Wow. There is so much progress on the portal now. It looks great. Thanks for the video
Surprisingly I haven't heard anything about TBMs for this site yet; only for the Chiltern tunnel.
Hs2 is a joke its completely destroying our wildlife and it just cut down trees which children are berried under
@@Yeti_SploofZ They haven't cut down any trees where children are buried. If you are talking about that memorial, it will be put back in place after the line is built
@@jermainetrainallen6416 dude there was news articles about it. Hs2 Is a huge mess and shouldnt happen its ruining wildlife areas
@@Yeti_SploofZ nah i was talking to a badger yesterday he said all his mates are loving the new homes, he said there were very spacious and modern and enjoyed the central heating.
Is 'Ufton Wood' (as per OSM) an alternative name for Long Itchington Wood?
The OS 'Explorer' map I have shows half of the wood is named Ufton Wood, and the other half (under which the tunnel will be bored) is named Long Itchington Wood - and HS2 Ltd uses this name.
From Fraser Mitchell, husband of Leslie
This tunnel is partly bored and partly cut-and-cover. The 1:10000 plan shows some sort of construction at the north end just before the actual tunnel bores, plus the cutting immediately before the tunnels is very wide so tunnel portal buildings can be constructed. What these are for is not stated on the plans.
See here for the detail of the north end: -

in which direction is the tunnel going
Trains entering the tunnel at this point will be heading south, towards London.
Seems quite big for two portals..
But not as large as the construction area for the Chiltern tunnel portals. See czcams.com/video/VbbySu81ztA/video.html
Am I correct in thinking that boring commences in May?
HS2 Ltd says:
"We expect the first ‘drive’ of the TBM to begin in the summer/autumn of 2021. BBV will bore two tunnels under Long Itchington Wood, emerging near the A452 and Dallas Burston Polo Club. The final breakthrough of the TBM is anticipated to be during autumn of 2022."

Also:
"Two tunnels will be excavated beneath Long Itchington wood as part of the main construction works. The tunnel boring machine (TBM) will be delivered to site and assembled at the north end of the tunnel. Once the first bore is complete, the TBM is dismantled at the southern end and taken back to the northern entrance to be reassembled. Work to construct the second bore then begins. Construction of the twin bored Itchington Wood tunnel is expected to take 18 months to complete."

@@MarkThrushton Brilliant, thanks for the info
What's happening with the grand union canal ??
The line will cross the Grand Union Canal on a bridge (known as 'Longhole Viaduct').
See the plan here: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/532883/C223-CSI-CV-DPP-030-000003-FPD.pdf
@@MarkThrushton Thank you, How high is this going to be?
I found a PDF which says: "The proposed Longhole Viaduct will be approximately 140m in length, followed by an embankment up to 9.5m in height"

evil stop it now!!!!!!!
I cant believe all the people who want this train line its absolute poo they are cutting trees down all the time they cut down trees which children where buried under and they've cut down the best tree of the year award tree they've cut down ancient woodland and all that just for a 30 minute quicker travel
If you disagree with me your a horrible person
For me a 40 min improvement is not worth the money, for me it only makes sense because the wcml is at capacity and moving the high speed trains onto hs2 could free up loads of space on the wcml
@@kieransharp18 but there still destroying ancient Woodlands and wildlife areas
HS2 will pant more tres than they destroy though
@@routemaster3877 yes but quite a few animals will go extinct if they carry on
@@Yeti_SploofZ alot more animals with extinct if we continue to burn fossil fuels at the current rate, one of the best ways to reduce co2 emotions is within electric railways
