn't a complete rip-off of another watches design. The question will be is there quality consistently good or is it "hit or miss" like many other Chinese watches.
Wish they'd pick a better name.
@@oni-one574 absolutely, Boderry sounds like when a TV show wants to says Burberry but don't want get a CNA letter
@@oni-one574 ”beau derrière ” en chinois !
I think this is a good beginner watch for people I wish I knew more about micro brands when I started collecting
I LOVE IT! (In my Leslie Nielson voice!) Price just right and for me, I have no bronze in collection. It would be great to wear to my reunion affairs. I'm 70...so caveman reference 😂
Thank you Jory, you're awesome!!
That hour hand has a big scratch on it and the date window looks like it should have police crime scene tape over it.
Just like the black dress watch you reviewed, I like this one too. Thanks for doing some inexpensive watches too, and that are a good deal. Nice job
I prefer myota on the cheap movement segment, honestly in my experience they give a quality feeling that seiko basic movements lack. I like the watch but that strap doesn't make much sense in my opinion, also the buckle shuold have been at least bronze colored...
This is a $160 watch all day.
Seiko's brand equity has changed and their prices reflect that. Honestly if they still made the SKX people would complain that they havent done anything ground breaking or new. The Seiko 5 is a fine watch for the price and honestly, its not for people who are into watches its for some regular person who walks into department store and buys a nice watch for not much money.
I love bronze! Thirty years ago I bought a seiko quartz diver because it was a cool diver I could afford. This is the watch I would buy if I were 18 again.
Awesome and honest review, SUBSCRIBED!👍🏼👊🏼
Thanks for the review and what a great watch I don't have a bronze and this might be it.
The octagonal pips on a hexagonal background bothers me.
I picked one up. It satisfied my need for a bronze watch. It’s pretty accurate have not worn it in the field. I did notice the seconds hand will occasionally skip when I move it fast. Some research on the movement guess it’s common.
The hexagon markers lining up differently with the background is off putting
First thing I noticed, they are lined up every which way.
I like the textured finish
I do have one bronze watch, and I have found that the crown is a bear to unscrew if I haven't worn it in a few weeks. I always back the crown off a turn or so when I let it sit.
It's fun because the fans of horology liked microbrands since years. It has taken a long time for these channels to admit this watches have value (even though they are cheap homages/copies).
No play? That’s an improvement on panerai!
Definitely a straight up diver looks good, but doesn’t wow me (not sure why!) The aluminium bezel seems a little thin but maybe it’s just my phone 😂😂
Nice bezel design great watch overall
I'd have to get the sea turtle dial for sure.
Beautiful watch
Great video, as always. Thanks Jory. Seems to be a great deal. Love that it has sapphire and bronze. The painted black bezel ( or so I think it is painted) is a deal breaker for me. Looks like you have two small scratches between 45 and 50? I don't think it is dust or dirt. I get saddened when the paint scratches off a bezel. I don't feel that way with hardlex crystals for some reason. A little scratching adds character and love of a watch. 🤎👍
Oh no, I should't have seen that! I've just added to my cart! LOVE at first sight!
I like it!! Like the honeycomb!
Of my 6 divers this is the only one that has a bezel with bare handed usable action. The rest are way too tight with a poor grip design. Looking forward to slow natural color transition. :)
I recently bought a bronze Sea Turtle and within a week the crown pulled completely out of the watch. They sent me another one and the crown doesn't work properly on it either. They suggest that I don't know what I'm doing - actually, I do. I now have 2 pieces of junk in my drawer and I'm out CAD $240.
Great looking watch and very reasonable price. Again microbrands showing up the big boys!!
I just orderd the titanium one today 😀
This is super nice for the price!
Check out the Aquatico bronze offerings. NH35 movements but, sapphire, ceramic bezel, good lume, different hand options, decent QC on the one's I have seen.
The main cosmetic con that jumped out to me is that the applied hex indices aren't straight. Every one seem to be at a slightly different angle from the hex pattern on the watch dial.
