    I’d like an introduction to drag racing series like how to stage, how to cut a good light , what’s good etiquette stuff like that . I’d like to get into drag racing but I don’t wanna be that guy .

      Everyone is 'that Guy/Gal' when they first start racing and IMO no matter how many suggestions you get it'll take a couple of runs before any suggestions will even sink in (98+% of what anyone tells you will fly out the window when your getting ready to make your first run(s)).
      I suggest watching from the starting line and pay attention to how the good races do their burnouts and staging routine...

    All you need is a factory cut key and it won't fall out... take your keys to your local locksmith and support your local community and spend 10 bucks and have them cut you a factory cut key... if you can pull your key out of the ignition while it is on this is HIGHLY recommended!

    I have a buddy that had this happen in a civic. Wasn't a race car or anything, just a daily driver. He had a key lanyard that got caught on something and pulled the key out of the ignition which locked the wheel. Luckily he was able to stop the car in the middle of the road, get the keys loose, and get them back in the ignition

    I've got a thirdgen Camaro with headers and the steering is sloppy making me think the rag joint is going out. I need to keep my stock column cause I use all those features, but I would love to upgrade the stock parts from the firewall to the steering box, do ya'll have something for me?

    Aren't stock steering columns designed to crush in an impact so they don't impale you? Don't you completely remove that safety feature with these aftermarket steering columns?

      You should have a harness anyway. So it doesnt matter if its solid or not.

      Without a cage and harness you're absolutely right. The standard column is collapsible to you don't get speared by it. With a cage and harness it isn't a problem

      @@thomasward4505 Please find me an example. I've seen racecars wreck at 200mph, never seen or heard of an accident with the steering column. If you are strapped in your harness like you should be, its irrelevant. If it was a problem, they would be collapsible obviously...

      Some of the race columns still have a collapsible section. But, if the car has a full cage and the column is properly mounted they tend to not move much. The factory ones need to be collapsible because the car is designed to crush a lot so the column can move much farther if it didn’t collapse.

    rag joints haven't been around since the 80's and an aftermarket column alone isn't going to fix that. You can replace the steering shaft under the hood to solve that.
    I can see weight savings and the looks factor, but safety? Hard sell.
    Sure, love cleetus and James, but let's pump the brakes here on buying the coolaid

      Lots of rag joints in 90s and 2000s cars. The video is about much more than the intermediate shaft. Keep watching next time

    key falls out and turns back to the lock position while going down that bumpy high vibration race track, and you can't steer.

      Simply will NOT happen. If the lock is worn out the key may fall out,, but it will not turn itself off.

    Um doesnt the ignition itself need to be turned back for the wheel to lock? I've owned a few old GMs where you could pull the key out while it's running and nothing happened.

I was personally concerned , a shear pin on the u joint would put my mind at ease a little haha , I’ve heard stories of back in the 60s people getting impaled on them .

      It actually doesn’t make it dangerous. Hundreds of crashes on drag strips and other racing styles with non collapsible columns every year without collapsible columns and people are safe and healthy afterwards.

      Ive never seen a collapsable column, even stock ones are rigid but the stock steering shafts are as should any aftermarket one used

      @@young11984 Look again. Stock columns are made to collapse and detach from the dash in the event of a crash. Race columns do neither.

    Only thing stopping me from going to a race column is losing the key and I can’t find a decent kit to relocate the key somewhere else. Most of the aftermarket keys look like they belong on a forklift and I’m not a fan of it. I like racestatus’ setup with the key on the aftermarket column. I worry I’ll take the car to get groceries and with no key it won’t be in the Parking lot when I get done lol

      Not really, there' s a huge difference between a stock column and a race-purpose built one. Lots of slop in a stock column will eventually show up you just can't eliminate.
