- More info at www.rcgrabbag.com. Most guys my age have had, or know someone who had, a Cox .049 powered Jeep from the 1970's. This particular Jeep dates back to 1973 and is in pristine, never before run condition. My friend Bill is a wizard with these finicky little Cox glow fuel engines, and amazingly, gets the nearly 40yr. old never-run engine to start on the first try.

I had one when I was a kid in the mid 70's. Ran it so much the .049 finally lost compression. Rebuilt it with cylinder and piston from another.049 and ran it some more. Great memories. Thanks for posting.
Same here!
My father had the purple Dune Buggy and told me stories about it as a kid, I wanted one so bad and finally now found an orange one that needed a little work but had good rubber. Put a hotter top end with dual intake ports and opened up exhaust ports, a high compression head, and a mylar valve in it. I also have a purple anodized head that takes standard glow plugs if I feel like making it look nice. Just need to finish up the trim stuff and get some warm weather to get out and run it.
My older brother had the .049 Baja Bug back in the day. I really wanted the jeep.
I still have the same Jeep.
Haven’t run it since probably the late 70’s.
Gotta get it up & running….
Great memories!
Dude, I had this jeep as a kid. So fun watching the starting procedure, memories flooding back. So rad!
I had one of those back then. Wore it out until the engine had no compression. Best toy ever!
oh man that brings back memory's.. like the feeling of blisters on your fingers from the pull starter...lol
blisters on fingers and damn for pull starter rope breaking 😅
I didn't know they made a Jeep. That one looks great in the dirt. I had the red, white, and blue stock car. I'm sure it came with a steering wheel remote that was connected to an air bellow inside the car with a long plastic tube. You had to run around behind the car and steer it. So much fun as a kid!
This brings back so many memories. I never had the Jeep, but I had the Sandblaster and Dune Buggy. Also had a few planes.
There also an 80's Honda atc90 trike model powered buy a cox .049 I'd really like to have one but there now worth $500 used
Never seen this Jeep before. Very cool. I smiled the whole time.
I had the Sandblaster, but never got the engine started.
Very realistic in scale, the bumpy ride is perfect in scale
Nice. Wow, That brings back memories. A friend of mine in the early 70s had one of those and a Shrike. Good old fun. Those and Estes rockets. Cool stuff
That's awesome! I had the jeep and the P51 Cox vehicles. And yeah, I guess it would have been around 74 or 75. Brings back great memories. Thanks for sharing this.
I had quite a few Cox models back in the day. I never had the Jeep though, and man did I want that thing bad! lol. Great memories. Thanks for sharing.
So cool to see this running the way it would have been 40 years ago!
Love my Vintage RCs!
(And the new brushless stuffs pretty neat too!)
I had a chaparral when I was a kid in the sixties. Only .049 car I owned. But every dollar I earned went into Cox .049 planes. I crashed so many I must have kept them in business
Great vid ! And will be my precious one
Awesome! Brings back memories!
I had several COX toys. A Dune Buggy, a Trike, and many planes. My favorite was a helicopter you just released- free flight
Excellent beautiful amazing sublime inmortal.. COX AMAZING RULES.
The best!
Had one as a kid. One of the best toys I ever had, used it so much the pull cord broke! Would love to have another one!
Ha... Thanks for that video, It brings back great memories
. I'm in my mid 40's now, but way back in the 70's my brother and I had one of these. We would run out to the local construction site (like you) and let it run all around the dirt mounds. Good times.
That just might be the coolest combustion engined scale model EVER!
Wonderful vintage toys, i love it
Never knew they existed. Had the Purple dune buggy, the Shrike & that Red/White/ Blue dragter ( forgot its name) & then the control line plane bug hit me.
Nice. I had the dune buggy in purple,,,I don't remember it going as fast as this Jeep.
Thanks for posting this! I've always wanted one of the Jeep's. I've owned the Dune Buggy and a few of the old Beetle Bug's but never the Jeep. That thing actually has a little get up and go! My old bug's were sloooowww!
That was and is entertaining !!!! My brother had one. I had the Vega dragster. Fun fun fun!
Badass!
That's great! Loud and smokey = fun
I am underwhelmed.
Christmas...December...1969....I got a COX 049 Dunebuggy like this.
Now that's a cool hobby.
Super beautiful
Did anyone else have the 049 Air Woulf helicopter?
That lil $@!*÷$& would come straight back at ya!
Absolutely horrifying and amazing at the same time!
very cool and you got plenty of room inside to try a rc-mod to add some steering and make it way cooler!

I want to build my one COX 049 Car and this Video is very helpfull, because I know now that the Cox is a strong engine to drive a little bit offroad :)

all Army jeeps should be like this one
I had a trike and dunebuggy fro COX
Love it I still got mine hasent run in years.gas tank caved in when I went to fuel it up
Da freut sich der Motor ohne Luftfilter über den Staub.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Viele Grüsse aus Germany
No it is not remote controlled....
You could choose which ways the wheels pointed
and they would stay locked typically in that position
unless they got bumped hard...
Smell that castor oil exhaust!
That is amazing! I never thought I'd live to actually see one running. Is it 'free flight' or does it have a radio control? I wonder.
Free range!
is it radio controlled.
can you control the gas on such a engine or does it just run full throttle thinking of building a little rc plane
Ramirez Ramirez
There is a kit you can buy online to add throttle control. It just bolts on to the back.
It just needs Klinger and Hawkeye in it.
Nice! But wasn't it running a bit too rich?
I had the dune buggy. The Jeep is much quicker! Got a Baja Bug now, but no accessories to get it running.
Running nice and fat. When they really start screaming you know they are about to seize. Gotta keep that around another 40 years.
Where is the GI JOE???
