That intro though..lol.! Jake could easily play a serial killer in a movie
Excellent! Can’t wait to see how you progress. Thank you. Cheers, Jeff. 👍😀🦘🍺
Mate the intro was just something else 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm a Patrol man but Wow that 60 series is a pure gem, keep her in good condition.
A handbrake that works??? in a Landcruiser???? say whaaaaaaat? LOL....... can't wait to see the rest of the build fella's. Alex and I are already champing at the bit to see the next episode :) Cheers, Don and Alex (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland)
This is gonna be epic, it's hard as hell to find these in Perth! Well done Jake and Alex! Awesome commentary from the missus too! Can wait for more episodes!
It is hey! Most of the 60's ended up parked at a beach shack and used as a boat launcher. Not much left of em now!
Great video boys. Looking forward to seeing the build
Loving the 60.... Can't wait to see it transforming..gr8 jobs guys
I can't wait for these build videos. This is going to be great-
Jake congratulations, so that would be described as a "Renovators Delight"
Can't wait see the oversize yellow spotties ha ah. These mild renovations and actually using the thing are great to see thanks.
Really looking forward to this build. Simple wins every day i reckon.
Love the PTO winch too. Worked for the bushtucker man so they can't be too bad.
Great intro! Good luck with the build, will be watching with intents interest .......
If you are looking for 24 volt stuff the 12ht was also used in the imported 1980s toyota coaster bus so you may try coaster or truck wreckers since all coasters are 24 volt so some parts may be interchangeable. The A/C compressor may also be the same as well as alternator but I am not sure since they used 2 V belts on the A/C.
What an absolute beauty, slow and clunky and they go forever. We loved our old 60 and were very sad to see it go. Suspension is a bit worn out but that is an easy fix.
This will be great guys. Love the classics.
Can’t wait to see it after susp, and new tyres awesome rig jake. 👍
I love that intro, great job Jake. Cheers Steve
That was so fun to make 😁 and we premiered it at the Perth 4wd show which was a good laugh! Shame we didn't have it to show you at the Sydney show Steve!
Legendary intro guys
Man that front bumper/bench seat is something else.
So keen to watch this unfold
Looking forward to seeing the build.
Looking forward to a 'light' buildup Jake, that's a great looking 60!!
Cheers Ian 🙂 yep, no coffee machines and soda factories on this one! Just pure 80's spec tourer
Looking forward to watching it transform boys 👍
Fluffy dice hanging off the revision mirror be a nice touch
This'll be interesting, Cheers guys
awsome 60!!! love diferent cars like that
Love the sound of that 12HT- Like a 1HDT but more grumbly.
Awesome! I'm doing the same to my BJ60 in Canada. At least you don't have rust to deal with!! Mine isn't too bad though. My suggestion: put an 80 series rear wiper on it.
I put it down to how it's mostly so damn dry here! And do they salt the roads over there? Salted roads would SUCK!
60 with a few choice mods look fantastic sounds great aswell and will provide plenty of episodes for backyard mechanic 😂
Great truck ! That PTO is a winner I have one myself and i can't tell you how many times its come in handy way better than an electric winch :)
Yeah really looking forward to cracking that thing open for a service and giving it a test out!
Love that jakes finally in an amazing rig let alone family history let me know if i can help like i told taylor after he turned to the right side love your work boys
You guys are great :) cheers
Oh My. It’s beautiful.
Oh yes. That’s one Smoooth looking vehicle. I can just imagine it once had a radio with an on/ off button and a dial knob to change channels. Unlike today when an instruction manual is just about needed every time to do those two functions. I’ll be very interested to see how you test out the snorkel.
Yesss, and only the radio would have worked cos the tape deck would be jammed up with a Spandau Ballet cassette from 1993 😂
Easily the best you tube channel. Love the dead pan humour boys
Man keen as to see a set of Halogen's on 4wd again, I only recently upgraded my Lightforce 240s to LED's and not 100% certain they won't be going back on, fantastic Lights that still get the Job done. But this def sounds Like a great Build to follow
So good. Cant wait for build up.
Parabolic springs . They give you a bit more flex 👌
Love it, terrific old trucks! Luckily, mine is an Aussie 12v. 💪👍
I've got a 1986 12ht Sahara Australian delivered, with round head lights and metallic blue paint. I don't think I could ever part with it. 👍
love the background laugh at 4.59s lol
As a mad LOTR's fan, I particularly liked this comment 👍 12:22
That mass effect top though👌
Would love to see some more mechanics/maintenance with Rhiannon 👍 🔧
I’m parting a 60 and have a dash facia in brisbane and other bits if needed
Mr Landcruiser in QLD might be able to help source a new dash panel if that's what you might be interested in.... just a thought
Love the old 60s
Used to own a 1989 HJ61 until last year. Great at offloading. The steering on this bad and will stay poor. The axles and all the bearings need to be changed.. if your 12ht is leaking then being Australia is the best place to be. For suspension i suggest getting some ARB setup.. if its rusting better discard the entire body and get a new one.. if sunroof is working then you are a lucky gentleman. Get rid of the bull bar and extended bumpers if you want to enjoy the highway.. 12ht wasnt made for highway.. its mostly a desert warrior.
A long hard shaft? PTO winches sure are interesting
Great trucks great engines 12ht
I have one exactly like that, and now it is fully fitted for fun with all the fruit A-Z. Also comes with cable lockers F+R. 24v is a nightmare for spare parts as is the automatic transmission. In foresight after 10 years of ownership I wouldn’t spend any money on yours to make it into an off-road vehicle. Local 12v with 5 speed manual will serve you much better off-road.
