    Understanding welding distortion/shrinkage how it works and how to make shrinkage work for me instead of against me has really helped me get better at welding and building welding projects and reduce distortion I still need a lot of learning to do but I will do it and get it perfectly right. I plan on going to college for welding soon if God allows me to attend and graduate Welding College with a few Welding Certificates under my belt. I love your content dude, I love you, I encourage you brethren. I'm building a chicken coop and my frame got distorted because I tried to rush and weld as fast as I could and shrinkage beat me. I left it distorted I couldn't fix it as I leveld out the legs and put supports on them thats when I did research on CZcams watched a video of Guestz and, a few others, it talks about metal warpage I learned from it alot. I did tak welds around the roof during the cold and when I grinded them smooth I noticed quite a few of them were cracked and I watched your video about preheating pipeline pipe so to reduce the chance of getting weld cracks I commented your CZcams channel name and what I learned from you on Austin Ross CZcams channel comment section. Not that you asked for my advise or any tips I just wanted to share with you some of my knowledge so God will blesses me with some more of his Godly wisdom. God blesses those who bless you and curses those who curse you. Mad love peace out.

    do you experience sensitive arc blow with that setup ? again a "detail " question : I have seen many pipe welder bending their rod 90 or almost. Is it to have a better aim as the stinger is not in the way then ?

  • @kellypenrod2979
    @kellypenrod2979 Před 4 lety

    I have a question.
    Was at a new gas plant to install a couple of cattle guards, and was watching an old boy doing some roll out work and noticed him dipping his rods in a bottle of water before welding with them.
    Never saw that before, and I got busy, by the time I got my job done he was gone and I didn't get to ask him about that.
    Now, I have had it beat into my head for years about keeping your rods dry, so is this something new?
    Primarily I just do structural work, and hard facing.
    But ya learn something new every day if your paying attention.
    Stay safe out there my brother's!

      My father in law has mentioned a couple times that the red hypi rod 7010 will run better if you will dump a little bit of water I. Your hand and every time you grab a rod just swipe through it. I’ve never done it but this is what he used to do.

    So what is the better way to do it? My school has been teaching us to whip it and come out of our key hole and bring it back into the puddle. But just about every other video I’ve watched they’re dragging the rod instead. Which way gets better build up? Build up has been killing me. My beads are looking real nice and consistent but I’m not getting enough build on the back side.

    Wonderful ! what is the music ?
    Huge lowering of amps, I have seen going from 100A to 50 (I suppose that not all machines will allow this). All the slag inside ?
    The eyes just on the puddle, really , you need to look that near ? (because of the gap may be not necessary when doing other type)
    THe lead, one need to get acquainted to its weight, when holding the stinger that way near the rod the lead have a huge leverage on the stinger , I thought that with the lead falling that way you are obliged to balance its weight by holding the stinger lower .(as you do also with that still long rod and one hand ;) does it count as one of your little "details" ,
    Many questions, I apologize but I ma really interested in understanding the details of the process (not that I have any chance to be a pipe welder someday I am in a totally different work)
    "You got to practice !"I dont trust that ;) Thanks for that vid .

I retired in 2015 after 47 years in the metal trades. I've been blessed to cover a lot of ground in that time. Teaching can be very rewarding; start with a good foundation.
