Upper Chesapeake White Perch Run 2024!

Mid-March means the white perch spawning run in the rivers and creeks of the Upper Chesapeake Bay. I head down that way to meet up with my father and brothers for a perch fishing session. Double jig dropshot caught fish, as did a double shad dart rig and, once the tide brought the water level down, the float & fly produced, too. As the water warms look for the perch to move up in the water column in which case the float & fly will become a better approach

No fall spawning run of white perch in the Chesapeake, although in late fall/early winter (December-ish) Yellow Perch do start to congregate at deeper spots in rivers and larger creek mouths as they stage for their late winter run. So there are perch to be caught in the Upper Chesapeake in late fall/early winter.
