Every Sunday afternoon my Dad and I would slice potatoes paper thin and cook them on top of the wood stove. Used no fat, just the potato. You cannot imagine the taste of them. That was our special time. He made time for me. Loved him beyond any words that could be spoken. Matt and Tipper you bring such joy to this ole lady. Thank you.❤

I have to believe my grandmother faith is what got that woman through her tough life!! It had to be her faith she read her bible every night!! My grandmother got up early to make the fire made the best hot coca that I have not tasted since !! My grandmother cooked all her meals on the old cook stove they were amazing!! I hope she has a special place in heaven she certainly deserves that!!

Thats the way I grew up! Sounds alot like my life. We never had inside plumbing. No water, no bathroom either. Momma cooked on a Wood Stove and it heated the house at the same time. We'd take a bath in big old round Washtub out back or either in the creek in the summer. In the winter we'd use what we called a Foot Tub! Had to draw water from the Well and heat on the stove for Cooking, washing dishes, taking baths, washing clothes, etc... Anything you needed water for had to be drawed out the Well. There were 13 of us and never was a slow rest day for Daddy, Momma or us older kids. I was next to the oldest. I had a brother older than me. Me being the oldest girl, my work was never done! I scrubbed many a diapers on a scrub board outside the house. I've worked my whole life. Now, my work days are gone. I'm enjoying my Great Grandchildren! God Bless. 🙏❤👏😁

When I was young my family stayed in my grand mother's cabin all summer , my father came up on the weekends, my beloved mother was a master at cooking on a wood stove , the smells still radiate in my senses especially during these holidays, we also had a puffer belly stove outside to heat hot water for bathing . I'm 73 now and still dream about helping my mom in our cabin kitchen bake bread everyday and prepare meals , I love my current appliances, but wish I would get a chance some day to give my children and grand , great grandchildren the joy of a true family life with no phones etc ❤❤❤

My dad had a heavy construction company when I was growing up so his day started before dawn. In the winter he would get a fire roaring in the fireplace then wake us kids up for school. I remember being soooo cold and running into the living room to warm first the front then the back - then run back into the bedroom to get dressed. I never did ask why it had to be so cold in the house. We just never questioned our folks.

I never turn it on, it’s set off in case internet goes out and I need to see something on news or weather/local station. I get like 18 channels. All major networks, couple pbs stations, various movie type channels. Haven’t checked in a long time, it’s a dust collector. I got the antenna online for like 30-45.00, wasn’t much.

Good morning to Tipper and Matt, just wanted to say when I saw Matt make his pressed coffee in the garage I about fell off my chair. I was thrilled to know that another person has discovered the amazing flavor of pressed coffee. It truly elevates the coffee to another level of texture and taste. I make my own pressed coffee as well and have described the texture as velvety and the taste is beyond compare to regular brewed coffee.
Then to watch him very obviously enjoy that amazing cup of coffee and make the comment that he hadn’t had such a good cup in a while ……….. just made my heart happy. Kudos to you, Matt. Would love to have a cuppa pressed coffee with you and Tipper around the woodstove one of these days.
You all remind me of my upbringing so much, GOD bless you all.

Back when I was growing up in the late 1940s, 1950s, and early 1960s, Mother and Dad had a wood stove going in the early Spring, late Fall, and most of the Winter. They also had a propane range. Mother would put pots of beans or soup on the wood stove cooking or teakettles boiling away. Baking and other cooking was on the propane stove. This gave wonderful smells and saved money because what was cooked on the wood stove did not use propane. With 47 1/2 acres of woods there was always downed and dead trees that needed to be cleared away to keep the woods healthy. Therefore, a wood stove made good sense.

My grandmother on my dad's side had a wood stove in the front yard that she cooked on in the summer so the house wouldn't heat up. She always had a big pot of green beans with red potatoes and/ or a big pot of corn on the cob. So good. She did her canning on that stove too. On my mom's side - all her stepmom ever cooked on was a wood stove. She made the best biscuits and gravy I ever have had anywhere was cooked by her on that stove. Precious memories...

