  • I am so excited to share part one of my craft closet transformation. This started out as a project to create a new workspace in my craft room and evolved into a full-on big change! I’ll be sharing an in-depth look at the closet once it is organized and styled just a bit more. The products I used are below, none of them are affiliate links, just stores I was able to get to during this quarantine!

    I gave up on wallpaper years ago. Color and stencils or word art is my thing! Your dog is a real trooper. Construction doesn't bother her! The build-out space is lovely. Love that butcher block. No curtain necessary.

    I absolutely love your closet make-over, and I love your wallpaper! It is so cheery and colorful, just the space a happy crafter should work. You have inspired me immensely, and I thank you. I have an ample closet space to make-over, and I plan on removing the closet doors. I am a person that needs to see it in order to use it! Looking forward to part 2.

  • @preciousmemoryboxesjunkjou3642

    I like it as is, I think a curtain would get in your way. Love how you added the two shelves on the side for your cutting machines.

    I think it looks FANTASTIC as it is now. I think a curtain would get in your way every time you need something under there you’re going to have to pull it up out of the way(especially trying to get the cart out). I think the clean lines look great! God Bless & the Love of Christ to you all!!

    Had a curtain for a similar space. Took it down. Always in the way. Your space is clean and neat. I’ve decided the little curtains are to cover up a toss and throw space that you want no one to see. You don’t have that. Looks good as it is

  • @andrealavigne7824

    I think the area under your countertop looks plenty neat as it is. If you were to put a curtain there, you'd have the hassle of having to move it aside or flip it up over the countertop every time you needed to access anything from that area. Plus, if the curtain had a casing, rather than using curtain rings to go on the rod, that would only increase the hassle. So, leave the curtain off. :) I like the wallpaper you used. It sounded like the old Contact paper, with the peel-&-stick property. I was curious if the weight is more wallpaper-y than thin plastic/vinyl like Contact paper. I've only ever worked with Contact & real wallpaper (pre-pasted kind). Neither was easy for hanging on walls, so I can relate to y'all's pain! LOL I think your closet space is looking really great overall! Well worth the hassle. :) I'd be interested to learn about the under-shelf lighting, just out of curiosity. Also, do you have more storage, or is it just more rearranged? Anyway, I look forward to your Part 2. Thanks for sharing, take care, & have an awesome day! :)

    • @ScrappyWife
      @ScrappyWife  Před 4 lety +1

      It's definitely more substantial than typical contact paper, and has a little stretch to it. Although, if you stretch too much, it shrinks back and you are left with gaps.

    Another comment: I am a visual person, so if I see all my supplies, neatly organized and labeled, it gives me creativity and options. That's why when I re-do my craft room closet, I will remove the two doors. Thank you for your inspiring video!

  • @joyceeberner
    @joyceeberner Před 4 lety +1

    It’s a craft room... leave it open! Regarding wall paper.. Always draw a plumb line near a corner; then start your paper (to left or right of corner) working out. Meaning the bend around corner is only about 1”. This also helps in easier matching as well as keeping paper straight.

    Great job on your closet makeover. Tfs❣ The wallpaper was a nice surprise. I thought it may be too busy but it turned out nicely. I would hang the curtain to cover the bins just for visual decluttering😁 I like to enter a clean/organized space before I get creative. I'm ok making the mess as we know WILL happen! 🤣 but I like starting out feeling organized. IF however the curtain would keep you from using your supplies (out of sight out of mind) dont hang one....so personal preference. It will be interesting to see what you choose. Personally I'm evolving on this😁 Trying to strike a balance with visual clutter and knowing it is part of the creative journey. I want to use my stuff. In order to remember some of it I have to see it so I have to make it pretty🤗🧘‍♀️💞

    Wow! Your “before” or what you call “messy” looks a thousand times better than my room!! Love your little closet. That countertop butcher block is pretty nice! As far as curtain, who else sees the room? Does it double as a guest room? If so, just apply curtain when guests visit, otherwise you will probably get tired of having to move it out of the way every time you craft.just sayin. New subbie here Michigan ❤️🦋💜

    I love the way it looks without the curtain, I think that without the curtain it looks much more like a part of the room... I think that the curtain would probably separate the area and I think that it might get in your way but that is just my opinion. I do think that maybe you can pick a light color from your beautiful wall paper and paint the rest of your craft room to make it look more cohesive or add some of your beautiful wallpaper to another wall? Lol sorry you just asked about the curtain but you’re the creative one so I’m sure that you will end up with a very beautiful craft room. Thank you so much for teaching me so much about everything crafty! 😊

    Ignore my huxband's picture, he has no opinion on this (lol). I would consider putting the curtain on a tension rod and then you could easy move it completely out for a good root around or put it up for a more finished look. It might also help keep dust out of things. Love your new area. I wouldn't have even have attempted the wallpaper as I am sticky paper challenged. That is a real thing, I swear.

