There are no bad ELO songs. Every one of them are loved. There is one song you guys should hear called All Over the World. ❤
Second this.
Agree great song
That is a required listen
I want them to hear "Diary of Horace Wimp" just to see what they make of it
There’s a great video with flash mobs to this song.
ELO didn't make bad music. Period. Jeff Lynne is a musical genius/madman.
I saw ELO live seven years ago when I was 10. It was PHENOMENAL. I was very young and very tired but I remember one drunk guy yelling “YOU FUCKING GENIUS MAN” and in my head I was like “yup, that’s it right there”
agreed, and i hope for a reaction to telephone line.
There is no mistaking ELO. They had timing and intertwined so many sounds ... made something truly unique and wonderful.
Still are. They are going on tour again this year.
And at the TIME, they changed my life......in a very good sense!
Oh dear, you can never go wrong with ELO. "Telephone Line" and "The Fall" are my two favorites by them. Then "Evil Woman" and "Shangri-La". I suggest either of them, if you haven't yet.❤
I agree! Back in the day though, we never thought about this song as "futuristic". We thought it was cool and sounded good- it was another great song from the terrific band ELO!! ❤
Yes! The Fall is so underrated!
They have done those already . At least Evil Woman.
Telephone Line literally makes me cry.
I never get tired of listening to ELO. This is one of their best songs. Great pick!
This whole album is a GEM!!! Hold on Tight would be a great song to react to!
Great song!
Great suggestion.
Hate to be the ELO nerd, but 'Hold On Tight' is from 'Time'. BOTH albums are great!
I love the Time album… lots of good memories of the people I hung with when that album came out
@@txheadshots I was a teenager during the 70s so of course I knew ELO, but I was never a fan until Time came out while I was at University. Being a sci-fi fan I loved the songs about the Moon and the robots. "Is that what you want?" It was then that I went back over the catalogue and learned to appreciate the genius of Mr Lynne. And just where is that knighthood???
Jeff Lynne is a genius. He has a knack for writing some of the catchiest songs in music history.
His latest songs are great too
"Shine a Little Love"
is one people tend to sleep on but it's one of the best songs in their catalog...
100 percent concur.
Yes!
Not heard one person mention The Diary Of Horace Wimp, one of my favourite ELO songs.
I feel the same about "Showdown"
@@andrewlaw glad someone else thinks the same
I loved all of his music. You can hear his influences in every lyric. He is timeless.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Telephone Line" and "Fire On High"!!!
Add "Livin Thing" and "Eldorado Overture/Can't Get it Out of My Head"
@@tomtortolani8082 they reacted to Livin Thing 2 months ago. All great songs.
@@tomtortolani8082 I've requested the El Dorado/Can't Get It Out Of My Head" so many times. Even in 2 emails and I just requested it again. It's driving me nuts that they haven't done it because I know they'll love it.
@@jamesdamiano8894 Whenever I listen to it, I can't get "I Can't Get it Out of My Head" out of my head.😂
Seconding "Fire on High" -- even among ELO's catalog, it's unique and fantastic.
ELO always reminds me of being on vacation. My Mom had ELO Greatest Hits on cassette. We were up in Michigan on vacation and brought a boom box to the beach for the day. Mom popped in ELO while she relaxed on the lounge chair and the rest of us played in the sand. The first side of the tape finished and when she went to flip it, the eject button was jammed. We had to listen to side 1 over and over the whole day at the beach.
Everything by ELO is gold. The sound so melodic and moving. As a kid I noticed it wasn't always 4x4 standard pop songs, but strange sounds that delighted the ears. My favourite? Mission (A World Record).
I love their songs. "Telephone Line" should be next!
watch the "Live from Wembley Stadium" version of Telephone Line. It will give you all the feels.
YES. I can't believe they've not done that one yet
YES‼️💜😁
@@suzy260 so much that version! It actually brings tears to my eyes!
One of the great “singles” bands of all time. Check out their final US Top 40 hit, 1986’s “Calling America”.
Ever listened to the Time album? 3 or four really good songs
@@mattjohnson7725Especially the first three tracks!
Yes, you won't be able to stop playing it.
@@johnirving5949 yea I always liked Hear is the news
Typo here is the news
When I was in 5th grade we had a super cool teacher. She would let us bring our records to school to listen to in class on Friday afternoons. I specifically remember someone bringing a 45 of this song and listening to it on one of those Friday afternoons. Good memories! Thanks Miss Hamilton! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
When I was in what must have been the equivalent the 8th or 9th grade? in about 1978 one of our music teachers put Turn to Stone on followed by reggae band Steel Pulse to demonstrate the difference between a more straight rock style of drumming and the variation found in the latter's percussive style. Turn to Stone was a UK hit at the late end of 1977 and a favourite ELO song of one of my closest friends at school. Great song.
"Turn To Stone", was described by Donald A. Guarisco as "a good example of Electric Light Orchestra's skill for mixing string-laden pop hooks with driving rock and roll", praising the "array of swirling string lines that dart in and out of the mix and some dazzling falsetto harmonies that interact with Lynne's lead vocal in call and response style". This song garnered Jeff Lynne a BMI (Broadcast Music Inc) Million-Air certificate for having one million airplays. They took their name because they combined electric rock instruments with orchestral instruments. "Light Orchestras" were small orchestras popular in England in the '60s.
Imagine growing up with these guys and the rest of the 70’s rock, it was amazing!…;)
I don't have to imagine. I lived it...
Yes, it was awesome.
We just didn't know how good we had it back then!
I, ah, don't have to imagine it...
Yes it was
Gawd, this was my childhood! It is a magical song. Many 70s bands made you feel you were off to outerspace - none more than ELO! Jeff Lynne is a genius!