When I was a child, my gram had a farm, I stayed with her often, for weeks at a time. My great uncle lived there in a little cabin and heated and cooked with a wood stove. A full size stove where you would lift the burners to add wood. I loved that cabin and ate many grilled cheese sandwiches and bowls of soup from that stove. Those were such good, happy years, those years on that farm. Chickens and every fruit tree we could grow, lots of corn and tomatoes and other vegetables... so good.

My parents had a woodstove in their house in Taylorstown, VA. They mostly used it for heating the kitchen, not sure they ever cooked on it. The dogs used to love lying near that stove. Their Jack Russell Terrier would actually end up underneath the stove, which we wouldn't notice until she would come out a little later panting and wanting to cool off.

My momma cooked on a wood stove for 30 years, it was so hot in the summer. I was the lead child in gathering wood for it. My dad passed away and I had four siblings younger than myself so I dropped out of school and went to work in a textile mill and bought her an electric stove on the payment plan. We also moved to a better house with running water when before we drew it from a well with a bucket, rope and tickle.

Growing up in the 80s my family spent many weeks every summer in my granny's small cottage. It did have electricity, but no running water, no freezer and no toilet indoors. Every morning granny lit the fire in the wood stove, because in Sweden it often gets chilly and rainy in the summer, and she always had a big pot with hot water on the stove. Outside there was a well with red iron tasting water and an outdoor toilet with lots of spiders in it. Every two weeks a man came with his truck to collect the poo bins from each family in the area, and my sister and I always thought he must have the worst job ever 😂 Good times 🏡

My grandparents cooked on the wood stove, especially in winter. Good times. Always had a pot of beans cooking.

Lol, yep the stool and minding / fixing breakfast pre-elementary school and beyond. Everyone pitched in and did what needed doing. But I also remember Marathon pancake breakfast with my cousins and us packing it away and my mother kept making pancakes until we couldn't eat another bite - but we were quiet for the next hour or so anyway 😂. Ah, the fifty's🙂

Early American is the hearth cooking channel. I enjoy watching it too. Gran cooked soups, stews and oatmeal on the wood stove. Everything else was on her modern gas stove lol

You are bringing back fond memories. One of my favorite was my grandma and aunt making the best apple pies in a wood stove oven. I never did find out how many logs they used to keep the right temp for an hour to cook a pie!

Like a picnic!!! I didn't realize the stove had a cooking surface. Such neat gagets Matt has! Was wondering where the coffee grounds would go. It's like a french press
The crunch on the toast!!? White bread perfectly browned
I was really impressed with how well the cast iron pan was seasoned!!! The sausage didn't stick at all!!! I would have to put something soft on the floor for that nap
The comfort of the heat and the sounds of wood crackling, the smell of the wood
    Pure Bliss!!!!

Your woodstove breakfast looked so wonderful! I agree, it would be such a learning curve to figure out how to cook completely on a woodstove when we are so used to electric or gas. Loved listening to you two reminisce with old stories and sharing your afternoon with us. 🙂

We are friends with the Mennonite community near us ,they don’t have electricity and they cook on wood stove but in the summer they take their stove outside on a cement porch that has a roof ,much like a garage. They cook wonderful food as I have experience many times! I really enjoy having them as friends! We have learned much from each other!

We live in a total electric house and when my oldest was a baby we got an ice storm that knocked power out for over a week. We had to leave but vowed it would never happen again. Bought a wood burning stove and it has saved us a couple times.
Your videos are my favorite on CZcams. They make me happy 😊

I like to stay busy, too. I work as a project manager from home during the week. That is a sit down job, so on my lunch breaks I do my house cleaning. I’m able to free up my weekend time by doing that. My rest time is when I can sew. I like to do cross stitch, embroidery, general sewing and I am teaching myself to quilt. I can watch movies, CZcams or listen to audiobooks books while I sew. I am not interested in just sitting and watching TV. I just didn’t grow up like that.

The youtube channel I think you were talking about is named "Early American". I enjoy watching them as well. We also have dutch ovens and cook over an open fire outside. Dutch ovens are so universal. You could cook a three-course meal and dessert. Losing power in the summer or winter you can always depend on a dutch oven.
Thanks for sharing your Sunday night video!
