Hearing frequency test for each ear. This test will help you to judge if there is a difference in the frequencies you can hear through your left and right ear.
I heard everything before 12,000, but 12,000 and after was silent to me. I'm in my 60s and I thought my right ear was damaged from range fire in the Army in the 80s, but I actually hear better in my right ear now.
FYI: Your audio setup is most likely not configured for hearing tests, so this test is probably highly inaccurate and I recommend you go to an actual doctor to check your hearing if you're concerned. Your digital to analog converter(s), your amplifier(s), your headphones/speakers, your OS' audio output architecture, the software and programming used, the audio file's format, bitrate, etc. will all affect the output of the sound.
@@mattw5840 it is more scientific than you think to do a true hearing test. look up tympanometry youll see that true tests use air input to test your true hearing

Pro tip turn the earbuds upside down and switch which ears they’re in. If the same side as before still sounds quieter then it’s your ears not your earbuds.
@Solutions Architect It's everything. Don't trust a random online hearing test when you haven't adjusted everything to work properly. The DAC, amplifier, analog output, operating system's audio output architecture, software, format, bitrate, etc. all affect the output of the sound. It's not adjusted for hearing tests until you make it so. I bet the audio is compressed around 16 kHz. (I'm alao listening on Sennheiser 6XX's, lmao.)
It should really be explained in the video but the average upper limit for an adult is around 15-17khz... so if you stop hearing them at that point, there's nothing wrong with your hearing. Volume warning for 1:11 though, that COULD damage your hearing.

This test is great! I combined it with a tone generator I found on the web, and between the two I have a good understanding of my slow, steady decline since first diagnosed 11 years ago at my ENT DR. My left ear taps out at 10.4kHz, and my right at 8kHz (per the tone generator). This vid shows me that my left is slightly stronger than my right even at 500, 2.5k and 7k. And both ears do not hear anything at 7kHz at -36db. So far I have no issues in everyday life, including conversations at a table in a restaurant with significant background noise. I think when I start to tap out at 5kHz I will have issues and see an audiologist for hearing aids.
This was the balance test I was looking for...thanks. It confirms what I thought. My left ear is rolling off quicker than the right. This must be why I have needed to increased my left speaker by 1.5 dbs. And even then the central image is still slightly to the right. Mind you I am 74 years old! I would not be at all surprised if it is to do with using a mobile phone on the left ear, all that radiation can't be good!
Rodney, just curious, I'm wondering what's the highest frequency you can hear. I'm in my mid 40s and can't hear beyond the 14-15k range. I miss hearing those super high frequencies!
Yeah, something is definitely wrong with my left ear, i got it totally cleaned out a couple days ago after a build up of wax but still noticed sound was more quiet in my left ear and this proved it. I could only hear some sounds with my right
at 16k my right ear was silent, I think I blew it out back in Jan this year, it started to itch really badly one night when listening to loud af bass boosted dubstep and then in the morning my hearing was panned mostly to the left
Try putting them in different ears and seeing if it’s different. If the audio is messed up on the earbuds, it will switch ears. If your ear is messed up, it will stay on the same ear. If that happens, go see your doctor.

My right ear is so messed up. There’s sort of a pulsing effect to this, is there not? Eight “whirs” on every sound? Both my ears could hear up to 12,000, but if I’m not mistaken, my right ear couldn’t quite detect the pulsing past 7,000. I wonder why that is. Maybe it’s to do with earwax, or the differences in the shapes of my ears? Maybe my headphones? I feel like there might be a little more earwax in my right ear right now, so I’m leaning towards it being mainly that.
what defines being able to hear the frequency and not being able to hear the frequency, is it as long as you can hear something or if it just sounds like a ringing
Damn, I couldn't hear then higher frequency sounds at all lol. But I could somehow here all of the volumes of the other frequencies somewhat easily... I just got a severe traumatic brain injury and lost like 80% of my hearing initially (from my skull literally exploding open and my brain tasting the road lol). Yet, with my headphones on (and at normal volume), I feel I can hear more than IRL... Shits mad weird and I really hope that my hearing returns to normal over time. Good luck with hearing, everyone!
