This game has a unique mission system, where the story branches based on your choices. Depending on the outcomes of certain events and battles, characters might live or die.
This results in two main story branches. "Historical" is what actually happened. "Hypothetical" explores 'what if' scenarios, and shows what would happen if certain characters had not died.
Historically, Dian Wei and Xiahou Yuan die, but they live in the hypothetical story. This video shows all the events of both.

Something I hope for in the next DW game is more clashes between Wu and Shu. I understand why Wei is attacked by both so much but it is a war between 3 kingdoms and Wei is my favorite. Maybe smaller clashes that lead up to Yiling perhaps. And they should've have Wu or Shu conquer one or the othrt in one of their hypothetical endings instead of both destroying Wei. Still loved the game.

If I remember my ROTK correctly, Zhang Fei actually did lead forces in skirmishes against wu prior to Yi Ling just right after Fan Castle, but mistreated the hell out of his men and got killed because of it.

Yup! People have always complained about how Dynasty Warriors has the same story every game, since they need to show what historically happened. But now each kingdom has a "what if" branch that tells an original story.

The cut scene from 7:40 to 8:21. Laughed so hard while playing the game during the scene. It's always humorous when the playable characters nonchalantly dispose of non-playable enemy officers. Arguably only rivaled by the scene from 40:45 to 41:45.
I'm pretty glad they brought in the Hypothetical storyline in, it's actually what use to be done before, and actually let you play way pass a character's life expectancy.

I've watched this video like, at least ten times (for the sole purpose of watching Xiahou Dun's Blinding Scene at 7:40), and this time I decided to watch it with CZcams's Subtitles for shits & giggles. It's actually a little more fun than I thought it would be.

7senM7md Actually In real life Cao Pi became emperor, and forced the previous emperor to abdicate the throne. He also proved his worth to his father after the loss of Cao Ang, the first son of Cao Cao. He became something his father wasn't able to.

Cao Pi was under no delusions. Only strength matters. He's right. Cao Cao was incorrect with chaos being the problem. Chaos and destruction are two very different things. If Cao Cao sought to understand chaos instead of destroying it then he would have learned something.
He would have learned the language of the savage beasts. Communication is key. Instead he claims the moral high ground and his empire turns into dust. Perhaps he even knew he was the chaos monster himself in the end yet knew no other way. Much like Nobunaga Oda in Samurai Warriors 5. Thoughts never mentioned to anyone, safe perhaps for Cao Pi who clearly went a different way.
DW7 Xiahou Dun losing his eyes is better than DW8.
I mean, he flinched long here. In DW7, it's like he doesn't care about it. Only a few seconds flinch.
But I love the intro, though.

He then suggested Cao Hong that they should strike the enemy upfront when Zhang Fei and Ma Chao were still dwelling on the fantasy that their tactic would work out. Zhang Fei and Ma Chao retreated back to Han Zhong after being defeated by Cao Hong,

DW8 had the best voice acting AND did the best at explaining everyrhing.
Best voice acting, best looking characters, great weapons, great side mode, fun and thrilling battles, extended endings for each kingdom and a lot of playtime. Definitely the best dw game imo

Not quite, it tries to replicate old dynasty warriors games with the hypothetical route, at least in my opinion.
If you've played one, there's no point in playing the other. I never played 8 and am waiting for 9 to be something different.
i don't remember 7 and from what I've seen in this video it seems so new and exciting nothing at all like the previous DW... definitely gonna spend some time on this game,, when is 9 coming out anyway? nowhere to be announced yet.

At 30.56 is the cutscene at the end of battle of Chibi, the historical version. Not sure about the third movie.

Marcio Martins Gameplay wise, DW8 is the best in the franchise so far. Story wise, DW7 is.
Well, for me the franchise die out after DW5. History mode was butchered and i hate the anime style of the character.

Marcio Martins You gotta give credit to 7 for giving a beautiful ending, also the new Kingdom of Jin, and a new set of awesome bad ass music.
And yeah, 6,7, and 8 are way too OP, that's why it turned to shit.
DW3 is the best among all tbh, DW4 had the best soundtracks and they even perfected Lu Bu's theme. DW5 is still okey, but then 6,7 and 8 are just too easy to play.
I guess. You can always crank up the difficulty (which results in enemies having more hp and dmg, appart of being more aggressive).
I like to play it as a power fantasy, but I'd love to see more aggressive enemies in lower difficulties.
