Dr. Mindy, please do not forget to be inclusive of women over 70. How can we take care of ourselves at the later stage of life? Much appreciate your wealth of information.
I went through fertility treatments with my ex husband (as an obese woman). Nothing worked. I wasn't ovulating and when we stimulated ovulation my uterine lining was too thin for implantation. Fast forward a couple years. Divorced. Remarried. Carefree thinking I just CANNOT get pregnant. I start IF to lose weight. THE VERY NEXT MONTH I was pregnant. When my daughter was 8 months old I decided to get back into fasting. Next month I was pregnant AGAIN. Dr. Mindy Pelz 5 friends were NOT an anomaly!
Did you have regular periods ? I just had one and I hope I get another one next month. I have had one for a long time. Not sure if fasting made it apear again…
Since Oct 2021 I have done 18 to 22 hour fasts with extended fasts to 90 to 100 hour fasts with lemon and lime water, Himalayan salt, zinc, potassium and magnesium supplements and do fine. 70 year old male, no joint pain or any pains. Mindy, u r great!!! U😅
As a woman I have never had any problems doing the intermittent fasting every day but with this new insight I'm gonna try to change it up a bit and see what happens. I am not doing this for weightloss so I do not feel frustrated with food or anything but I am going to be looking at these different phases of my cycle now. Thank you so much for doing this for women! Health podcasts I watch are mostly based on men so this is very helpful
I was looking for any info on women who do not have a cycle anymore which is lovely and also want fasting as a part of life. I’m 65 and and looking for health benefits as well.
I’ve started 18, 24, 32 hr fast, I don’t eat after 5-6pm and have my first meal sometimes at 11 or 12.00, 2pm or 4pm. Also, I’ve tried 48hr fasting and it wasn’t easy 😅 , I was looking forward to my dinner; black coffee helps through fasting. I’ve noticed already great benefits, weight loss around tummy and energy increase. Long (2hrs )walks on nature helps as well, fortunately I live by the sea; I do rope skipping 150-200 repetitions 3-4 days a week. I believe that at the beginning fasting feels harder but it gets better after our body used to it 😀

This is very helpful, thank you for doing this podcast! I have been trying to figure out if intermittent fasting were for me or not and how I can make it work and not lose lean muscle mass. Max, I saw you interviewed by Marissa Streit and was thinking while listening there as well... You might look up Sue Becker with Bread Beckers. I think you would find what she has to say interesting. She has done years of personal research (not lab) into changes in the food industry with milling at the turn of the last century and it's effects on the population. The amazing nutritional resource that bread can be with wheat that is freshly milled. We ordered a little countertop mill last year. It remained on back order and it was then that I found a few talks by Sue and felt so grateful we were making this change at home. Since milling our own grain for bread, it is incredible the difference in how we feel and even the lack of adverse reactions we experience when eating processed grains. You wouldn't believe how different bread baked with freshly ground grain tastes than even the most expensive, high quality whole grain bread from the store. It is soft, not bitter.... tastes like a meal almost rather than a side. Even than buying whole grain flour and baking it yourself. I was trying to bake with whole grain wheat flour before the mill arrived. It would turn out more dense and little bitter. The freshly milled flour is completely different. I feel the same with food we recently received from a CSA. The whole milk tastes way different than organic whole milk from the store much more fat and the flavor is just so good. Even the spinach, sweet and full of flavor, more than organic spinach we have been ordering even from programs designed to avoid food waste. It just makes you wonder how much we have been missing out on and really, the damage that has been done concerning our mindsets regarding "healthy" food. Please look up Sue. i would love to see her interviewed by someone like you, with your background. Thank you again for this podcast. These are questions I have been wondering about for a couple of years now.
LOVE Dr Mindy! Thanks for having her on! And some women do indeed bleed 10 days...😢 At 67 (and childless) I am obviously done, but I had not only the worst cramps every month that I was not on the pill, I bled a full 8 to 10 days. Then at age 40 thru about 55, I cycled every 21 days. So I was on my period nearly half the time. Between 55-57 my period became less and seasonal till gone altogether. Going on the pill was all anyone could offer me. Which I of course didn't want, and continued to try for pregnancy to the bitter end!
I am a profoundly overweight human. At my peak, I was 375. I was always health conscious but I am also an addict. Food being the last addiction I have yet to overcome. I started messing with vegan about 10 years ago and then WFPB about 4 years ago. During my peak time of being WFPB k dropped to just above 300. 302, to be exact. My blood sugar during this time went haywire and I wound up with pre-diabetes. (Im 38 now. This is was when I was 35). You want to know what is WFPB? oatmeal, pure maple syrup, brown sugar. My typical breakfast when I was WFPB. I always felt like doodoo for hours after that. My weight went back up to 350. With fasting I am back down to 310 since January and just started a 30 commitment to 36 hour fasting. The scale is moving, but the most important part is how I feel. I feel so much more clear.
I incorporate dry fasting (12-18 hrs) and find it makes a longer fast of 24-36 hours easier to move through and complete. I do think that if you’re not well hydrated (adding trace minerals/electrolytes) in general then dry fasting would not be a good idea. This was a great conversation. I’m a big of both of you. Dr. Mindy, I am loving your book. Thank you. 🙏 Max, you’re super awesome and very easy on the eyes. 😍 I very much appreciate all of the knowledge you bring to this space. Again, thank you both.
@@nellosnook4454 I don’t know if this question is directed specifically for me or for everyone but in my understanding amino acids (protein) would need to be broken down then absorbed into the body which would impact a clean fast so I wouldn’t include them during my fasting window. The idea is to give nothing to the body including water for short durations to allow the body to repair and utilize fat for energy. Trace minerals and electrolytes (as long as there is not added sugars) do not break a fast as amino acids would.

