A Beautiful Concert in Die Frauenkirche. There may be many who do not know the history of Die Frauenkirche. It was destroyed in a Bombing Raid on February 13,1945 but was rebuilt between 1994 and 2005. This English viewer loved most of this concert. However I did not like Diana Damrau's 'manic' rendition of - 'Awake, rejoice, o daughter of Zion'. Moreover this is the first time I have ever heard this 'aria' sung in German. (Handel was German born, but the libretto of'Messiah' is in English.)
Three years ago at the Frauenkirche Advent Concert the Swiss soprano Regula Muhlemann gave an absolutely superlative performance of 'Rejoice O daughter of Zion'. And she sung the 'aria' from memory in perfect English. (That 2019 performance is on Regula Muhlemann's youtube channel.)
Being an ex-professional classical singer myself, based in London, I found Damrau´s rendition excellent. It is rare to find a soprano who can sings those runs as cleanly as she does, and certainly not at that fast tempo. In my view, you should not throw stones whilst sitting in a glass house. I have yet to hear Haydn´s "Die Schöpfung" sung in German in the UK, although I have sung the bass solos many times in England.
Mozart translated The Messiah into German and also rearranged it. You can hear the difference in the instrumentation. It’s worth a listen for a different experience than we’re used to.

The girl’s choir at the beginning was fabulous!! Their sound was so beautifully uniform and crystalline, really amazing, and one of the best “children’s choir” sound I’ve ever heard! But then-for me-the mood was completely broken by the “announcer” with the microphone, as though a concert dedicated to the advent of Christ was “Dancing With the Stars,” or something….why, why, WHY?!? It’s an Americanization that nobody needs (I’m an American, btw)!!! I hope that next year, this format isn’t used, bc it’s unnecessary and totally breaks the mood.
Nobody needs to say anything, no applause between the pieces, no “announcer,” just one piece after another. I was so annoyed with this format that I stopped watching after Diana Damrau’s beautiful-but entirely MANIC-performance of “Rejoice Greatly” from Handel’s “Messiah,” auf Deutsch except for “O daughter of Zion”….another complete oddity!
I absolutely agree with your remarks. I felt that they were broadcasting Eurovision song contest. The choir most amazing, it should be kept to the end as the best piece. Messiah sound's odd in German for me- and I am not even English😂 a very Merry Christmas to you and all reading this comment🎄

@@horsthansen5305 The original libretto to Messiah is in English, and that is why we expect to hear arias from it sung in English, especially if we have a top class singer singer such as Damrau. Contrast the performance of Damrau at this 2022 Frauenkirche Advent Concert with the performance of Swiss soprano Regula Muhlemann at the 2019 Advent Concert. (It is on Regula Muhlemann's youtube channel). Regula's 2019 brilliant performance is in PERFECT English, and she sang from memory. (I am English.)

I was a little disappointed, I did not enjoy it as much as previous years. I would liked to seen more Religious German works. of a traditional nature. (Und ja, ich verstehe Deutsch). I appreciate that many did enjoy it from the comments and will not agree.

Ik heb de Wiederaufbau van de Frauwenkirche elf jaar stuk bij stuk zijn herrijzen uit zijn puin. Heb wel, zonder het negatief te bedoelen meer wordt gebruikt als concertzaal dan als kerk.

A l'opposé ce spectacle, Le Kyiv Chamber Orchestra vient de donner Battalia de Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber et la tristesse témoignée par ces excellents musiciens m'a fait sentir l'horreur de cette guerre dont il faut souhaiter la fin au plus tôt. Noël pour un chrétien, sera triste cette année

Die Dirigentin is zierlich und zart, sie schafft gewiss Wunder in Mozart mit einem kleineren Orchester. Hier fehlt es an Energie und Schwung, es wirkt flach und träge. Schade. Das hat mit dem Gechlecht nichts zu tun, sondern mit der Persönlichkeit.

Ребята. Этот концерт меня очень сильно разочаровал своей непрходимой, чудовищной пошлостью😮.
К сожалению в этом видео наряду с серьезной , очень много слащавой, откровенно пошлой, простенькой музыки, которую можно считать таковой лишь с очень большой натяжкой, не дающей ничего важного и полезного ни уму ни сердцу взыскательного слушателя. Подобная музыка способна прославить имя недокомпозитора сочиняющего ее, лишь среди людей, имеющих совершенно примитивный, не взыскательный музыкальный вкус. Лично для меня прослушивание подобной слащавенькой хр...ни является невыносимой пыткой😮.
