How to Create an Art Studio Oasis on a Budget/Art Studio Makeover

From cluttered mess to art studio oasis. Setting up a home art studio can be an exciting and rewarding project. In this video I take you on a step by step art studio makeover and how to set up an art studio in a small space. I cover both art materials and equipment and things to consider when setting up your very own art studio oasis. Enjoy and take an art studio tour.
Time to do some spring cleaning.
Here's a basic list of materials and considerations to help you make your own art studio.
Basic Art Supplies:
• Drawing and Sketching:
• Sketchbooks
• Drawing/watercolour paper
• Pencils (various softness and hardness HB , B, 2B)• Blending stump
• Colour pencils
• Erasers
• Charcoal
• Oil pastels
• Soft pastels/ pan pastels

• Painting:
• Acrylic paints
• Oil paints
• Watercolour paint
• gouache paints
• Paintbrushes (variety of sizes and shapes)
• Paint palette
• Palette knife
• Paint palette
• Canvas or canvas boards

• Drop Cloth
• Paper towel
• Apron
Studio essentials:
• Easel
• Desk easel
• Lighting: Natural light / desk lamp
• Storage: Shelves, drawers, storage containers
• Cabinets larger items.
• Bookshelf
• Table or desk
• Decorative items items ie. plants, artwork
Considerations:
• Space:
• Assess the available space and plan accordingly. Make sure you have enough room to move around comfortably.
• Comfortable Seating:
• Invest in a comfortable chair, especially if you plan on spending extended periods in your studio.
• Workflow:
• Organize your space to facilitate a smooth workflow, with easy access to frequently used materials.
• Budget:
• Determine a budget for your art studio and prioritize essential items first.
• Flexibility:
• Design your studio in a way that allows for flexibility in terms of rearranging and accommodating new art projects.
Remember that your art studio is a personal space, so customize it to suit your preferences and creative needs.

Great information. I had to take a second look at the date here because the shelves in most of the stores in my part of the world look very, very sparse, nothing like the selection & variety shown in your stores. Thanks to inflation and internet shopping, there may be three baskets, two metal tubs and a few plastic bins available…if we’re lucky! So these days I’m making do with what I have and praying for better times and a better world.
Hi @sharongates4699 , things are also getting more and more expensive here. A great activity here in spring and summer are garage and yard sales. I have found so many useful pieces for my creative endeavors, things that people just don't want anymore. My latest was a large desk top easel for just a few dollars. Nice job! The problem of too many options is a well known one.. I am constantly reorganizing the smaller things. Especially after I went to the art supply store and need to make room for the new babies ;-)

Thank you.After an accident I have an aquired brain injury so it is very hard to be organised.I love to re use and recycle but i have ended up with boxes and boxes!I found your video very helpfull,although i stat away from plastics I suppose sometimes it can help when on a not alot of money situ!Apreciate your soothing voice and music also.BLESSINGS.

P.s. I agree with you on plastics. The good news is that Steralite manufacturers state that their products are recyclable (back into hard plastics) and PVCs, Latex, Teflon, Phthalate Chemicals, fungicides, Bishphenol A (BPAs), or antibacterial chemicals are not used.😀

Looks great! My sister just visited and helped me organize my basement. I still have to go through all my craft and art supplies to pare them down. It's a lot of work. You've given yourself many different options too!