So this whole podcast was amazing but all I needed was the statistic of fasting for 24hrs increasing testosterone 2000%. I have fasted on and off for over a decade every other day fasting, i termityennt, 7 days, 3 days, even 30 day water fast but the best I have ever felt was when I did every other day fasting for a year. Now I know a big reason why. Thank you! Tomorrow I will start my every other day fasting.
Im with Max in that I try to eat the day before I need to be cognitive more present in a way that won't affect me negatively digestively. But as a woman I will start thinking about what Dr. Mindy says, too.
Well, I am a woman who's just stepped into menopause and I fast 18 hrs a day. I just feel good. I run 5 tines a week, do yoga etc. I am quite loving it. But I could use some info reg fasting rules for the like of us.
Need clarification please on LMNT product, so it is good for fasting phases? I see a couple grams of carb in them surely from the stevia, but that’s ok? And then please help with what kind of amino product or suggestion was being talked about. Thank you!!
Is it good to pass if you have osteoporosis? I wanted to do a three day fast and a friend of mine mention that it’s not good to do that. Please let me know.
What about women that have irregular periods? Any time that I get into ketosis, It really affects my cycle, As does any form of exercise.I think I'm very prone to stress. sometimes I won't have Have a period, Or will have a one day or two day thing And it's very late. If I am not dieting, exercising, or fasting, my periods are way more regular
Thank you so much for this useful interview & information especially for women. In Ramadan Women with period don't fast from day one till it ends. Also women who deliver babies "Dry fast" is forbidden for them.
I would like to narrow my search and the time involved in searching this topic. Is there a video anywhere strictly on postmenopausal fasting? .... or at the postmenopause point, are women the same as men?
I am postmenopausal, have been doing IF for 3 months, have shed 15 pounds so far. I've done a variety of ADF, 24, 36, 42 and 48 hour fasts. I don't have the raging diarrhea anymore, now that I'm refeeding correctly, and my gut is adjusting. But Wow, do I ever pee alot!! Will my system adapt eventually, or will I just need to stay close to the toilet forever while I'm fasting?
I have been fasting 22/2 for 4 months. I live in a nursing home so my diet is difficult to control. I'm living on salads and some form of protein. Very little carbs. I'm losing weight and my blood sugar is down from the 300s to 80 to 100. No longer on insulin or metformin. So what am I doing wrong? 🤔
That all sounds great but what if you've had a hysterectomy and you don't know what your cycle is? I've seen so many videos about this and nobody has discussed this and what to do. There are a lot of women who have this problem.
I had the sleeve done and lost 200lbs. Im now 57yrs young and haven't been able to get rid of the last 70 to 80lbs. Im 5'2 and 190 to 200lbs. I only eat 1meal a day to every 3days, makes me sick on my stomach to eat. So since i heard about fasting I think it would be more for me. I don't get how u figure out how long to fast, and what to eat when you do eat, how much, ect. Please help! Like to finally finish what I started, years ago.
I’ve done a 2 day dry fast for religious reasons and my bones started to ache, this was because I “heard” the body is breaking down calcium and toxins so I was told to drink something like Gatorade. It was tough but it paid off in my kids life.
Followed Mrs. Pelz for my fasting info and found she can be easily disputed especially her fasting timeline meme where her Sharpie did all her research.
As added information for all to know, Dr. Mindy Pelz is a doctor of Chiropractic medicine, not a medical doctor. I don’t know why she never mentions it.
You say that autophagy starts at 17 hours fast and have the peak about 72 hours but this is not true, in most people autophagy needs not less than 72/96 hours fast only for start and then if you want the benefit of autophagy you must maintain this state for no less than 48/72 hours more this is you need at less between six to seven days fasting for the autophagy benefits
The testosterone thing should be easy to prove with a simple blood test. Can you point me to a randomised clinical trial which substantiates your claim regarding men fasting and their boost in testosterone levels?
What does she base on to say that glucose is needed for progesterone production? Many women carnivores ans myself ( ketovore for 5 years) wouldn't tell you that we crave carbs in the second half of the cycle. If anything at all, I really crave fat, specifically butter. Also, logically why would you want to consume carbs in the context of insulin resistance? Ask yourself this question. From my research, actually progesterone affect glucose uptake and reduces insulin sensitivity, not that insulin resistance is required to make progesterone. The body knows best what to do, just feed it the proper human diet containing lots of fat and proteins, it will make the right amount of carbs as needed, especially important in the situation of insulin resistance since progesterone is in the scene. There is absolutely no need for you to interfere by adding carbs to the 2nd half of the cycle. You know why her message sells, it because majority of women are carb addicted so this gives a green pass to coming back to carbs. You may feel good temporarily ( i don't as I have zero craving for carbs at ANY points in my cycle), but it comes with the costs of compromising your success to achieve better metabolic health. All the best to all women out there!
Yep. I didn't even see this comment before I posted mine. All the research I have seen goes against what she tells women to do. It doesn't make any sense, really. When estrogen is up and insulin sensitivity is the environment, why on earth would you do keto or low carb? And when progesterone is high and insulin resistance is the environment, why would you EAT carbs? This is like telling people with type 2 diabetes to eat carbs. I am thoroughly confused. But hey... what the heck do I know? I don't have fancy letters after my name....
@@rachelkate1514 Not sure who you're asking, but I will jump in. I am not sure what Asprey recommends, but I don't think it's as simple as that for women. How I coach women is I keep a tight eye on their cycle weekly (I have data sheets where they upload LOTS of info) and adjust macronutrient profiles every week based on this. When estrogen is high (follicular phase) I bring carbs up (and fats down). When estrogen is tanked (luteal phase) I bring carbs down (and fats up). Proteins stay relatively static. Carb cycling isn't anything new, but it becomes more important on WHEN to do this with women who have a menstrual cycle. For men, things are much easier and the same rules don't apply.
You are not many women and you do not speak for all women. Sometimes, some of you act like cultists when you go into a particular diet and anyone with differing opinion becomes an enemy.
I want to hear more about women who don’t have cycle’s anymore as well. The monthly clock is harder to discern.