@@chocox6491 Much better now. Left side has sensorineural hearing loss. Right side was conductive hearing loss due to a broken stapes. I had to go to three different places because the two most prominent and trusted hospitals in my area all said that there was no physical damage visible on the right side. The sad truth was that *all* of the doctors at both prominent hospitals didn't know how to read an MRI... I almost vomited at how clueless they were because when I saw a specialist elsewhere, she was shocked that the "top doctors" in the area viewed no physical damage - as the damage was very clear to her to the point where she showed me the scan...and yeah, the physical damage was clear as day. The moral of the story is to never trust the modern doctors. It seems that you have to get a diagnosis re-evaluated by as many doctors as possible nowadays due to either a lack of care or lack of knowledge in the medical field.
Its weird, maybe someone will read this and help me: When Ive got Headphones I always hear music more to the left and not only music. I have the feeling that I hear the music a bit less on the right ear. Also my right ear is super sensitive to low basses, when I hear a lot of certain bass frequencies the right ear hurts after a short time. So I made this test: I could hear a bit above 16k but then my left ear stopped but on the right I stil could hear a bit of the 19k, which makes no sense as I have the feeling my right ear is worse than my left...
Ever since I rinsed the wax out of my right ear it’s opened up but has felt slightly muffled compared to my left ear. But even then I can hear up to 16000 (though it is very slight and my hearing is better at the level below this)
Almost 50 - can't hear the 19,000 Hz test via headphones but can still hear them when I connect my phone to my hi-fi set up with a JM Lab Utopia loudspeakers with 1990s era beryllium tweeters. 🤔
Don't attend concerts without hearing protection and don't let your friends do so. I forgot my hearing protection and I didn't want to miss the concert, so I went anyway. Despite the show being great, I'd rather not have attended it. I have pressure in my left ear and my hearing is damaged. I concluded this not only from the test provided here. Cleaning my ears with a cotton bud, it was obvious I can't hear high frequencies on the left. Reading about acoustic trauma online suggests I might not recover entirely and that my hearing might get worse as I age, due to higher sensitivity of the ear(s).
I tried with two different headphones (well actually 1 pair of headphones and one of earbuds) and in both cases I heard the right side less. But then I tried putting the headphones backwards and there were moments when I could hear the right side but not the left side, so it me something with the cable. But I still think I should get my right ear checked, just in case. Thank you for this, it helped me a lot
I think volume 5 , because Doctors recommend the 60%/60-minute rule: Listen to music or play a movie or video game at no more than 60% of the maximum volume. Limit the amount of time you spend with earbuds in your ears to 60 minutes.
Right I always suspected my right ear to be more deaf, as the previous hearing tests told me but this confirmed I can’t hear 16,000 in my right but I can in my left
Probably have small tinnitus on right ear than bcuz I have something similar. I can clearly hear more on my right than on my left. They’re both about the same and I hardly notice the tinnitus. The only time I hear it is when it’s dead quite. And it’s only on my left ear not my right.
Thank you Definitely have a problem with my right ear. Both of my ears are always really wet..every day all day. I believe having chronic sinus infections has done something to my ears, nose and throat. My left could hear all thru 12,000 My right couldn’t So then I flipped my headset and yes same result my right ear cannot hear the full spectrum of 12,000. I will be making an appointment with an ENT tomorrow. I will come back to this with my results
My right ear is half deaf... and what's worse is the tones that I can hear in my right ear, they're slightly higher pitched in that ear than they are in my left ear :(
Strange. With my headphones I had problems with 7khz but good with everything else. With my earphones I was good with everything but 12khz which was overpowering on the right. When I swapped my earphones on 12khz to left and right the sound went with it and the right on left became stronger. I can't tell what's going on.
