It's known as a Limnic Eruption, and it's basically when you open a soda can and pressurized co2 gets released, but only a million times larger. The lake mentioned in the video resided on top of an active volcanic field, in which vast quantities of magma generated an immense amount of carbon dioxide. Eventually, enough pressure builds under the lake, causing an explosion that releases a lethal cloud that smothers everything that it envelops.
1746 people lost their lives in total, not just 1200. 3500 livestock died. The lake he mentions in the video is Lake Nyos, in Cameroon. Of all the natural disasters, this is the most terrifying one. It almost seems supernatural. A cloud emerges from the lake and envelopa a town and then everyone is found lifeless but with no wounds. Makes me think of the miasma from the anime, inuyasha
As a geologist, since CO2 is heavier than air, it's impossible for that cloud to emerge from the lake. The CO2 used to be trapped in the bottom of the lake. What actually had triggered it was a collapsed cliff, since the lake is surrounded by hills.
C02 was accumulating in underground springs which was why this happened. During this time, the lake where the cloud formed, was 4ft shorter than it usually was.
@@TrademarkedIPAdress so essentially C02, over a period of time, was being built up underneath the lake where this event occurred at. C02 is good for plants but not so much dirt and sand which is usually at the bottom of lakes. It deteriorates sand and dirt similarly to the way flowing water deteriorates rocks. C02 is a gas and because it was under a lake, it built pressurized pockets which eventually grew big enough to the point where they became springs which ended up shooting out of the lake. That would explain why the water level was 4 feet lower when this happened, being that the pressure in the lake was relieved. C02 is much heavier than oxygen which is why a thick unbreathable cloud formed. It’s scary to think that the villagers actually heard rumbling and smelled the gases being shot out before eventually being overtaken by the cloud. It ended up hitting another village after killing 500 people as well. The lake, to this day, has to be constantly monitored to prevent something like this from happening again. I hope that helps
It was caused by a limnic eruption from the bottom of lake Nyos in Cameroon. Which is caused by thermal vents under the lake where carbon dioxide builds pressure until it erupts. There was nothing mysterious nor unexplained about this event. As a matter of fact the only fact he got right in the whole video is that carbon dioxide is heavier than air.
I remember when this happened. I think it was an extinct volcano crater scientists refer to as a caldera that through the centuries filled up with rain water and became a lake. It was in the nation of Cameroon, in Africa. Vents or fissures opened up underwater under tons of pressure and it just belched out noxious gases from under the earth then drifted toward neighboring villages. Dead people and livestock were everywhere and they had to rush to bury the bodies and cremate the animals as they began to rapidly decompose in the hot weather. It was tragic!
This happens in 1986 .This lake is called Lake Nyos in south west Cameroon. People and animals in this village in bamenda were killed because of nature gas that explores from the lake. Not cloud. Google lake Nyos disaster in north west Cameroon. The whole story is there.

Video: Talking about the horror of the cloud killing living beings Song: *A L P H A B E T L O R E* Edit: DO NOT GO IN THE REPLIES WW3 IS GOING ON THERE1!1!1!
They actually know, where’s that cloud came. In the lake there was a different layers of water with different density. The leyers mixed up and bubbles were created and bubbles were carbon dioxide.
Yes, It descended ONLY because it was heavier than the air that surrounded it (just like a ball you toss into the air it always falls back down) not because of a “force” (that is supposedly super strong, the strongest force known to man, yet NOBODY can feel it or has ever felt it before) called gravity.
I actually did a research paper on this event, it’s pretty rare event and is only found within 2 lakes, Lake Nyos and Lake Monoun. The science states both lakes have CO2 pockets beneath the lakes themselves and the slightest magnitude event can disrupt this pocket, which is why the lake produces a cloud of CO2 gas. The lakes specifically are above a volcanic fault which is why CO2 is found below the lake. I won’t state to much, but this is the general idea of how the lake kills people with CO2 gas and a classified as “Killer Lakes”.
😢 OMG how very sad ! A cloud could kill so many people n animals. I have never seen anything on BBC News around the world ..news like we normally see it's Sooo sad nothing was done sooner ! All the way back to safari we were staying the German guy kept saying in broken English black ash it was not safe ! Er how does he Kno?😮. The same as this cloud which scientists say came from the lake after the eruption of the volcano under the lake - clouds form from the sky don't they not lakes? ???? .
That is possible, but how is it that that cloud which wasn't that big apparently, I'm saying it wasn't miles wide, fell on the ground exactly where a village was located, instead of an empty area or forest area etc..isn't this a bit strange to say the least !?
There is an an areanbij Kenya where Carbacid is mined, there is a very thick fog in the area, at times when it is very thick birds die. When Ngorongorobwas erupting in Tanzania Kenya border there was a day everyone woke up late with a slight headache.

Nah that's not random cloud, that's *Silver Chariot's Requiem*
They actually know, where’s that cloud came. In the lake there was a different layers of water with different density. The leyers mixed up and bubbles were created and bubbles were carbon dioxide.

Me after watching NOPE and seeing this cloud descend:👁👄👁
My reaction: 👀👄👀
Just to be clear though, the cloud is fake. That happened in 1986, before drones and such, and at night.
NOPE was 🚮🗑
It wasn't a cloud. It was poisonous acidic gas emitted from the lake and the people inhaled it in their sleep. Happened in my country Cameroon

This cloud is the definition of The movie Nope
Yes, It descended ONLY because it was heavier than the air that surrounded it (just like a ball you toss into the air it always falls back down) not because of a “force” (that is supposedly super strong, the strongest force known to man, yet NOBODY can feel it or has ever felt it before) called gravity.

@@Kpracn0va cuz it is
I thought it was even triggered by Chernobyl, i'm so dumb 🤦♂️😭
How many people died of this cloud , lake are there more lakes like this around Africa? We went to Kenya 2008 we saw dormant volcanos.. black ash everywhere when the driver tour guide n tour guide were asked questions how safe was black ash both didn't comment said something Swahili n laughed a German couple asked tour quide to tell driver to stop n turn round.. which the driver did again laughed little did they kno- the German guy new what they said something to with black ash from volcano.
"The darn trees didn't do there job"
