After editing this video, I realised that they're ALL reprising their characters from "My Mother Told Me" (the facial makeup/tattoos are the same)!!! I don't know why I didn't notice it before! 🤯🤯🤯

Did you notice Geoff holding the B0 for 15 (!!) seconds right before his first solo part? 🤯🤯
Geoff also has them on his forearm holding his ale. During the behind-the-scenes for another video someone noticed that Eli had runes also but I can’t remember what they said.

In the first part where J is holding "me". Geoff comes in on a B0. If you listen carefully, he does go up in pitch, back down to the B, and back up again at the very end before his solo, but that phrase, as people have pointed out, is FIFTEEN SECONDS.
During the second half of the rap, after Eli's "this is war", he sustains another B0 for ten seconds . 🤯
Holding a BO for 10 seconds is just insane! There can't be more people in the world than you can count on your fingers that can do it!
@@erikaskeroth9720 there's probably not even one hand worth tbh. Geoff and Marwan are the only ones I know of that have hit a B0 subharmonic.
@@erikaskeroth9720 I use chest fry to hit B0 and can't do subharmonics well, but down there we don't use all that much air. The trouble with sustaining the low notes, at least for an incompetent amateur like me, is making sure the flow rate doesn't change and cause pitch drift.
I've been trying to sing with this song almost constantly for the last two days while walking and always have to stop moving to hold the B.
@@xommg It must be extremely hard eaven with fry to hit the low notes and be on pitch for just a couple of seconds. I am a tenor, and can't understand how you manage to hit such a low note. It must almost hurt 😅 The only thing I can say is to keep practicing and taking care of your voice. And hope you succeed one day!
What is the lowest note you are comfortable singing, just wondering?
@@erikaskeroth9720 I'm a poor singer, so hitting a low note is not much of a brag. I know some folks don't like to refer to the bottom of the piano as singing, because it's usually limited to phonating a few good vowels with little articulation. I can make noise a little bit below A0, but I think B0/C1 is my "clean" floor and below that is too froggy to be musically useful. I regard my "singing" bottom to be around D#1 or E1.
I don't always appreciate my lower voice because higher baritone and tenor voices cut through noise much better and I can barely hear myself sing when outside. In a quiet room with good acoustics a low note can sound pretty sweet, but it's much harder when outside with urban noise pollution.

You are right about Eli doing the backgrounds in Unreal Engines. But this time they didn’t shoot green screen. They were in a VR studio, in front of a giant LCD screen.
In spite of some setbacks (J’s plane arriving 3 hours late and the studio air conditioning going out) I think they got wonderful results!
I didn’t know it was a giant LCD screen, that’s cool! 😮
After several viewings, I kept on Cesar for on view because he really added grit and crazy to his part. It was WILD.
It’s a side of him I don’t think we’ve heard before! 🤩
@@ZhenYaoYin There are hints, though. Geoff says it's Cesar's commitment to each character. He was such an imp in the Hall of the Mountain King video. But usually he's the quiet guy doing backup vocals. Nice to see him shine.
It's brilliant when Geoff sings "the echoes of eternity" after the rap.
I love that they have J returning home in this. He’s been away and now he’s coming back where he belongs.

Among their tattoos are runes spelling out VoicePlay. Cesar’s is on his face, Geoff has one on his forearm and there’s too much going on for me to figure out where everybody else has one.
Layne did the arrangement and Eli the amazing backgrounds. It was filmed, not green screen, but at a studio with immense (Full wall!) led screens.
In My Mother Told Me Eli was a beserker. He obviously has recruited the whole group now. Even Cesar was scary. A lot of the costuming is from MMTM.
The music in the outro is the karaoke track. The background vocals and it could be a piece on its own because it’s also gorgeous.

This arrangement left me with my mouth open! Eli and his "rock voice" and on high notes!. Layne singing! Geoff's notes, the strength in César's voice, and JNone's rap!
J.NONE’s rap was the one that totally took us by surprise 😍
It is like they got together in the back of a bar or somewhere and said, "We can start off with a chant, move it up to a type of hard ballad, then Elli can let loose his inner rock god, and what the heck, let's throw in some rap! We have everything else in there, why not? Hey, Geoff, the people want subharmonics? Let's give it to them! BOO-YA!"

Everyone was epically great in this one. Layne with insane vo-perc, warrior Cesar, Eli worshipping a dark god, Geoff being the dark god, and J with those bars. Wow. Goeff hit B0 THREE times and that high part Eli did was amazing. I could go on forever about this one.

Acappella singing Vikings with rock and rap - how does that even work? 🤨 I've no idea, but it does!! 👌
Cesar was so fierce in this he scared me! 😳 Eli and Cesar bring their inner rock gods out to play and even Layne adding a little bit of rock rasp to his vocals. Add to that, insane beatboxing and rapping and Geoff, well, Geoffing.... rumbling and rocking in the basement. Oh I was a very happy bunny when I heard the short heralding the release of this as I love the song anyway. They didn't disappoint - EPIC version!
As an aside, the originator of the song has commented on the VP video that it's the most creative version he's heard of it - and awarded them "10 raised alehorns out of 10" 😆

Did anyone else notice that Caesar flips his hood up right before J drops his bars and then lowers it afterwards?... It's subtle but I see what they did there. lol

The runes on Cesar's face and Geoff's are say VoicePlay. The rune on J's face and Eli's arm is the Norse rune for music, tónlist. This was not shot on green screen with an Unreal Engine background, but rather in a volume studio (like the one used for The Mandalorian) with a 155 ft wide, 26 foot tall LED screen, which allows for the movement in the background. Several costume pieces from My Mother Told Me were repurposed. For example, Cesar is wearing the robe José used.

Like a lot of Voiceplay's covers, I never heard it, never really heard of it. Didn't matter. Voiceplay can do anything and do it brilliantly. If you listen to the music play over the patron lists, it's the karaoke track they put out. No melody so you can better hear some of the harmony that they were singing.

As a Norwegian myself, and have read a bit about Vikings, it's somewhat romanticised. Although the biggest baddest warriors went out to plunder, they where also very good buisness people. Trading instead of stealing. Lol... All that aside, they had a belive: Go into combat, give everything. Even your life. If you die, Odin will greet you in Valhalla. And you will feast as never before, and never die again. There is a lot more to it, but short, not totally accurate summary 😂

I’ve always been fascinated with Vikings because Scandinavian heritage on both sides, but the more you read about them the more you think it wasn’t such a great life. They died REALLY young, in part because their diets sucked, but also because just about everything about their lives was so hard. The good news is they actually bathed. Not that common in European cultures. LOL.
I’m not sure what original you’re thinking of-maybe it’s different in the game? Because Gavin Dunne, the son’s creator (@MiracleofSound)has a version on CZcams with Peyton Parrish, and it’s DEFINITELY rock. Check it out-very different from this but also genius!

@@nightthornkvala94132 Hollaway is what they call an oktavist. Another guy with a ridiculously low chest voice is Elliott Robinson-he hits a D1 IN CHEST in The Bass Gang’s Mad World! He did an interview with Qofy and talked about how he doesn’t use subs or other extended techniques. He has reasons but basically he doesn’t need them.
