  • This video is from an October 18, 2019, presentation by immigration attorney Caitlin Steinke about gathering evidence to support your asylum case.
DISCLAIMER: While this presentation and the corresponding guide on our website include tips often used by asylum attorneys when preparing evidence in asylum cases, none of the information provided should be construed as legal advice. Every asylum claim is unique, and it is impossible to advise an asylum seeker about their case without knowing the specific facts and circumstances of their situation. Neither this presentation nor the corresponding guide engage in any assessment of an asylum seeker’s eligibility for asylum, nor do they provide examples of “right” or “wrong” types of evidence in an asylum case. Importantly, USCIS, the Asylum Offices, and the Immigration Courts have specific rules concerning how and when evidence should be submitted in an asylum case, and nothing in this presentation or the corresponding guide should be construed as replacing or altering those rules. Asylum seekers are encouraged to consult with an asylum attorney to obtain legal advice about their individual asylum claims.

I am confused as to how to submit the mentioned "country condition reports" as evidence. It was mentioned that a specific portion of the document could be included in the table of contents. Usually, the table of content points out a specific "exhibit" in the application. Should we print the entire reports to submit as evidence by pointing out a page and paragraph or portion of the report or can we submit a printout of the relevant portion, or perhaps submit just a direct citation containing the url, page, and paragraph to be searched by the officer?