Well. Even after this i cant tell if its the headphones or me. When j have them on normally the sound is decidedly balanced towards the right but when i turn them around i cant hear a difference.
Okay, so odd question here that I really want help from someone for... :( I recently got into a massive accident and lost hearing in both ears... The four ENTs that I've been to all said "we have no clue what's wrong with your ears, so I'm guessing mixed hearing loss (sensorineural and conductive). I also told these doctors about a eustachian tube dysfunction, and yet, they all denied an examination for some goofy reason (but that's less important right now). Anyway, I'm listening to this video with bone conduction headphones, and oddly enough, I still can hear just about every single frequency from start until the -36db... So based on being able to still hear with bone conduction, does that mean I more than likely have sensorineural hearing loss or conductive hearing loss? My right ear was a tiny bit more quiet than my left ear, but my left ear has a weird issue where it mixes up speech with background noises and makes it very difficult to hear people speaking... My right ear can hear way less (maybe like 1% hearing is left, total), but can still hear speech normally when I hear it through my bone conduction headphones... Does anyone have any idea on what could be the issue? I've been researching this stuff for WEEKS and can't figure it out, sadly... *EDIT* - Also, feel free to leave a guess if you want to. All of my doctors have done nothing but guess so far, so it will definitely be a possible answer in my book.
You seem to have a conductive hearing loss, which also fits with your history - the trauma has probably damaged your middle ear and you have difficulties transporting the sound waves to the inner ears. This is a good thing - middle ear problems are much better treated and there is a good chance for you to restore your hearing if you get proper help. Sensorineural issues are much harder to address, but as I said, this doesn’t seem to be the case for you. Wishing you all the best and hopefully a speedy recovery!
@@givemethesantahatfoo Hey man. Krokadila was correct in regards to the right ear. The right ear was indeed experiencing conductive hearing loss. Luckily for me - after a stapedectomy - I got around 80% hearing back in my right ear =). My left ear, however, had and still has sensorineural hearing loss =/. I think that the ultimate problem that I had regarding not being able to find a doctor that could be helpful was due to my location. It seems that if you are trying to get medical help in the state of NY, you will be screwed *unless* you go to NYC. The downside to getting an appointment booked there is the fact that you will have to wait around 7-8 months before your appointment comes up due to the population density. But the wait is well worth it considering how unknowledgeable the doctors were in all of the other parts of the state =(
My Meniere's ear there's a noticeable difference in how loud each one sounds to me in my left vs right ear. Interesting though 2,500 triggered my hyperacusis. It's a bummer, but I knew it was affecting my hearing. I guess this test will be a good way to keep track of it on my own.
it's been two days since i couldn't hear anything in my left ear. doing this test only makes me feel worse. i feel like there's no more hope. feels depressing
Can you hear from your left ear now? I had a weird experience on it since two days ago, and since then it can still hear, but muffled. I went to a doctor and he did a test, I can still hear apparently, despite the weird feeling, and gave me pills for it to pass and just to be safe.
I played in a rock band high school into college. Got drafted into the Army and when I got out had 10% hearing loss. Spent 30 years as a cop after that having to qualify on firing range twice a year. I could not hear anything past 7,000 HZ is that bad?
The problem is youtube decreases the volume of all videos making these tests pointless and music less enjoyable to listen to... Right click on the video and go to stats for nerds and you will notice that the audio has been normalized which means you are not getting correct results... Idk why we are not allowed to decide for ourselves if a video is too loud or not
I'm not able to hear from my left ear after 16000 hz -10d but I'm able to hear from my right ear .....is it serious.....will it get worse....and can I stop it from happening
Your hearing should be restored once your infection clears, but as someone that's wrestled with one, don't wait to go to the doctor! You'll only make it worse if you do so, cause that can make for loads of complications honestly. Shouldn't mess around with your ear.

