For some weird reason I keep mistaking the "Ick” episode for the "Mad Snail Disease", maybe it’s due to the fact the climax of both of the episodes take place in the Krusty Krab, both involved an angry crowd against SpongeBob blaming him for something and also both episodes involved Gary.

As a kid, I remember having these little “learn to read” books of SpongeBob. And one of them was the premise of Waiting, a good few years before the episode came out. Even down to the line “Good. Now will you two be quiet?” The toy in the book was a red piece of string.
Also, that fork joke is actually amazing, I love it.
Think of Fungus Among Us as your “tutorial level” for what’s to come.
Funny that these are the extremely rare 3 part episodes that I believe is only done one other time. Also in regards to Fungus Amoungus, it's going to be the most tame "gross-out" SpongeBob episode you're going to see (since the ick is perfectly safe and edible for bottomfeeders like Gary). Believe you and me there are going to be some future episodes that get NASTY lol

The episode "Waiting" is based on the SpongeBob SquarePants book "Special Delivery!". However, in "Special Delivery!" the "toy" is a piece of string.

Unpopular opinion:
I don't think Fungus Among Us is Bad like a lot of people Say,like don't get me wrong i get perfectly Why a lot of people hate this episode,because of all the grossiness and the fact of the Episode have a lot of "painful to watch scenes",but in my case i found the Episode pretty inoffensive and i kinda respect the fact of the writters wanting to make a experimental Quarentine-themed Episode and the Fungus design is pretty colorful (for a Fungus) i ain't gonna lie and the Episode have some good visual Jokes sometimes.
Still a bad episode i do,but not a horrendous one like a lot of people say It is,like waiting and the love a Patty still worse probably.
The grossiness of Fungus Among Us is just tame compared to the likes of The Splinter or To Love a Patty. Even though artists did a damn fine job making them gross, similar scenes from season 1 are much more pleasant to look at

Oh yeah this is back when SpongeBob started having 3 episodes in one. It was nice to get shorter stories at a time. I remember liking rise and shine because it was nice to see how a SpongeBob character goes through the day.
I owned the short little SpongeBob kids book the Waiting episode was based on. The prize was a string that they broke in half, cried and held a funeral for it, Squidward digs up the grave and ties the two in a knot and happy ever after

One question I always had at the end of 'Fungus Among Us': who in the hell was that random-ass English fish who just came in and acted as the crowd leader out of nowhere?
It's funny how Patrick's living situation evolved. In most of the first two seasons, he just has a chair and a TV, but they were real.
Then in I'm With Stupid, which was the first episode to take place inside, we see him make makeshift furniture out of sand just to convince his parents.
Then starting with The Bully, it was standard for Patrick, and now all of the appliances actually work
This season is pretty weak but the first episode is really good and second is decent. I enjoy the the original fry cook episode, it’s interesting idea. “The Night Light” is really overly hated. It’s not that bad.
There’s actually a children’s book based on “waiting” where SpongeBob gets a piece of string instead

Not my favorite set of episodes but I will say rise and shine is my favorite out of the three in fungus amongus is probably an average episode that's all right that I think is overheated and waiting is just a frustrating episode

I don't like the first 2 episodes and the concept of shorts, but the Fungus Among Us episode makes up for it for me and the next "3" episode format features better episodes.
The introduction of shorts on SpongeBob is not bad, but the way their written, it’s always terribly written.

Rise and Shine was just Patrick's morning routine and Waiting was just waiting for a stupid toy the whole episode, if they at least combined the episodes, they might have had one decent regular length episode.
Instead of Patrick greeting Spongebob and going the opposite way at the end of Rise and Shine, they could have gone towards Spongebob's house and initiated the plot of Waiting.
Fungus Among Us sure aged well.

And now, we enter some of the worst episodes of season 5: Waiting (according to most people).
It feels like the writers were suddenly on some kind of budget with said writers needing to make an episode as quickly as possible, because little-to-nothing happens with very few scene changes, and in such takes so long for something to happen.
All we see is SpongeBob just waiting (as the episode title implied) along with Patrick...for a majority of the episode. And then eventually, we see SpongeBob having a breakdown in front of Patrick of how he's treated everyone else over his impatience. Next thing you know, he finally gets his toy, Patrick breaks it, and then two just go into an emotional breakdown.
These episodes are what PieGuyRulz called the Infamous 83 Trilogy, because they’re 83rd in production order and their all bad.