  • @melaniemccarter4595
    @melaniemccarter4595 Před 4 lety

    Ditto on all the "no curtain" comments. Yes, I'm sure you would pick an adorable curtain fabric, and yes, I often feel the urge to cover up my crafting drawers, cubbies, etc. as well. Although aestheticly pleasing, said curtains will likely "get old" as you open and close them and the joy of the curtains will be marred by the inconvenience. An alternative is a covering in the doorway of the closet, one which is completely out of the way when "open". That way you can enjoy the blocking of the storage without the fussiness of moving curtains. One possibility, which may not work logistically, is to get/make a decorative roller shade and install it across the front of the lower counter. This would allow it to be rolled up while working and hide the storage at other times. You could alternatively install a roller shade at the top inside of the doorway (so the roller part is hidden) or get/make a Roman shade to pull/drop down over the opening of the closet. This latter idea would cover up the darling wall paper you labored to install unless the shade were translucent. For example, if you went with the roller shade, you could get more of the sticky wallpaper and use it to make a custom shade matching the interior. If you want the inside walls to show, you could sew a custom Roman shade using the sewing machine you mentioned. It could have super see-through fabric on the top portion revealing the wallpaper and more opaque fabric at the bottom to hide the storage. The last suggestion is a faux curtain approach. Get two 1 X 1's or 1" square dowel rod's each measuring 1/2 the width of the counter. Attch one end onto of each rod to the wall at counter height (either counter) using a hinge (you can use shutter hardware as well). Take each curtain and gather it onto the wood secruring the end of the curtain to its respective rod on the non-wall end (middle). When you are crafting, just swing the curtains open like a door or shutter and close to conceal. Optionally, you may want to use magnets, velcro or some other closing mechanism if the curtains tend to swing open. Hope this isn't too much opining! Looking forward to part 2!

    I love this makeover! That wallpaper is snazzy, the upper shelves provide great storage, and the two side shelves are perfect for your Cricuit and Silhouette machines! That countertop is so beautiful!! And it’s so cool that you had room for another shelf under it. How sturdy are those units from Michaels? What will you do with the old drawer unit? I think I’d leave the curtain off. That way, you can see what you have at a glance and it’s not in your way when you need to utilize the cabinets. Plus, I think craft products are pretty, so it’s nice to see all the things!! I look forward to Part 2 of this project!!

      The old drawer unit has made its way to the basement. I'll use it down there some how. I think the units from Michaels are pretty sturdy. I used to have their old cube storage and it didn't hold up super well, but this seems a bit thicker in general.

      ScrappyWife, I’m glad you found another use for it. If you decide to get rid of it, though, let me know. I’m going to check into those Michael’s units, especially since you think they’re sturdy! Thanks.

    I think you should leave it. If you don't see it you aren't as likely to use it. I LOVE that wallpaper. You may have inspired me to do a redo😀

    Part of the fun of having a craft room is getting to reorganize it once in awhile to see what you have. On another note, I would not do the curtain since it would probably get in your way to get your supplies or cause you to not use them because of the hassle to move open it. And would you ever close it?

      Totally agree on the reorganizing...it definitely rejuvenates me!

    Curtains hide things and things that are hidden aren't used. Nice job with the closet transformation.

    Oh my goodness Elisa, am I the only person who is going to vote for the curtain? I would go for the neatness myself. I wouldn't have a problem with moving it when I needed something. This video is perfect timing for me as I'm just about ready to re do the closet in my craft room as well. I don't know if you're going to tell us in the next video or not, but how deep is your closet? Mine is wide but I'm not sure it's as deep as yours; yours looks fantastic! I like things put away, but that's me.

      I vote for the curtain too.

      @ScrappyWife  Před 4 lety

      Mine is about 25" deep. You aren't the only one that has voted for the curtain....I agree, I don't think it would be that big of a deal to move it out of the way when I was reaching for something.

      @@ScrappyWife I realized after I asked the question that I could figure it out -- it's about as deep as the cutting machines! I love how it looks, I may go for it! Thank you SO much for sharing your concept and execution!

    I wouldn’t put a curtain up. The area is neat and a pro is that you can see at a glance the items in the area