A leather strap on a dive watch...... Make Total sense 😂😂😂
Just bought a sea blue titanium version two weeks ago. Haven't heard a thing from them since, but they use ceramic bezel inserts now and the sea blue version now houses the NH35A movt. I'm assuming they all will at some point. It also comes on a flororubber strap now. The bronze ones may still come on leather? I will buy a sailcloth strap for mine when it gets here. I also paid $160 for mine.
Kind of hate that it only has 100m. 200m would have made this an absolute no brainer at sub $200. The case size is perfect and it's still thin (because it has a Miyota).... but you can often pick up a Bronze Glycine Combat Sub 42mm for around the $300 mark if you are patient. The Glycine is a 200m swiss made watch with a SW200. The Glycine 42mm case also wears like a 40l on my 6.75 inch wrist due to the thin profile and curved lugs. The only downside is their bronze models has limited colors.
Very good specs, looks nice, the honeycomb pattern on the dial- not my personal taste.
Yup, wish they had just made it simple/plain...even sunburst is fine.
I'd recommend the San Martin Bronze 62Mas homage. It does have the Seiko NH35 but the double domed sapphire crystal with AR coating and drilled lugs with 120 click bezel and screw down crown and a well-made rubber strap bronze buckle and tang. I was completely blown away by the quality and most of all the natural patination of the watch and buckle is absolutely beautiful.
I bought one a month ago in titanium .. these are really cool 😎.. I couldn’t stand the thick straps ..
WTF this sounds like a fantasy for this price!! I always wanted a bronze watch, sapphire crystal & automatic movement! Cheapest is at least $1200
Nice looking watch. See they also have a titanium at same price point.
Is it my eyes or is that corrosion on the date window surround? Makes me question the quality control, but it does help explain the price.
Octagons and hexagons!?
"Bordered window at the 6 o'clock..." 😅 Sorry for pointing that out again, Jory! Cool review btw! 👍
I bought a titanium one like it from Amazon hopefully it will be a good watch ⌚.
The logo looks like a baby on a swing
This brand has the same watch with a titanium case even cheaper price and a more accurate finishing. You should check the brand :)
It's a handsome piece, well done overall. No clue where you see any Submariner inspiration in this thing, is it the fact it has 3 hands and a date wheel?
I guess it has a similar crown guard and case shape
Orient does that, too.
Hi. I have read in the reviwes of manufacturer´s official page that second hand stops frequently. Can you tell us somenthing about that?
Nice looking watch! Dial pattern is cool but the 8 octagonal indices, matching the dial and not lining up with dial pattern would drive me nuts! Rectangular matching the others would look alot better!
Cheers
Cheers
not sure if it's geometrically possible to have 12 octagonal markers aligned at the right places with the same size as the background pattern
Is it a sekio movement?
Threaded crown on bronze is actually a bad idea. Bronze is still a softer metal and that thread will basically wear out faster than steel so they should have settled for a push down crown. Since it's also bronze it's a bad idea to use it to dive due to corrosion accelerates with salt. Other than that it's a good looking watch.
Yeah, that's the whole point of my Bronze Tandorio (Kanagawa dial), to get the corrosion out of that bitch and I plan to never remove that corrosion layer out of it, I work in a drilling rig out in the Med sea BTW and wearing it every day, yay.
You killed it for me when you said 8215, should have put a NH35 in it and charge another $25 dollars
gone for the titanium version... Cheers
Smart 👍
100 m is a little too low for a diver , i got a mido chronograph with that range, and is not a diver, is more a field watch
Leather and water do not mix. 100 meters not ISO depth. Pretty but Boderry missed the mark. Servicing that movement might cost more than the watch did.
Pre interesting.
Interesting.
Are there marks on the timing bezel at the 50 minute mark? that's the sort of thing once you know its there your eyes would be drawn to it. Not a bad a watch at all but they need to put a bit effort into QC
They've got some decent watches on their site and bloody cheap, I'm looking for a catch somewhere.
