I had a auto machine shop back in the 90’s. I always wanted a Sunnen cylinder hone. I had a Serv-Equip. It worked, but it took some effort. My best was +-.0002 maybe 3. For those SB Chevy’s I would take my angle grinder and grinder back / relieve the little inch or so at the bottom of the cylinder, where it meet the main web. That really seemed to help keep the bottom of the cylinder round. Stones did bang into it. I know the rings didn’t travel in that area, but.....OCD I guess.

When I was hone shopping, I looked at the Servo-Equip, Axe and Kwikway machines. I had only ever run the CK10's at this point and knew nothing of the other machines. Them being a lot cheaper really had my attention and I asked my Instagram buillders I follow who have them how they liked them. Nobody had any complaints about them so I was damn near sold. But in the end I spent more and picked up the 616. It came fairly well tooled and ready to run so I had no regrets and since it operates tje same as the CK10 there was no learning curve. I bought mine off Ebay and had it shipped from PA, USA to me on the Canadian West coast. Not a lot of used options here in Canada for automotive machines.

Your in Canada of Pennsylvania? Let me know if you do a shop tour. I’ll watch it.

Your' right!, That casting shift makes it hard to hone an engine block with a CV616, and I can't remember how many times I've sent an engine out hoping that a piston never gets stuck. Now I grind them out with my MAC die grinder.

Just like my CV616. Although I was hoping to get myself a white model, I am quite happy with my green one. Nice video. Sub'd🍻

I love my CV616 machine, and yesterday I just placed my recently acquired Rottler FA1AB right across from it - trying to make my CV's job easier. Sucks that only six people responded to this video, and it'll suck worse when we see these beautiful machines being used in Pakistan on some other youtube show.

Hello, how do you adjust the dwell point or depth when there is a smaller or tapered part of the cylinder and you want all of the cylinder to be true?

    • @jamesjacobs1909

It's simple, with a set of 820 stones keep the load under "20" and dwell the bejesus out of it till it evens up with the rest of the bore. If you are working on an older Chevy block keep in mind the casting shift, and remove material at the bottom forcing that taper.
