  • Great footage of myself catching a fish of around 15lb on the fly in a small spate river in the west coast of Ireland. The pool in question give me another salmon of around 8lb 2 weeks previous so i had an inkling and decided to give the GoPro a try out. **warning, there is some swearing midway through**!

Well done , enjoyed your video. I’ve fished this river and it’s very hard to get it dead right as the water runs off very quick and Glenamoy is one of the last places on earth that God created...it quite out of the way, but beautiful. I’ve only got grilse and seatrout in it, never anything like the salmon you got there. The midges can eat you alive up there if you pick the wrong day!! I know that particular section too and it can be difficult to cross the river when it has a good bit of water like it had on your visit. I was told that there is a considerable amount of poaching still occurring up there too which is a shame. Thanks for posting the video, well done.

amazed you let fish take you down to backing 3 or 4 times by not moving down the bank earlier to get square and put real pressure on fish - not current! Superb fish, fantastic battle and - what a lot of 'benweed' for a county full of cattle and horses!

It’s a really small river with biggish water on that day. If the fish felt side pressure he would have split down a few pool and I couldn’t follow.

Many a nice springer I have had in the wonderful west of Ireland including a terrific 14lb fish last year. Got eight on my first day out this year after the lockdown restrictions ended and another one on the last weekend of the season. My hat mounted GoPro has got plenty of memories over the years.

It's a hard river at times for salmon but if you get that 4 hour window you could rise 3-4 fish and they are a great shape.

It was the Glenamoy in the West of Ireland, you need to be there nearly on the day or the water goes very quickly.

Would you not cover a lot more fish if you casted up stream and let the fly flow down. Amazing fish and great fight you obviously know you’re stuff so don’t think I’m telling you how to fish.
