So. I'm a music education major and direct an a cappella group. This is an incredible performance by my standards, and I don't use incredible lightly. Dynamic contrast is fantastic, and your crescendos and diminuendos are extremely well synced. Not to mention your matching vowels, timbre, expression, and balance.
Very well done.
In other words, what every Top 20 International caliber barbershop quartet, of either gender, does (and what those who haven't made it to the International contest stage strive for).
Not only that, but the resonance in their vibrato when they hit it on point is something magical

Barbershop is known for long sustained notes. Some can hold notes for 40 seconds or longer.

you are the only one who nailed it; just try holding a note for 15 seconds like that; these girls are goosebumps baby
if you got a proper technic, you can handle it easily, there is a singing exercise precisely for doing that, for managing the air in your belly so you can sing long standing notes in a long period of time. you first exercise for sustaining 10 seconds., then 20 seconds and so on.

It's astonishing how good their tone quality is.
The girl in the grey shirt held that high note at the very end for FIFTEEN SECONDS. Yes, I actually took the time to count, because that is SUPER impressive. I've been watching this video like three times a day ever since I saw it, this performance is literally perfect.
There are quartet champs who can post in excess of 30 seconds (Tony DeRosa, Tim Waurick, others). Tim has been known to post 50-ish seconds on occasion. Look up some Vocal Spectrum videos. Long posts on a tag are common in the barbershop world.

Too many amazing moments to comment on! (but I'll try.) Ali is sublime on lead the whole time (example around 1:13), the swipe everyone does on the word "fine" at 1:34 is magic, Katie Mac kicks things to the next level around 2:33, Katie G makes baritones everywhere proud at around 3:00, and Amanda's tenor post in the tag is perfect (and that's because she really knows how to sing higher than the other parts without overpowering the harmonics (a rare skill in women's barbershop). GQ is incredible. Period.
From 2:30-2:36...wish there could be a view counter for that segment, because I just watched it 1.8million times.

That's called a tag and she does it awesomely. My wife and her family got me into barbershop. It is terrific.
Check around in your area and see if there are any Sweet Adelines choruses close by. That's where groups like this start out. Choruses usually range in membership from a few dozen to a hundred or more. Members within a chorus usually form the quartets like this.
They always really come to life when they reach that bit, in other videos too 😍

@@doughelms558 they are still the same 4, sometimes not all of them can make it to events, so they ask other Barbershop singers to sing with them, but when they compete, they are still always these 4 😊

(It all started when their original video came up today on my fb Memories page and I had to repost it.. And from there felt compelled to keep listening. They harmonize so beautifully, I"m glad to hear they still sing together.)

Fabulous! I used to sing barbershop and am a sucker for a good 4-part harmony decades later. These young ladies are very talented. I hope they go for it and get the recognition they deserve.

But in the meantime, please consider (if you haven't already) going to Children's Hospitals, Nursing Homes and anywhere where people need some hope, cheering, entertainment. You are just the sweetest, most lovely quartet of young women I've seen in ages. Please ignore the negative comments. Some people just can't help themselves, let it roll off your back. I've listened to these young women sing several times. I come back and listen every now and then to remind me of just how talented and powerful women can be with their voices. Shame on the envious non-talented morons who comment on anything but how inspiring and exciting these sweet ladies are.

It made me sooo happy watching/listening to this, such a great example of a truly talented and amazingly well blended quartet. The dynamics were honestly some of the best I've ever heard. When I was a Junior and Senior in High School I was the Bass in a barbershop quartet called "three men and a tenor". We were pretty good and won 1st place in the music competition (all genres) at the Tulare County Fair in Central CA. However, I can honestly say these women would have smoked us!!!!!! And I think it's great that there are people out there within our younger generation keeping alive such a beautiful part of American Music History. I've also never had the opportunity to hear a womens barbershop quartet before though I have heard they're out there. So the fact the very first one I ever heard literally smoked 99% of all men's quartets I've heard is phenomenal!!
I've had a google account for about a year but this is the first post I've ever written, take it as a big compliment ladies. Job well done. I hope you all are still sharing your musical talent with the world. The way you four blend is like nothing I've ever heard. All four of you have a great gift, I hope you keep using it.
