Thank you Joy! My oldest turns 8 this week and I've seen a lot of growth in her this past year in what she's capable of so I agree with age 7 being a "turn around" year!
This is so helpful! My children are all little, ages 5, 3 and 1 and I was wondering if you had anything for those ages? I feel like anything I ask them to do requires my supervision to keep them on task and is not really helping me much overall. Likely this is just an age thing, and with training gets easier, but my 5 year old already pushes back against doing anything to help and it is discouraging to try when I know it will be a fight. I'd appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!
Joy, you may have covered this in your other video that I haven’t had a chance to watch, but wondering if you pay kids for doing chores. I’ve gone back and forth on that issue over the years. Thanks in advance :)
We have a whole system for paying kids and helping them learn about money. We NEVER pay for daily run of the mill chores. But, if they are doing their regular chores and basic responsibilities, then they may do work for money. It's basically any job that is MY responsibility but they can technically do. Jobs in this category in our home include: cleaning my bathroom, dusting the baseboards, cleaning the van, mopping the floors, sweeping the porch. These jobs are also in out "consequence jar" so may not get paid for this work if they are earning back their freedom in some way. Hope this helps.
I like the idea of paying for jobs that are mine. We haven’t tried a consequence jar before, although I will give another job to a complainer. You hit it right though that I’m managing chores/help with them for those 5-10 minutes, for me they are young enough that they can’t do the work without supervision yet. Thanks!