Mr landcruiser in qld would be the one stop shop for the 60 series
Paul only has a few 60's no 24V ones if I remember correctly, maybe try Brad @Early Landcruiser Spares in Adelaide if Paul can't help you
Killer first video boys can’t wait to see it getting built up
Great!
Yeow!!
Onya boys
Yeh to be honest I'm a bit out of depth with the 2.8 patrol I just got. Already having the injector pump rebuilt. I may need to borrow Rhiannon for like...well... a month or two???
12:53 You will probably find more suitable options in the Android side of things to fit in there.
I want one one day as my daily, just such an iconic car. Don't want to tarnish it
single DIN cup holders!
Contact mr landcruiser, he should have the factory fascia part or a local wrecker
Hot tip once you clean up the wheels to where you’d like it get them painted in clear coated and they won’t tarnish so quickly
The new Leyland brothers!!?
try Mr landcruiser in QLD for fascia ????
Great video, keen to see this build. I'm about to get a chopped hj61 for my first car
slap a80 series steering box in it to remove the "play" all 60s steering is jelly at best
Man thats gonna look clean when its done. Looking forward to seeing what comes of it over the next few months. I say months cause there is potential for tonnes of content with the rebuild. Please dont just condense it down to 10 minutes every few weeks lol.
Also mr landcruiser in qld seems to be the go when looking for old school landcruiser parts.
Mate we have gone so in depth that most people might lose interest😆
@@jakethomasgarner1886 i highly doubt it. 99% of ur audience wouldnt know how to restore a vehicle. It would be quite good content and who knows how many people can pick up hints tips and tricks. There is not much content on youtube in regards to that stuff. 4wd action had a good chance with the dirty 30 build from the ground up, literally covered it in 6 episodes, was suoer pathetic.
@@jakethomasgarner1886 from a fellow 60 series owner, please do some more in-depth videos of things!
Oh ok roger that. We have gone into a fair bit of detail on the Instagram out_back_sound where we usually get the hand held camera right in close. Just bits and bobs every few days
video summary: when you buy an old 4wd, check everything and replace / repair as needed
Auto aswell I have the same an interior colour too ,nice rig what you think of the auto
Hi Wayne. We haven’t spent any long driving hours in the old girl yet but we have noticed how fresh the gearbox seems for it’s age. Granted, this vehicle has rather low kilometres but usually automatics that have spent time in japan or just heavy traffic in Australia have problems between first and second gear. It definitely hasn’t had a hard life. Transmission oil looks and smells good but we will service it anyway.
For what it is (the last of the autos in landcruisers that had no electronics) we are pretty impressed so far. Thanks for the topic, mate!
don't fuck it up, don't fuck it up, don't fuck it up, don't fuck it up.
Lol the introduction... Worse than us delica lovers lol
Extractors and an exhaust
A new Pioneer 9 inch head unit might fill the gap in the dash. Old meets new.
75 series springs in the front
Nothing wrong with a PTO winch. Never overheat or drain your battery
I through the diesel version with a 12HT engine is HJ62 - ?
Everyone so far has told me it was HJ61 so that's what I was going with. Out of curiosity I did a quick google search and hj60.com.au/models reckons that the Hj62 is a myth 🤔
@@jakethomasgarner1886 Yes you are right if you are in North America. There is a FJ62, the "F" denotes a petrol engine. At least here in Australia the 62 version of the sixty series also came with a diesel engine and this is where the HJ62 came to be, the "H" for diesel engine. My understanding the 12HT made by Hino in Japan may be unique to Australian Land Cruisers. The same goes for the 105 variant of the 100 series made solely for the Australian market - 100 series body with barn doors at back on 80 series chassis etc. Google information on Land Cruisers generally has a North American model bias. What ever this model is, it a beauty. The sixty series are becoming rare because of their rust problems. Cheers - Land Cruiser owner for over forty years.
Talking of VIN: before 1989 vehicles in Australia didn't have vehicle identification numbers they had engine numbers and chassis numbers.
So a review for the cable locker
Maybe if we ever manage to find one for it. This one didn't come with it equipped but it would be nice to find one and fit it up
Please make any upgrades or modifications reversible. Would hate to see it end up as a broken comp truck. Beautiful land cruiser
Intents also. Contact Mr land cruiser over here in QLD for a new dash
Yeah we'll never actually chop it, you'll be very pleased with how original it has remained. Jake actually did an amazing repair on that fascia in the end!

1989 HJ61 VX auto JDM 24volt 194,000kms. Imported to Australia in 2004 at 115,000kms. It came into the family at about 140,000kms 15years ago. Now that it’s in my hands, she’s getting some serious love
Is that a sun roof?
Jake Thomas Garner you guys just ignored it so o thought it wasn’t working that’s awesome it is working loving the resto
Yeah all that we will do is make sure it stays working but we don’t care much for sunroofs. We get sunburn too easy
🤤🤤🤤🤤
She needs a name Jake
She has one. It will be revealed once all the maintenance is done 😁
Nice looking old girl. be looking forward to see what you do with her..
How much for one of these 61s?
They don't go cheap these days! Mint condition with low kays they can be a collector's item and go anywhere between 50-100k. A pretty standard condition one would be 10-15 thousand
@@Alex.G Hi,Thanks for the info but if they are RH drive are they worth 10,to 15?
Yeah that's the Australian market prices which are all right hand drive. I'm not sure what models there are throughout the rest of the world but I know Toyota do the landcruiser in all sorts of different configurations for each country
These poor troopies get so overloaded
🤣 🤣 🤣
I love your style of content, I could watch it day in day out, no corny bull just fairdinkum information and fun, Thankyou.
Thanks Dennis, greatly appreciated 😀
