  • First of all, I'm sorry for this poor quality video. I've tried my best not to compromise on the sound though. Also, the background is very disturbing for this video, yes. That is because we are shifting to a new place and everything is in a mess right now.
    Coming to the video, the hollow liproll is a bit tricky but once you get the concept of dropping your jaw well, you'll pick it up easily.
    Hollow lip rolls are cool, but then don't over use them :P They can be used as a great filler technique as well.

    I think you got *dropping your jaw* _confused_ with *hollowing your throat* .
    You can _easily hum_ through your *nose* with your _jaw dropped_ , but you *can't* hum through your nose with your _throat hollowed_ .
    You can drop your jaw _without_ hollowing your throat.
    Hollowing your throat is what makes all "normal sounds" (e.g. liprolls and clops) *hollow* .
    You can liproll with your jaw dropped _without_ hollowing your throat (you called this dropping the octave).
    Other than that, your tips were pretty good and might help people unlock this sound! *Esh*

    Is the reason you can't hum while doing hollow lip roll because you're breathing in a small amount of air while doing it?

    • @debayanmondal7839
      @debayanmondal7839  Před 3 lety +1

      No coz when you're dropping ypur jaw, you focus your vocal cord to release air or sound only from your mouth. The nose somehow gets blocked due to that reason. You won't be able to brearh in while your jaw is dropped.

      @@debayanmondal7839 I kinda get what you mean but this is the whole reason I can't do it. Could you explain the difference between hollow lip roll and the lower octave lip roll you were showing at the end? That's what happens every time I drop my jaw with a normal lip roll, there's some final piece of the puzzle I'm not getting. Been trying for over a year 😢

      Then try to hum and practise the lip roll, if your humming stops while doing a liproll without breathing air, you're moving in right direction, if it doesn't stop and you can do a lip roll while humming, that's the lower octave one.

      The key is it's not your tongue pulling in the air like when u do a basic liproll. it's your throat muscles tensioning up and your jaw dropping which starts the hollow liproll. Not because of your jaw dropping alone. The tensioning in your throat happens at the same time. The combination of those two things creates a space between your lower back part of your tongue and your adams apple. How i learned it was with a hint from Waali. Use a tiny bit of air when u learn it. Start a basic liproll and then midway through tension up your throath and let a very tiny bit of air get in your lungs. At some point you learn from where the hollow starts and you won't need air anymore. You're basically sucking in air into your lower throat without it entering your lungs while doing the lip shape for a bassy inward breathing liproll, but just the shape!!!
