  • Dyno services were provided by Jack Sacchette at Jaycee, and the test results were published in HotVWs Magazine. Emcee'd by Dyno Don Chamberlin, this blast from the past was shot in 2006. Part 1 covers the first three engines that were tested. No turbos, no nitrous, these are all-motor aircooled pushrod Volkswagen engines on the dyno. These engines are built to run on the street, not the track.

The SoCal guys all know each other from races and car shows, and the out of town guys are known from internet forums, Facebook, etc.

What do I need to build the 224hp motor? I'm just starting a build and have no idea what to do for a powerplant. I thought a Subaru swap might be the cheap way to go but I'm not sure.

Miguel Gonzalez the camshaft is the brain of the engine. As for racing, the cam is always a secret. Grew up racing, family of engine builders, I can’t have friends without a secret custom camshaft grind. It’s real.

good question... unfortunately i can't remember the exact number, if clyde didn't mention it in the video you'll have to call him up and get the straight scoop.

merla118 it’s the brain of the engine. In racing it’s always a secret. Its real, you’re just naive.

it looks like i asked him in the video: "what have you got here clyde, seven to one compression" and he said yes... he must have told me ahead of time, so i was able to toss it out like that, to get him going... knowing clyde, i think that if it wasn't 7.0:1, he would have corrected me there.
