  • Is the Kia Seltos a good car? My wife, Evie, has driven a 2008 Honda CR-V ever since our daughter was born. It's served us reliably but it's time to buy my wife a new car. In this episode of What Should Evie Drive, Evie reviews a 2021 Kia Seltos that happens to be owned by my mother.

      I loved a car so much, I could only drive when visiting my sister. Darnit, she won the race to two of the cars I wanted. Oh well, then I got something no one would and surprisingly enjoyed it.
      So Evie, its a maybe, but the family have the same car dilemma.

    For what it is worth..I live in Manitoba -35 deg C (-31F) today. I have a 2021 Seltos EX Premium AWD. I have studded winter tires and have no problem starting and stopping on icy back roads and deep snow, so I would suggest you and your wife could feel confident driving in the mountains if you have good tires. The AWD system on the Seltos works proactively unlike some AWD systems that react only after wheel spin occurs. The Canadian models have a few extra standard features depending on trim level. The EX premium has features like a heated steering wheel,heated washer nozzles, safe exit assist,mud guards,carpeted floor mats,remote start. But we only get the black interiors. The MSRP for my car was $30,595.00 cdn. You did a great video full of fun and useful information plus no wine bottles were harmed in the making of it!

    • @MicahMuzio
      @MicahMuzio  Před 3 lety

      I love hearing from actual owners! Folks chronically underestimate the importance of tire choice. Studs would be overkill for us but it sounds like a Seltos on proper snow tires would work great. Hope you're staying warm up there. Cheers!

    I drive the S model, fwd with all the safety features and the 2.0 with a CVT. I'm 6'5" and have more than enough room in the drive side. I always drove Volvo so this had to be solid. Tightest turning radius of anything I've ever driven. Bonus is surfboards on a black Seltos looks so fine.

    @jonverda Před 3 lety

    The answer is easy. You're looking for something that isn't too fancy but has some nice touches. Something that has a little style all its own, and looks unique on the road. Something that fits a family, and can take you off-road without compromising on road. You're looking for something that won't break the bank. You drove the wrong Jeep. You need to look at a 2021 Jeep Cherokee (not Grand Cherokee) Trailhawk V6. It is all the vehicle anyone needs.

    Seems like a Bronco Sport would be a good pick. Decent power, not too big, some off-road ability. Feel like if that’s not enough you need to make a big jump up to body on frame vehicles like the Wrangler, 4Runner, or Bronco, which represents a pretty significant price and size jump.

    I notice in a lot of your videos that Evie has concerns about outward visibility when she drives. I reccomend the Subaru Forester - tall greenhouse/low beltline - super easy to see out of. Plus, it meets most of her other requirements- family friendly, mountain driving/snow/light off roading friendly, and a high safety rating with Subaru's Eyesight suite of safety features standard. As for the "cute" factor - any car is cute with Evie behind the wheel! (You're a lucky guy, Micah!)

    I don’t know how long this series will go on. I’ll be interested in see what Evie thinks of the upcoming Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage. I’m really excited for the Tucson hybrid.

    Honestly, the Seltos just might be a little too small for you guys. When the little Muzio gets slightly older and has 'stuff' for 'activities' that rear area might not be enough. If you like the Kia, maybe look to the Sportage? From what's been said, Kia has finally made the Sportage more competitive with the CRV/RAV4 interior space-wise and as the owner of a Sorento, I can say that Kia's AWD system is reliable and sure footed.

    10 year 100,000 powertrain warranty is a very nice plus.

    Maybe! But I wouldn't get the CVT. For me I am not a fan. But in the end it is Evie's choice.

    The Seltos seems like a solid option! There are better options though. I think the 1.6T with the 7 speed DCT have had some issues. I recommend you guys go with a Subaru. Either an Outback or Forester.

    Envíe should drive a CX-5 Turbo. Or a CX-9 turbo.

    If I were you, I would wait for Volkswagen Taos. It comes with new 1.5 Turbocharged mated to dsg that will provide quicker off the line, sportier driving in terms of dsg speaking and very fuel efficient. And almost compact size of rear legroom of Tiguan.

      How's VW reliability these days? Asking in all seriousness -- my last interaction with VW was the ignition coil issues back in the early 2000s, but I haven't kept track of how they've done since then.

      @@jonathankleinow2073 VW reliability has improved lately and top seller in Europe due to great fit and finish. Currently at 94k trouble-free on my Jetta. I occasionally top off on coolant since it is turbocharged which means it is higher compression engine. Other than that, it is awesome and pleasant to drive.
      As for ignition coil, suspension parts and stuff like that are wear and tear that must be replaced in time to ensure the longevity of the engine.

    Seems better than I was thinking it was going to be! Maybe she would like a mazda cx30 too if she can get past the body cladding that makes it look like a half dipped ice cream cone. I really enjoyed how it drove and the reliability of that powertrain is impeccable! (Although i think it does have cylinder deactivation in some or all trims which has been problematic for other brands). Great video!