36 hour fasts once a week are great for me, at 53. I did used to suffer from lack of motivation.
Dr Mindy. I have the fast like a girl book but I didn't see any reference to an app you guys created! Would love to download it!
Love Dr Mindy, but right now the app is terrible.

Is this available woth accurate transcript somewhere? Llrsnkf typos on this and i prefer to read
What if your cycle is irregular and at times u get a really long period or frequent spotting?
Can I drink apple cider vinegar during my fast days let’s say in a mornings or I should drink it just after stopping fasting ?
@5:14 Should women fast during period. ❤
Teachings is good for the good ( Socrates).
If I drink cocoa instead of coffee with no cream and sugar, will is affect the ketosis
That all sounds great but what if you've had a hysterectomy and you don't know what your cycle is? I've seen so many videos about this and nobody has discussed this and what to do. There are a lot of women who have this problem.
How does someone lose weight/fat with Lipedema
Want about fasting for women who are postmenopausal I only heard women who have a menstrual
For years my infertility was a challenge. Not overweight and ate well made exercise took fertility stimulating injections and it just never happened
How does all this effect women who are in menopause? Like in their 60’s?
Can you fast during ovulation as well? Like doing a 24-hour fast.
She said nothing 17 hours or more then
I had the sleeve done and lost 200lbs.
P.S. Haven't had a period since I was 48, now 57yrs old, 58 in 5mos.
I’ve done a 2 day dry fast for religious reasons and my bones started to ache, this was because I “heard” the body is breaking down calcium and toxins so I was told to drink something like Gatorade. It was tough but it paid off in my kids life.
I swelled up in my ankles and face real bad. So I'm afraid to
Can seniors over 70 fast?
Dr Mindy menopausal women don’t have cycles??? How about us?
Yes, my thoughts too
@@leahparsons7907 I find this part of how to work out my cycle when I don’t have one extremely confusing
Do you consider aligning your "cycle" to the moon if post menopausal?
Followed Mrs. Pelz for my fasting info and found she can be easily disputed especially her fasting timeline meme where her Sharpie did all her research.
Some of us don’t have a victim mentality we just don’t have any money left after we pay the cost for shelter and utilities
What about women who have had a total hysterectomy
As added information for all to know, Dr. Mindy Pelz is a doctor of Chiropractic medicine, not a medical doctor. I don’t know why she never mentions it.
Women...fat is your pantry. You're not hording, you're prepping! :)😂😚🤔😘😘😘
Not true. I used to fast 23/1 or 20/4 and I had lots of autophagy
@@EncoreMama Really and how do you know that you are in authentic autophagy?

Looking for info on older women, not younger women. I'm an old lady.
The testosterone thing should be easy to prove with a simple blood test. Can you point me to a randomised clinical trial which substantiates your claim regarding men fasting and their boost in testosterone levels?
I don’t get it, fasting has helped me tremendously and I’m 53. I lost weight and have more mental clarity.

Hi! Is there anyway to assist the body in detox as you lose fat and the fat cells release the toxins? Sounds kind of scary lol
sauna & exercise:-)

When you fast you have to do every day a colon hydrotherapy or the home method enema

Check out her channel. One recommendation is to use activated charcoal during fasts.
Interesting..I’m still learning. Is this what Dave Asprey recommends? Protein and fat as opposed to carbs?

Will drinking beer break my fast? 🤔
Alcohol breaks down to sugar
Of, course. 🙄