stopped hearing at 19k
Damn, I couldn't hear then higher frequency sounds at all lol. But I could somehow here all of the volumes of the other frequencies somewhat easily... I just got a severe traumatic brain injury and lost like 80% of my hearing initially (from my skull literally exploding open and my brain tasting the road lol). Yet, with my headphones on (and at normal volume), I feel I can hear more than IRL... Shits mad weird and I really hope that my hearing returns to normal over time.
Good luck with hearing, everyone!
Damn bro, i'm happy you survived what sounds like a crazy injury. i hope your hearing is getting better with time. God bless u!
What the fuck
how the hearing going?
Doo meditation in 5 AM. For 30min,
* You may not have bad hearing it could be the volume , your headphone limit etc...
and also this is to comare one ear to another
Its weird, maybe someone will read this and help me: When Ive got Headphones I always hear music more to the left and not only music.
Excellent test, thank you
Thanks, from this video now I know I have hearing problem on right ear.
Ever since I rinsed the wax out of my right ear it’s opened up but has felt slightly muffled compared to my left ear. But even then I can hear up to 16000 (though it is very slight and my hearing is better at the level below this)
my right ear sounds muffled compared to my left ear... its annoying. wonder if thats normal?
that happened to me too, i woder did it ever go away for you?
@@el02bro youtube limits audio frequencies to a certain extent. go on a hearing test website and do this.
Okay now I'm deaf 😌it felt like I've gone for bird watching 😄
Ty for this, I had a sinus infection that made me deaf in the left ear and it finally is clearing up so I was using this to test my ear lol
How long did it last ?
Almost 50 - can't hear the 19,000 Hz test via headphones but can still hear them when I connect my phone to my hi-fi set up with a JM Lab Utopia loudspeakers with 1990s era beryllium tweeters. 🤔
Bro I'm raising my hands on which side I hear it on because I'm so used to doing it
Could you atleast warn me I almost had a heart attack ;-;
At 16 khz my left ear stopped hearing anything at all, while my right ear heard everything subtly until -36 db
See a doctor bro
I tried with two different headphones (well actually 1 pair of headphones and one of earbuds) and in both cases I heard the right side less. But then I tried putting the headphones backwards and there were moments when I could hear the right side but not the left side, so it me something with the cable. But I still think I should get my right ear checked, just in case.
Thank you for this, it helped me a lot
I think it is not just you me to
What volume are we supposed to set this at though? Maximum or the lowest?
I think volume 5 , because Doctors recommend the 60%/60-minute rule: Listen to music or play a movie or video game at no more than 60% of the maximum volume. Limit the amount of time you spend with earbuds in your ears to 60 minutes.
This helped me know that my headphones were actually broken and not just from 1 ear. im sad now, these were expensive.
Right I always suspected my right ear to be more deaf, as the previous hearing tests told me but this confirmed I can’t hear 16,000 in my right but I can in my left
same i hv gone deaf in my right ear in 16k
From the 500-12000Hz range, the frequency sounded duller on my right ear while it sounded brighter on my left :(
Probably have small tinnitus on right ear than bcuz I have something similar. I can clearly hear more on my right than on my left. They’re both about the same and I hardly notice the tinnitus. The only time I hear it is when it’s dead quite. And it’s only on my left ear not my right.
Left hear stops at 12000 at -36 and right at around 16000
Exactly the same thing... why is that though? And Im 38 years old
@@-MarkWinston- i think youtube doesnt support higher than 13 khZ frequency
@@saddreams3449 i still can hear sound at 16khz on my right ear on youtube. Tested it with a frequency generator and results were the same.
@@-MarkWinston- oh okay
@@-MarkWinston- same age, same range - right ear works definitely better
Thank you
Definitely have a problem with my right ear. Both of my ears are always really wet..every day all day.
I believe having chronic sinus infections has done something to my ears, nose and throat.
