- The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a delicious treat for Ace Attorney fans who've been waiting for these games to release in the West for years. Given its nature as prequel spinoff set over a century before the first game though, it's also a great entry point for newcomers to the series.
In total, I spent over 60 hours on the duology, and I had a wonderful time from beginning to end. It's been a long wait, but The Great Ace Attorney is absolutely worth all those years of anticipation. - Hry
Buying it day one, if only so Capcom realises we want all the Ace Attorney games ported to Switch.
“Fran-size”
I just finished both games plus I admire the work capcom put into making it localization included
My favorite part is resolve
Finished both today. What a journey. My emotions are all over the place.
Thank you for reviewing this.
How exactly is Susato a “beautiful mess of a person”? Who wrote this script???
Was the voiceover guy drunk during this? Or just very unwell or something? Poor guy
Just finished the first case, I used a walk through as I've never played before, but plan to try to do other cases without the guide
That being said, I'm loving it so far
Awesome!
Lets gooo objective man
Great to play a new Ace Attorney game (didn’t play the Japanese version) and I’ve played them all - incl AAI2 - and the first GAA was probably my least favourite game in the season. I felt like it really dropped the investigation aspects of AA and felt too much like it was “holding back”. It took until case 5 of game 1 for me to feel fully invested in what was going on

Great review but oof some of these mispronouncations are rough
I liked the tone of this review. Thanks. well-written and no worse by being helpfully info-dense. I just finished the trilogy today & wonder how much I'll miss the simple 2d animations from those earlier games. Did anyone that's played it feel like the new cast of characters is a step down from the usual bunch?
They can’t replace the original cast but the new cast is still amazing in their own I loved almost every new character
Personally ended up loving them more than the original cast by the time I was done with the games
only partway through the first game, but of the characters ive met so far, i would say they are on par for the most part. A good blend of both familiar and new traits for characters of similar roles. An early example is the Japanese replacement for gumshoe. He is just as helpful as gumshoe, with some fun quirks of his own to separate the two, but unlike gumshoe, who takes a lot of effort to convince that you are on the same side, his replacement is overly enthusiastic to help once you prove your worth initially. Vague for the sake of spoilers, but i have yet to be disappointed.
The first 3 were the best
tanx 4 the rev
Did he say he spent 60 hours on it or 16 hours?
60
Absolutely 60, don’t worry :)
did i hear 'fransize'?
And “resolves around” instead of “revolves around”
ao maybe put a release date in the description or something
It realeases July 27th., chap. At least here in the US.
Hoping for a proper translation mod for this game. Because the fan translation was what made the game more genuine compare to the watered down narrative
It wasn't watered down tho
This was one of the best
?? What are you on about the localization team did an amazing job lmao
I think he’s talking about the censorship of racial slurs. The fan translation had more of a shock factor with all the slurs added in
I played the last two cases in the official release and honestly it was great! I’d say the old-style English did make it difficult to understand what was being said at times though.
Nice

Feels so weird to think this exists.
I still wanna know how they got this approved for an overseas release cuz from my understanding Sherlock Holmes existence should have made that impossible. Even with this Herlock Sholmes bullshit.
Well actually, the Herlock Sholmes made this entirely possible! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's estate is extremely protective of Sherlock Holmes, hence why The Great Ace Attorney could not be localized for several years. However much like how Maurice Leblanc, creator of Arsène Lupin, wanted to use Sherlock Holmes in a story but could not because of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the localization team followed in his footsteps; Sherlock became Herlock.
Wish they didn’t name the detective Herlock Sholmes. If they couldn’t get the rights for Sherlock the could of just kept the character design and gave him a different name and we still would of understood. The swapping of the first letter is just terrible.
To be fair, 'Herlock Sholmes' is a name from Holmes History. The guy who wrote Arsene Lupin wanted Holmes in his story, but Arthur Conan Doyle said no. So, he renamed it to Herlock Sholmes
and upon playing the game, it is clear that changing sherlock holmes into a unique character would undermine his role in the story. The game integrates sherlock holmes lore into the game in such a way that it would be hard to get the same effect from any heavier form of censorship. It is SUPPOSED to be a not-so-subtle reference. Going any further dilutes the reference in such a way that only the most well versed homes fans would be able to pick up on it.
Too many spoilers for my taste, no need to tell exact numbers of cases, etc., making the game too prefictible. Hate playing a game knowing when it exactly ends.
5 cases per game is standard for the franchise nowadays, not sure how that's a spoiler in any way. The footage does have some spoilery parts, I'll admit.
Have you never played a single Ace Attorney game or something? Each of them have always had 5 cases in total excluding DLC. Use your brain please.
ignoring the precedent that the other replies are pointing out, there is another reason that the number of cases isnt a spoiler: the game itself. Upon first booting up the game, you have the choice to tackle the cases in any order. Avoiding the "spoiler" at that point is all but impossible.
Even if it was a spoiler, there would be more people upset with the lack of disclosure than those who dislike it disclosed. The number of cases tells buyers exactly what they are getting. Hours are one thing, but 60 hours for a single case is an entirely different story than 60 hours for 10 cases. A single case would likely grow stale long before the 60 hour mark considering the game mechanics and narrative core. Yes, that is an extreme case, but it should highlight the point clearly. Experience with the franchise can result in certain expectations based off the number of cases alone. Too many and fans would be concerned of lower quality cases. Too few and the problem of overstaying their welcome becomes an issue for those with faith, and for those without becomes a warning sign of being too short for the price tag. Only with both hours and number of cases can the game quality become clear without playing it for yourself, and even then, it is still working off a certain range.
