You can tell Dennaton was really going for something different when they designed beard's levels. They knew they were hard and different, and they wanted to give you some motivation to not give up.
You're right! The map design really fits the more 'military game' theme beard has. The placement of enemies feel more like strategic guard posts. The soundtrack also feels less crazy frantic drug trips like all the other characters have.
And this sonw fucking worked
Also most of his themes have a lighter tone, given the Beard doesn't enjoy guns and violence.
I drive down Miami with this song playing, mostly at night because I work late shift, lemme tell you how you captured perfectly a Miami vibe in a song

I dont have thick skin at all. Ive been bullied all my life, and it actually pisses me off, its not even normal to have thick skin, yoy allowed to cry, even boys. Not good to keep it in.

I listen to this song on hot, Summer days. The constant pushing of the synth in the background, the drowsy lead, and the drums make me feel like the sun just keeps pushing down on me, but I've gotta keep moving in order to finish my work for the day.

This dude got to make THE theme song for this series and he made damn well sure it was the best possible theme song.
One of my favorite details is how there's that little riff playing through most the song that evokes the feeling of a phone being dialed.

Been bumpin this song a ton lately, in the middle of the trenches of 7 day work weeks and midnights. Hearing this and smoking a joint or a cigarette after work resets my head for the day. Really feels like "ya know what we're in the shit but we're gonna make it and if not we're gonna die doin somethin and that's better than nothing at all". Gives me hope.

man i love this song!! Probably it wasn't conceived for that "Stronghold" level originally, but damn it fits so well in that level! You can feel the hawaiian sun burning you head, you can see the luxurious tourist resorts reduced to military camps and bloody battlegrounds... the jungle... the beaches... the heat... the sound of the machete hitting the flesh... the whistle of the bullets...

stronghold is beard's penultimate level. you can already hear the music being more tiring, as the ghost wolves are capturing a stronghold, and they're gonna go home soon.

How does this guy create such masterpieces?
First started listening to this masterpiece in 2020, 4 years ago already. I was going about my final year in school and suddenly came to a screeching holt when lockdown was announced. My future was uncertain and I was unsure of who I was, and what I was going to do with my life. I started to go for long walks and (very briefly) went for morning runs, just around my village to keep me active during the first lockdown. I remember walking around and staring across the fields, with this blasting through my ears in my AirPods. Still listen to it frequently now! One of my all time favourite songs. Thank you Benny, truly an amazing track for me and so many others.
You made one of the best musics of Hotline Miami, good job! More developers should hire you to make music for their games because this one's badass.

This and Dust are probably my favorite tracks in the game. To me this feels like a cheerful sunrise preparing me for the day ahead while Dust is a calm sunset when everyone settles down and relaxes.
