I love that you are not afraid to show off your work. I had my work stolen before so I get scared to show it for years and years and it stunted my growth. (BIG TIME) But i love looking at peoples sketch books, art, and projects, and I love showing off my Art journals, my sketch books, paintings. Art is to be shared with the world, that's why we make it, that's why we sell it.
thank you for sharing your years projects. They are so beautiful!

I’m so sorry that happened to you 😢 It sucks!! But I hope it doesn’t scare you into not enjoying, sharing, or monetizing your own art. You should be able to do whatever you want with it. I’ve always shared my art and have only gotten it stolen once in over 15 years, so it’s not as common as one might fear.

Ness, thank you. I found you recently, got my freebie from the art summit, and with this video, I'm getting inspired to learn more about surface design.
I'm a self taught traditional artist and crafter, I also work a full time corporate job. Last year I focused on developing my sculpting skills, particularly in foam clay.
Also did some paintings, and tried my hand at entering Stan Winston competitions and the Luxembourg Art Prize, started working on my social media presence and decided I'm going to try and prepare myself as if I'd want to apply to the Denmark animation workshop in 2 years.
I'm also a self taught tattoo artist (not uncommon in Eastern Europe,) I have been doing them for some years and I only tattoo myself and close friends, so I did some of those. 😅

I also did an UI/UX course and started working on a plan to help a systemically impoverished community in my area to sustain itself and gain some income online.
I've started watching art channels, mainly to listen to artist's experience with business and I love your channel!
Since I found your channel, surface pattern design is becoming another idea to add to the list of income sources I/we could learn and leverage in the community, to help people with no income otherwise. Thank you so much for sharing your advice and helping the art community, so I really feel like my future business and the shop I envisioned for the project are starting to shape up in theory.
P.S.I just looked up spoonflower, and I’m hopping on the frog design challenge, just to see what I can do :)
I dream of FX and animation, so surface design is not necessarily going to be the main thing I want to do, but an income source is an income source.
Sorry for the long story. 😂

Wow, you can do everything!! So multi-talented! 😍 It's really impressive, and helpful because art skills, even in different media or markets, can always make us a better artist in general and improve our general level and understanding of art. But it can be a double-edged sword - for people like you who have multiple passions and skills, it's often difficult to narrow it down and pick a focus. There isn't enough hours in the day to do everything... or at least, not to do it well. Every single thing that you mentioned, from animation to UX/UI to surface design to sculpture, requires a full-time focus in order to become a stable income. You have a lot of talents to choose from!

@@ArtBusinesswithNess thank you! Yes you are right, I know I definitely need to specialize, being a jack of all trades was a survival necessity, but now I'm more comfortable and can focus on just a few things.
I was drawing and sculpting since I was little, but had to start working many odd jobs as a kid.
I then spent many years working very long hours in a non-art grown up job and during that period I made no art.
Tattooing was my choice since I started doing stick and pokes in the early 2000s as a 14yo, it was everything I wanted, but for many years I didn't think making money from art was possible any other way unless you were a celebrity or something.
I don't see it in the cards professionally anymore. That said, I'll still probably be tattooing myself and my friends till I have to tie the machine to my hand.😅
Now I'm in love with sculpting prop making and animation and my new job has normal hours so I can get a lot of work done. All in all the plan is to have a business of my own.
That said I've been drawing and painting and illustrating and crafting for years, and in 2023 I thought that maybe I could start a voluntary art workshop and find ways that people can make money from their art, aside from finding other cheap or free trade courses, and other social resources kept from them due to discrimination. The UI/UX is also something I took up for this, cause I want to point them to it and make their e-commerce site
The community I'm aiming to help has long been racially segregated and kept in abject poverty. Education levels average at primary school for most adults, and unemployment is at 100%, and the latest estimate is that there's 5 k unhoused people in my 250k city. If anyone can earn an income and I can point them to how, then that's more important than anything else I want in my career.
That's why I appreciate you and what you do, artists like you who pave the way for those who come after are the people who got me back into thinking that having a career in art may be possible for me too. So thank you again and I hope your business keeps flourishing.

@@alinat5321 I'm glad if my videos can help! With all the things you've tried, you've learned a lot and made a ton of progress in identifying what's not going to be it for you in the long run. Process of elimination am I right? :) You will figure it out, I'm sure!

I want to thank you for showing your art collections. I really enjoyed it, you inspire me to want to do some work and tried to sell them. what program do you use for your greeting cards, and where do you put your work up to sell.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Nowadays I like to draw in Procreate, and I send my designs by email to companies to sell them. Since last October, I also have a licensing agent that does trade shows on my behalf.

Thanks for sharing the great information! So happy for your success. 😊 When you create designs for greeting cards traditionally, do you make them the size of the finished card? Also, what program do you use for the layout for your designs/collections? Thanks! Continued success!!

I draw cards at 10 x 14 inches (they’re usually shrunk down to 5 x 7 for cards, but can be much bigger for other products like gift bags! I paint them in Procreate, and put together the final layout in Photoshop. Hope this helps!

Do you use a watercolor paper canvas when doing them digitally?

    • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  Před 7 měsíci

I use brushed that have a grainy texture to them, so it's often not necessary to add any canvas texture on top :)