@@AnthonyBurton Yeah, i looked into them somemore, the divers all use Miyota 8215 which is fine, sadly the skellies I really liked use Hangzhou 7570, lots of bad reviews of that movement which is a shame
You forgot to mention your favorite watch company Invicta . They have a bronze diver for $190. I know how fair you try to be. Seriously the Bodburry watch is attractive.
i wonder about dissimilar-metal corrosion in seawater between the bronze case and the steel case-back. And shouldn't the strap have a bronze buckle?
CuSn8 is a copper alloy reinforced with a solid solution (bronze) thtat this company use to make the watch case what about the other brands do they use the same alloy CuSn8??? Thank you for the answer???
Never heard of a diver with leather strap and less than 200m water resistances. If this is a diver my g-shock is submarine.
2:35 " date window at the 6:00 ?
Not sure how I feel about bronze being used for a "dive watch". Bronze patina/tarnish I don't think adds character in my opinon. Does bronze tarnish easily?
I ve seen sites that detail how to "restore" Bronze watches "over tarnishing" That's a Red Light for me!
The indices are not good aligned and there are smudges on the date window...
A sign of bad QC.
I like it
Jory is back on the space cabbage, comparing junk to seiko 😃
Don't be so harsh man, it's not like it was your mom. Yesh
@BigBeardedViper 😂
Nigga please.
So we are all just going to ignore the terrible quality control? The octagon indices all being slightly misaligned? The stainless steel hardware on the strap? There’s a reason it’s $160
I noted that too - the crap around the bottom of the date window, the mark on the hour hand
you should invest in good camera and audio equipment, your content is excellent.
At least is better than DW, MVMT or other fashion brands..
Dont like bronze. But love it sub $200. Thanks for review!
At that price any orient diver watch will be good enough for me, orient has given us great watches at a great price with very good quality features.
So can’t put a different band on?
10 seconds in and you slapped me with the specs. Love it
Title so right Jordy. Why cannot Seiko do it anymore?
So, the low value should work as a magnet, "for $160 hey it's a bargain...." Mass production leads (with the right push) to mass sales, aka mass profits. All these new watches popping up like mushrooms....does it ever end ?
So you can't change the strap at all ?!
Revolt Hex Mariner “homage”
I can't get past the indices that aren't all lined up.
You might want to try Bangalore Watch Company (from India) in the quest to find the best micro-brands from all corners of the globe :)
Bronze does nowt for me TBH, really don't see the appeal. But they do a titanium version for £20 less, that looks like the real bargain imho.
Cheers 👍🏻👍🏻
Its so handsome I need one!
The biggest con for me, is looking like a diver with only 100M WR.
With crime going nuts I’ve been getting more into nice watches under $300. Look great and if anything happens who cares.
You're right, Seiko wouldnt make a Rolex knockoff. And lol @ "dive watch" at 100m.
With hexagonal markers and a much better dial than a rolex I'd say your comment is a far cry from the truth
It really isn't a Rolex knockoff or homage. The hands are different, the dial is different. It is only a Rolex homage if you think anything that is a dive watch is a Rolex homage. Also the diver spec only requires 100m. I doubt your ass is going down that far. I'm sure you will not ruin it at your desk Mr. Cousteau.
Which Rolex has a bronze case, honeycomb dial, and hands that aren't "Mercedes"? I can't think of any....
The ISO standard is 100m...
@@Furniture121 many watches from Cartier, Seiko, Casio, Apple, and many cheap watches have 100m of water resistance.
Ok, I'm sorry, but it has to be said. The combination of a hexagonal dial design and octagonal applied indices can only be described as the work of a psychopath.
Even if a Miyota 8000 series with 100m water resistance could be described as a "spec monster" the design language would drive me absolutely crazy.
In the immortal words of Mona Lisa Sapperstein, "hard pass."