My left could hear all thru 12,000
My right couldn’t
So then I flipped my headset and yes same result my right ear cannot hear the full spectrum of 12,000. I will be making an appointment with an ENT tomorrow. I will come back to this with my results
hows the result?
they passed away sadly@@al4965
My right ear is half deaf... and what's worse is the tones that I can hear in my right ear, they're slightly higher pitched in that ear than they are in my left ear :(
i didnt hear the 16k, but i heard the 19 k what?
I heard everything but in the 19000 range was super quiet
me too but idk if this is fake or something bc 19000 didn’t rly even sound higher than 16000
my hearing caps out at 17.5 khz so couldn't hear shit at 19 khz
I recently got into a massive accident and lost hearing in both ears...
Hey, curious to see what happened and if KrokodilaGena's advice helped. Hope your ears are much better now!
But the wait is well worth it considering how unknowledgeable the doctors were in all of the other parts of the state =(
@@NippleSauce yeah, they don't make real Drs. anymore. And Marcus Welby died.
trying to figure out if my right ear actually has problems or if its my earphones lol
Wow, this video gave me hearing loss if I didn't have any before.
Now I know my head phone is just quieter in one ear😂
16000hz -18db is the last frequency that is audible for me hopefully that's a good thing
Same here

12,000Hz -10dB I could hear in my left ear but not my right then nothing after that.
How old are you?
tried to find if my left ear has some hearing issues but I heard all of them till the end so idk what to make of that
My Meniere's ear there's a noticeable difference in how loud each one sounds to me in my left vs right ear. Interesting though 2,500 triggered my hyperacusis. It's a bummer, but I knew it was affecting my hearing. I guess this test will be a good way to keep track of it on my own.
16,000Hz -10dB is where I stopped hearing in my right ear. Is this normal?
above average. dw
I heard everything!
do to covid I had to use this.. I have lost hearing in my left ear and had to check for something that would test it thank you..

Same, I have come to the conclusion that i am just being stupid and paranoid
I have meniere's disease and I hear less in my right ear , so I came here to test my hearing.
Is there a specific volume I should have set on during this test or what? I can start hearing things when I crank it
I’m not sure😂
it's been two days since i couldn't hear anything in my left ear. doing this test only makes me feel worse. i feel like there's no more hope. feels depressing
This test is not scientific and can’t diagnose you with hearing loss. If you are worried we would recommend you seek professional assistance.
Can you hear from your left ear now? I had a weird experience on it since two days ago, and since then it can still hear, but muffled. I went to a doctor and he did a test, I can still hear apparently, despite the weird feeling, and gave me pills for it to pass and just to be safe.
I put it at full volume and managed to hear 19.000Hz -36dB, just barely...
Yeah, because that one isnt supported by headsets usually.
@@Meemzeh I thought I was tripping😂 I played it through my phone speaker and then I heard it
Can't hear anything beyond 16000Hz but I feel a real weird discomfort with the 19000Hz even without hearing anything
This is why overtones are important.
I played in a rock band high school into college. Got drafted into the Army and when I got out had 10% hearing loss. Spent 30 years as a cop after that having to qualify on firing range twice a year. I could not hear anything past 7,000 HZ is that bad?
Yep, figured my hearing was worse in my right ear. At 1:46 I could hear the sound in my left but absolutely nothing in my right.
Other way around for me lol
At 1:47
I definitely hear better in my right ear. Idk why though

sorry, if there is no sound 16khz onwards, whether it's speakers or on my headphones, is it a bad thing?
The problem is youtube decreases the volume of all videos making these tests pointless and music less enjoyable to listen to... Right click on the video and go to stats for nerds and you will notice that the audio has been normalized which means you are not getting correct results... Idk why we are not allowed to decide for ourselves if a video is too loud or not

Your hearing should be restored once your infection clears, but as someone that's wrestled with one, don't wait to go to the doctor! You'll only make it worse if you do so, cause that can make for loads of complications honestly. Shouldn't mess around with your ear.
Seeing a specialist tomorrow. My hearing stopped at 1:28 I'm 41 and had some hearing difficulties most of my life but now my right hear has gone to such a low level.
