For anyone (else) curious the switch is a "Surface Mount Navigation Switch"

I was wondering about the choice of using an ESP32 alongside an ESP8266, specifically the D1 mini.
It seems like integrating an ESP8266 (without ESP32 or D1 mini) directly into the main board could streamline the design. Perhaps the main PCB could handle color detection and also manage WiFi connectivity - initially setting up its own network for a direct connection to input WiFi details, then connecting to the specified network upon reboot. If the connection fails, it could automatically revert to hotspot mode after a short delay. This approach might reduce costs and complexity.
The inclusion of both an ESP32 and a D1 mini seems a bit redundant. Given the compact size of the main PCB, it appears quite portable on its own.
Nonetheless, I find this project to be incredibly fascinating and innovative!

Thank you! I've been wanting something like this to build off of. I'm an artist and need multiple rotating/flowing light sources to get full effect...and I just tear electronics apart currently. this looks like...um...amazing to me
