loved this interview! im so glad the hate is dying down, i genuinely like some of their older tracks. they just seem like good dudes i loved all the classic canadian rock talk
every story i've heard from my friends in the music business who have worked with or run into nickelback over the years confirms what this interview confirms, Nickelback are very nice, smart, funny, and down to earth people.
The fact that nardwuar remembers everything from each conversation perfectly like 5 years later is just wild to me, I wish I could have that kind of memory for motivational quotes
Nickelback isn’t a bad band imo, I watched a video recently where a guy did a study on why they were so hated & it basically stems from the radio playing their songs back to back (these guys made some great songs but were overplayed) which annoyed everyone & someone on the internet started a trend that “hating nickelback is cool” & whoever trashed them is part of the “meme”. People love being a part of the mob & are afraid of being left out.
They were overplayed but from what I remember, it was songs like SEX and Animals that were just a little too on the nose and cemented them as a kind of pop rock band, who, with songs like Rockstar, were trying too hard to be actual rock stars. They probably wouldn’t have had deeper album cuts get popular as singles if it wasn’t for their success more generally, but that’s what I remember being the thing that pushed them from band that makes decent ballads/jams to the meme choosing them as the poster child of the dated-sounded 00s rock era.
Man, I kind of want more bands from this Era like Seether, Saliva...90's, early 2000's grunge and alternative for Nardwuar to interview. Also surprised no current country artists are available for him to interview....I love deep diving into all these artists with him.
Shoutout to poison City Records, on Ryans Shirt. Based in Melbourne Australia and have put out some great albums. One of the driving forces keeping Alt/Punk music alive in Melbourne.
So many wholesome stories out of these guys! That call to Mike was also a great addition (the 'breaking eggs' bit made me laugh so much), awesome interview!
Nardwuar is so F-ing sick! He literally makes anyone he’s interviewing open up cause he brings them down memory lane. They seemed to just be happy talking about stuff they never talk about……lol….apparently not even to each other. Amazing. Thank you.
Saw these guys about 10 years ago in concert, went to see daughtry, very glad these guys were headlining. Super entertaining show. Chad can play the guitar!
Not my go-to band but they're great at what they do, and much respect to anyone who gives Nardwuar the respect he deserves. This was very Canadian - can we get a long-form roundtable interview with say, Chad, Alanis, Celine and Alex Lifeson? I wish you had gotten to interview Gordon Lightfoot.
I’ve seen these guys live 10 times and they kill it every time 🔥 I grew up just like them in a rural Canadian town playing in cover bands, even a few of their songs. So this was great to see, awesome interview
Never got the Nickelback hate - always liked their songs here and there since the 2000s. And that phonecall was hilarious. This whole interview felt like two guys just going down memory lane.
All of Nardwuar's interviews are researched to this depth, dude is a true Journalist. If you haven't watched any of his other interviews I'd highly recommend it, there's an amazing back catalogue.
Amazing interview as always, loved that they had the opportunity to be interviewed by the legend himself! :D (Nardwaur, Please Sign My Evaporators Record!!)
Wow. I did not think I would come away from a nickel back interview having a genuine respect and affection towards Nickelback of all bands. I genuinely cannot find the words to praise the art you do, and what you provide me personally.
I would recommend watching the whole interview. Chad even calls his brother and puts him on speaker, and it's just an awesome wholesome interview in total
This is hands-down the best Nickelback interview I've ever seen. I've been an obsessive fan for years, consuming and remembering every bit of information on them I could find, but I didn't know half of the details they talk about from their early days. How Nardwuar knew any of these things is incredible.
Thank you thank you thank you. keep on rocking and stuff. No doubt that this is gonna get some heat, but please keep acknowledging Canadian bands. How about Joe Evil from Grim Skunk? Or Damien Robitaille? Or so many more...
Silverside up is still one of my favourite all time albums… it’s an unpopular opinion, but also one worth considering if you go back and listen to those tastey riffs
I love that they all have some connection to nardwuar just by being canadian lol the rubber room in vancouver connection between chads brother and nardwuar is hilarious
Chad still owes me $1300 for losing an epic 9-ball session after a show at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver in 2000
Nardwuar please pin this
😅
Pay up, Chád.
Common Chad, pay the man
Chaaaaaaaaad......
Instant boost in respect for the people that treat Nardwuar right.
Canadians
Same. And if they treat em bad, we don’t forget. I’m looking at you Travis barker!
Well you must hate blur then
@@qwerty12476 just the drummer or whatever. the rest of the band was super nice to him.
Amen
Only Naurdwuar can make me finish a 1 hour Nickleback interview without actually knowing it was 1 hour.
100%
How is that exactly. Chad and Ryan did ALL of the talking.
Their Canadian rock talk goes deep! Respect 🤘
because it wasn't one hour aha lol
@@codyandrus4911that’s kind of how an interview is supposed to go…
Say what you want about the band, but they seem like such cool down to earth dudes. And I'm glad they're huge fans of Nardwuar
Their a great band as well & rock live 🤟
I like photograph
Totally. This made me hate their sound a lot less.
I'm a huge metalhead, listen to a lot of Opeth, Gojira, Judas Priest, Metallica and I don't even hate nickelback. They've got lots of good songs
@zachstolpa6521 Yeah fuck it. I like photograph too.
Nickleback giving nardwaur his flowers is what i needed in life.
Nice cliché, dude.
@@KentBuchlatouch grass
😂❤
J Cole as well
it's Nickelback
the collab i never knew i needed until now
i agree Dat
Of all the positive things there is to say about Nardwuar, I haven't seen anyone point out his exceptionally professional mic-holding skills.
Yes he is 100% accurate with his motion haha
loved this interview! im so glad the hate is dying down, i genuinely like some of their older tracks. they just seem like good dudes i loved all the classic canadian rock talk
@@4tado never made it as a wise man
I think the hate for Nickelback is dying out because everyone hates Imagine Dragons now.
lol you said "i" like 3 times you narcissist, this isn't about you and your sensibilities
I think I speak for everyone when I say they have and always will suck
Sell outs…
every story i've heard from my friends in the music business who have worked with or run into nickelback over the years confirms what this interview confirms, Nickelback are very nice, smart, funny, and down to earth people.
And super professional!
The band was just as nice before and after the interview, as they were on camera. Nice guys.
Thank you for sharing this Rob! :)
Rob, I'd love to come in and buy a Death record. Your store is so iconic.
I love hearing Chad and Ryan reminisce. Best friends vibes totally.
I’ll always have a soft spot for nickelback. Listening to these guys songs was my childhood.
Same dude
Same!
The fact that nardwuar remembers everything from each conversation perfectly like 5 years later is just wild to me, I wish I could have that kind of memory for motivational quotes
Probably doesn't do any drugs
These guys clearly know and love music. Nardwuar striking gold once again showing people in a new light.
can't say im a fan but they seem like a good, wholesome guys.
They never made it as wise men
@@EddyG0rdo nice
@@EddyG0rdo They couldn't cut it as poor men stealing either.
My thoughts exactly, they are very likeable
yeah except for the whole drunk driving thing, and something about a banned album art (google that)
A huge mark of respect when a famous band is more nervous about an interview than the interviewer.
chad singing “voodoo lady” by ween was the kind of magic you could only get from a nardwuar interview
He has really good mic movement. Very good at knowing when to move to each person when they are talking to each other.
These guys are so genuinely cool and have so much music knowledge. Loved this one
This is the most Canadian rock interview ever 😅 Nardwuar looks so comfy and mellow. Good content!
Naurdwar was pressing them bros hardbody.
I'll always respect Nickelback for "the side of a bullet" dimebag tribute. They where good in the early 00's it's no wonder they got huge
Same here. Saw the performance Side of the Bullet from their 'Live at Sturgis' concert and had automatic respect for them
I randomly listened to that song this past November, but I had no idea it was about Dimebag!!! That's awesome they made a tribute for him
@@rad_iguana64 an the solo...was fine dimebag
@@NintenDub the tone and style is so undeniably him ay. So grateful to Rita for letting them have it. And it fits so perfect

