    when danya talked about the alapin being misrepresented the caro kann also comes to mind (both c6/c3 d5/d4), it's thought of as a very sturdy, positional defense, and it can be, but with modern lines the opening becomes very exciting with variations e.g. in the mainline where the play becomes incredibly imbalanced

      Yeah. One thing is that you loose easily just because you didn't think about consequnces. And it's very different when you thought about it, but other continuations did not look pretty too. I guess that's what is happening when strong players loose, and it must be a different feeling.

    Hi Danya,
    I’ve been absolutely loving the speedrun videos! The post-game analysis of the games are extremely helpful.
    I was wondering if you could do a full opening video of each of your opening recommendations (of the ones you played at the start of the speedrun and the ones you play now)? I know you go over some of the theory during the analysis but I think an in-depth video of each of the openings could be very useful. A bit similar to you “GM Naroditsky’s opening lab” videos you did on the Danish gambit and the King’s gambit.

  • @DavidEmerling79
    @DavidEmerling79 Před 5 měsíci

    The "trick" where 5.Bb5+ provokes 5...Bd7 leading to the possible line that you prooose: 6.Bc4 Nb6, 7.Bxf7+ Kxf7, 8.e6+ Bxe6, 9.Ng5+ Kf6 (best), 10.Qf3+ is perfectly defensible for black. As you said, white does not get a winning position from this line. In fact, Stockfish gives black a very, very slight advantage. White gets no big advantage other than getting a position that seems easier to play.
    However, I think this line could have a big psychological impact on the black player if he's unfamiliar with this line. Any time the bishop comes crashing into f7 with check, sacrificing itself, it is unnerving - especially if black has to play 9...Kf6. Black has to be thinking that this is bad for him - although, it's really not.

      King's Indian Defense of course he made a ton of videos about it facing different variations from white. He also recommended Grunfeld at some point and it's really not THAT hard to play and leads to dynamic positions. If you are a tactical player play those two, if you are more positional stick to QGD.
