At the first time we heard this song, it's sounds so relaxing. But actually the song is just hide its malice. As the story goes on, this song more and more sounds like "Keep dreaming, and don't ever wake up back again to reality" which fit perfectly with what's going on the shows.
Completely on point analysis. Totally agree. Maromi was constantly trying to convince Tsukiko to not focus on the 'bad stuff' which was reality. Maromi and Shonen Bat are representation of the the temporary salvation. They may work out for some time, but they are not the solution to the problem.

This song is so simple, but when seeing what it represents. It's like a slow decent into madness. Like playing with your dog, then seeing it get ran over in front of you.
I noticed that Maromi says in this song is: ただいま ババイ (Tadaima. Babai.) which means, "I'm home. Good bye." I think those words were spoken by Shonen Bat too. Episode 1: "Tadaima." ("Hello again." in subs. Literal translation: I'm home.) Episode 13: "Sayonara" (Goodbye.) This is a foreshadowing, right? Edit: fixed those errors
I find it relieving too. Kind of like that relief each "victim" went through after dealing with Shonen Bat. They had all kinds of grief which somehow summoned Shonen Bat and he literally beat it out of them.
I found it a bit confusing, but very enjoyable, shows that leave you fuzzy after the ending are always going to watched again, finished Monster (Best anime I watched so far) and it still hasn't worn off.
One of the most coolziest and trippy anime Ive ever seen. Imagine the Twilight Zone had an ending like this kind of music after each episode. The melancholic flare of this in the backdrop of pain and sadness of the episodes
@@leafyclass it's such a shame Satoshi Kon had to pass early in life...if he was still alive, who knows what awesome art he would have created for us....
Carlos Mena I feel beyond individual physical choices, it is simply random and chaotic, for better or worse. It rains, it snows. things thaw and freeze Oceans crash and forests burn. As such, life is preserved, recycled, fertilized. So it grows, purifies, and lives to surf another day. Even if that life isn't us tomorrow.
Remrie Arrie Sometimes I feel like there is no such thing as right or wrong but a matter of faith. Like how much faith you were willing to have. I think that is what decides the future. And our children will read our history in all its light thru films, books, music, etc. It doesn't matter if you were right or wrong but how much faith you were willing to have. I'mma try to explain this anime and it's super unexpected ending: The lie about what happened to the first victim's dog materializes because Maromi was an idea formed upon the incident with the artist's own dog's death. Everyone loved Maromi, so the idea of this character stemming from the incident that was lied about gained enough fame to become something. Just like a god in Japanese traditions, the more people pray for it, the more real and material it seems to become. This anime takes that logic to this sort of level. But this is Maromi we're talking about that became the one prayed for, right? Well, that's true, but the monstrous demon boy with golden skates/bat has taken advantage of the fact that the artist for Maromi remembered of the incident she made up to make up the Maromi drawing. The golden bat takes advantage of his slight involvement in the incident that she reminisced on to make Maromi, to then become the something she wished would remove all her stress. Detectives get these details out of her to be leaked into the public. Popularity over Shonen Bat grows exponentially until he's a common killer or injurer. At some point the popularity of Shonen Bat and Maromi are at war with eachother, Shonen Bat becoming a demon misrepresented as an evil deity, and Maromi becoming a god of protection somewhat. The limit hits when the greatness of Shonen Bat overflows into the city. Maromi does what they can to protect the detective and the girl who invented them. Maromi uses the power of popularity to take everything that represented the look of Maromi and used it to create a world that Shonen Bat could not go. The detective can't take the fact that they forgot this disaster and live in a fake world. The hard truth, the big picture, is sometimes the best thing to look at. The girl and detective run through the city, trying not to get crushed by the lie that has built up so much. At some point she knows they'll die so she admits it out loud, and uses her truthful remarks of the past to defer the existence of Shonen Bat. This is what the demon of the lie wanted all along and left the material world.
Because Shonen Bat was the concept of being done with a horrendous and life-engraving subject. People have horrendous and/or life-engraving moments or times, and wanting to get away from it any way they can is the rhythm Shonen Bat lives off of.
Sasuke Uchiha People who are cornered tend to hurt theirselves or wanna commit suicide. Some people hurt themselves in this series, some die. Japanese people are real.... suicidal. Ever heard of that suicide forest..?
Sasuke Uchiha Think about it this way. Every person shonen bat kills who are cornered have very logical explsinations to how they die, or get horribly injured. Refer back to the second lie told by the main character. Shonen bat didn't break her leg, she broke it with a pipe. This logic suggests that most of the cornered will inflict self harm to become a victim or even commit suicide to get away from their anxieties. Shonen bat becomes both a physical manifestation of mass paranoia and the wishes of the cornered to escape.
The ending left me in awe, and I heard this song at the outro and I thought, oh man that was intense and just a twist! I have a theory but man this show was awesome and this was the song that's started to bring back the memories of watching it.... Ahh Memories....

that's some really great work by Susumu Hirasawa to pay attention to the story like that.
"Tadaima" acutally means "I'm home."
I've been trying to figure out what was being said through the distortion for a while now. Thanks for clarifying, I can definitely hear it now.
For the purpose of the story I think that translating "tadaima" to "I'm back" will fit better. Also for the original meaning, just returned to home.
This theme is absolutely perfect. It's as psychotic as it is calming and peaceful, just like the show.
