  • In this video, we took a scenic drive and hike to Max Patch in North Carolina. Max Patch is a 4,600-ft. bald mountain which was cleared and used as pasture in the 1800s. Today, it's a 350-acre tract of open land on a high knob with 360-degree views. It's one of those spectacular settings the makes us love the Blue Ridge mountains. The loop hike to the top and back is just over 1.5 mikes and has an elevation change of 308 ft.
On a clear day, you can see Mt. Mitchell to the east and the Great Smoky Mountains to the southwest. The Appalachian Trail also traverses the top of the bald.
