@@JayHowieMusicOfficial You have to understand that I haven't played in years and I never learned to read music. However, I do enjoy your videos and and talents. My comment was meant in jest, aimed at my ignorance not yours.
Haha so was mine mate. All good!
Hi Jay, love your playing and have stolen a couple of your versions Robert CRAY and others. Nice playing and thank you for your time in this video.
That’s awesome mate! I’m glad you could have some inspo for different ways to play things! I’m super glad you liked the lesson too!!
I really wish guitar teachers would stop calling these riffs " tricks " as the word trick implies something shady or underhanded. Go ahead, call me the grammar police if it makes you feel better but words have meaning and I believe that meaning should be respected. I you have to call them something besides licks or riffs how about techniques, it's a better term than tricks anyway and it makes you sound more intelligent. 😊
Hey mate! I absolutely appreciate what you’re saying. I would say that this lesson isn’t about the riffs or the licks but more about altering something slightly to ‘trick’ the ears. When you are in the mindset of a minor pentatonic (which is probably most players first scale), simply changing one note can ‘trick’ the ears into making it sound major. For example, another ‘trick’ I teach new players when they are learning chords is to play only the bottom 3 strings and get their fingers moving around and getting use to the movements then once they have done got that down add a string etc. This is a ‘trick’ to make them still feel like they’re playing music but they’re still progressing at the same time. It’s the same with this lesson, if players are stuck in the pentatonic box this ‘trick’ can help them to stay with what they know but also break out of the box.
I wouldn’t call this a technique either. I would probably relate the term technique more towards things like alternate picking, hammer ons, slides etc.
As I said, I do appreciate exactly what you’re saying though! Thanks for watching!
Stay Positive, Mate!!!
