    I love the way they've tastefully created a modern building that fits in with it's surrounding architecture - that public art piece is awesome too. Great video as always Paul!

      I think they're hideous 70's throw-backs. There are much more attractive ways to integrate them into the surrounds. I'd personally prefer a sandstone cladding with perhaps a touch of decorative brushed metalwork trims (if not carved sandstone), with the sandstone representing Sydney's original building blocks and the metal representing industry and technology. At least for the three levels dedicated to the station.

      The Eastern Suburbs line, particularly Martin Place and Kings Cross, have a definite 1970s vibe and Sydney does not have a lot of that era' public infrastructure left. Refresh, good. Replace, not good.

    Hi Paul, I just have to say it. I am looking forward to the opening of the Metro extension to Sydenham. I am so impressed with your presentation that I have changed my mind about Metro and can't wait to visit Martin Place, especially as I was there for the opening of the ESR.       Glad you enjoyed it! Don't book your flights yet! The offical line is still "the middle of the year", so could be July, August or September. My understanding is that the opening date will be announced about 6 weeks before, and I'm sure that will be well publicised!

    The whole architecture of all the new stations look impressive from your great videos Paul. I'm looking at some of the Melbourne metro stations that are still incomplete but from what was done in Sydney, they will be far more aesthetic and integrated. Well done Sydney- I look forward visiting in a few months.

    Thanks Paul for this in depth video! I was in Martin Place just a few days ago and marvelled then how closed to finished the new buildings are, and how splendid they look. I'm especially excited to see how the new Martin Place platforms integrated with the old ones - and you've given me the best preview yet.

      You're very welcome! Yes the new buildings do look amazing now. Martin Place Station was closed over the long Easter weekend, and I had a feeling they would remove the hoardings during that time, and I was right!

    Worth noting 1ES is also integrated with 50MP on every second level as the new Macquarie HQ is essentially both buildings together as an integrated campus

    Another fantastic video, thanks Paul! It really helps explain what is quite a confusing station lay out. I think these are the two best TODs on the entire line, the two towers really are beautiful. The loop art piece is superb as well. Very keen to see the video for Gadigal. From the very few photos I've seen of the station itself, it will give Victoria Cross a run for the most stunning after Central.

Recently, I had to go into Macquarie Street; Amazed by the new buildings associated with the metro project. Reminded me of Manhattan in the 1980s.Keep going with this remarkable project you have undertaken.

    Really like the metallic mobius strip artwork which looks timeless and will age well. I'm not so convinced the colourful tiled mosaic artwork shaped like an eye will age as well. It already looks like something out of the 70s. Maybe it will grow on me 🙂

    Thanks for an excellent update, Paul. Looking forward to the opening. The art works will be amazing to see. We visited the open day of the Victoria Cross station and were gobsmacked. So looking forward to this new station. (those escalators are surely long!)

    The Martin Place station looks very grand. It fits in with the rest of the Sydney CBD. Watching the construction of the City and Southwest extension has been educational and fun, and it makes me want to do a return trip to see it in person. Is there a definite opening date for the line yet beyond later in 2024? Thanks, Paul, for the work you put in to make these videos.

      Glad you enjoyed it. "Middle of this year" is still the best answer, as an exact date can't be announced until testing and various regulatory approvals have been completed. My understanding is that about 6 weeks notice will be giving for the actual opening date, and I'm sure that will be widely publicised.

    I was in Sydney in February when i went to the Australian Museum for the Gold of the pharohs exhibit and did the big bus tour and Castlereagh Street was a mess along with Martin place I got a photo of the tower on Castlereagh street but it was still nearing completion

    Love your work mate So when will the platform upgrades at Sydney Terminals centre station be finished any updates mate and by the way is the cladded Wall safe they are not the same material that was used in apartment fire in the UK hope not

      Thanks! Ballast, rails and a few sleepers have now appeared for platforms 13 and 14. This will be featured in my next multi-station update which should be out during next week. Highly unlikely! Since the Kings Cross fire in London, all materials used are designed to be fire-resistant. The fact that the Chalmers Street entrance survived the Surry Hills fire so well is testament to the materials used.

      Hi Paul, Yes, it is gate-free between Metro and Train platforms, as long as you go via the passageway from the Arrivals Hall, and not up the main escalators. Still officially, the "middle of this year" with an exact date to be announced about 6 weeks before.

      Hi Mark, yes that's true, but one of the reasons for the Metro is to take the pressure off existing lines and stations, including the Eastern Suburbs Line. It also makes sense to have interchanges at Martin Place and Central.

    I think there were some shady dealings with this getting built. It's not a coincidence a certain bank bought 50 martin place when this was still in the drawing boards, and no firm location "officially" set, as well as buying certain properties around the city.
    Id also be suspicious about any artworks in sydney cbd as a certain lord mayor pushes artists, all friends, to get maximum cost on that and then some how gets a lot of "donations".