Funny because I assume that trend only made them more money 💀
They were overplayed but from what I remember, it was songs like SEX and Animals that were just a little too on the nose and cemented them as a kind of pop rock band, who, with songs like Rockstar, were trying too hard to be actual rock stars. They stood for an hour and chatted. Haven’t even watched yet, but that already earned my respect.
The interview I never knew I needed… I was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did, well done gentleman, well done.
Love the endings when Nardwuar does the stance to assert DOMINENCE lol
This being respectful makes the strokes interview stand out even more
Well the strokes are just a group of rich kids. Can’t expect them not to be spoiled . 😂
the strokes are overrated

This is genuinely your most surprising guest.
Not for Canadian viewers, many who are thinking "What took so long?".
Nardwaur single handedly healing the divide in our nation

one of the best interviews ever!! big respect to nickelback for being fellow nardheads!

You can hear them lean on their accents a little bit more than usual. Always fun to take people down memory lane
Likely because they’re being interviewed by a Canadian, too. Total Alberta accent.
Haven't seen these guys in an interview before but I was impressed by how nice and well, canadian they are
This interview is now in my top 10. Really chill dudes
chad was always so kind to my mom, me & my sister when we’d show up to their shows when she was a young mom
God please never let Nardwuar leave this planet. The best person ever
We don't deserve this at all. Amazing interview.
Great interview, I might even say the best interview with them like ever. Been a fan since 98
Saw these guys about 10 years ago in concert, went to see daughtry, very glad these guys were headlining. Super entertaining show. Chad can play the guitar!
Love or hate them, this is excellent!
totally! Would love to just sit down with them and listen to the stories, you bet they have some wild ones.
Their music sucks but they seem like great guys

They’re Nickelback, he has to know!
When the guests have fun and are respectful to nardwuar it makes me like them much more
man i always loved their music, never got all the memes against them during the rage comics era but i'm glad they're at least happy today
Wow love love love the long form. Hope more artists will give the goat 60+ min
Chad looks like he is cosplaying Chris Evans’ character from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. That is not a bad thing.