You absolutely MUST do The Diary of Horace Wimp. It's another masterpiece of creativity and song and lyric writing.
I agree sir absolute genius
Amber hit the nail on the head. The key word is Orchestra. ELO uses everything in the orchestra to make music. Not many groups can do it this good. Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Queen, Beatles. Maybe 1 or 2 others here and there, but that’s about it. Making rock music without featuring guitars is at least unique. Gotta love it! Much love ❤️
It is a futuristic Glam Rock sound. This album would be on repeat waaay back in 1988 when I started my first job. I got to know it very well. From beginning to end it is a classic album with a theme throughout. I love every track. ❤
Ah, how nice to "meet" someone else who has listened enough to OOTB to have noticed that there is a theme (I would actually call it a story) going through all four sides of this magnum opus double album.
I was a child during the 1970's, (born in 1966) and I remember loving all of ELO's songs. But until adulthood, I never knew all of these songs were from the same band because each song was so different.
One of the best groups ever! Nobody else sounds like them.
I have spent several hours watching your video reactions today. I loved seeing you discover Prince. You've watched many videos by Queen, but I was very surprised to find you haven't watched Queen's performance at Live Aid. This is a must-see. I have a feeling you've never seen a man hold 70,000 people in the palm of his hand before. It's amazing. Please watch. I would so love to see your reactions.
It’s an entire orchestra playing.. ELO had the largest touring rock band ever in the history of rock bands everywhere!!
Bands like ELO make me thankful I'm an early GenX and I got to hear and see so many great bands. We were truly spoiled when it came to music, so many genres with so many great songs. There's still good music around, but you've got to hunt for it, it sure isn't on the radio, lol!
The first single from this iconic 1977 double album. When Jeff Lynne performs this in concert with his "new" ELO band, the crowd can actually repeat the non-musical verse.
I saw ELO live in 1974 when they opened for Deep Purple at the Portland Coliseum. You haven't really felt music until you've heard an electric cello at 110 decibels.
Their live version of "Roll Over Beethoven", a cover of the Chuck Berry classic is a must react-to one day!!
Best version of all.😅roll over Beethoven.
100% 🔥
@@RobertSmith-iw2kb agreed quite brilliant mixing Beethoven into Chuck Berry song roll over Beethoven also Rockaria
it really IS incredibly good. I'd forgotten all about it. Damn.
No, it's not. ELO has so many better songs I can't even..
The "Light" in their name is Singular (Electric LIGHT Orchestra). With every song your hear them do, you notice Jeff's genius, from the best ever cover of ROLL OVER BEETHOVEN, to TELEPHONE LINE, MR. BLUE SKY, EVIL WOMAN, etc., etc....
One of the greatest bands ever!! So many awesome memories to these guys!
In John Lennon's words, ELO is what the Beatles would have become had they stayed together.
In his dreams... 😅
I like ELO, but if The Beatles morphed into something similar to ELO, that would be, well, not good.
When he first heard them he said "they're like son of I Am the Walrus."
Decades down the road, Jeff Lynne worked with George Harrison in their project "the Traveling Wilburys"
He called them Beatle Lite, didn't he?
I listened to ELO on an 8 track. 😁
Then you may have heard some of the songs in the wrong order... 8-o
Had 8 tracks, but not theirs. I switched to albums and recording those on cassettes.
Wife here..One of my FAVORITE ELO songs..Even as a very small child..I knew they were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING MUSICIAN 'S!!!
"Out of the Blue" is an incredible album. One of many by ELO.
Out of the Blue is an awesome album. So many great seventies albums. This is another one. ❤
From the ages of 7-10 I played this album almost every day until my mum gave in and I got to see them live haha!
I stole this album from my dad when I was 9 years old and played it over and over and over again until I could sing this entire song without any mistakes including the breathless wonder of the bridge. It was soooooo cool that I just had to be able to do it too. Absolutely love ELO!😊
When I was a kid back in the 70's they used to play a lot of ELO at our local roller rink.
One reason your getting the Queen vibes is because ELO and Queen songs from this time were both produced in Giorgio Moroder's Musicland studio, by the same legendary studio engineer.
Nostalgia! Early memories of this coming on my dad's FM radio in the garage while he tinkered on his car while I was pushing toys cars around on the floor. Such good vibes!
My older brothers would go to see ELO in concert and I remember one brother gave me a ride to high school the next day and told me I had to talk loud because he couldn't hear LOL. ELO was so good and so unique, everyone, including me seemed to have this album
Thank you for responding to so many ELO songs! I love them! Their sound brings me right back to high school.
I love it. I love how you are discovering all the great music from that era especially ELO. They are a great band.
ELO will never disappoint. Rockaria! and Ma-Ma-Ma Belle are fantastic and you should definitely react to those songs.
Rockaria is my favourite.
"Don't Bring Me Down"
I love when you guys do ELO. Turn To Stone is track 1 from their 1977 masterpiece double album Out Of The Blue. I bought this album when it first came out back in the day. All tracks are really awesome, but I highly recommend songs 10-13. They made up side three of the original double album, and it was called A Concerto For A Rainy Day. I think you guys will really enjoy it.
You know, I haven't been on CZcams as much lately because of work and stuff but I never come away from your reactions disappointed at all. It's always so fun and I've been watching you from very early on in fact, those early ones that J did by himself. Anyway, and I love how you're going off near the end Amber. That's great.
One of my faves is their instrumental...Fire on High...
ELO is an incredible band. I saw this tour and the visuals as well as the sound was incredible.
One of the many underrated bands, songs that brought your spirits up, made you think and smile.
The instrument being played is a Moog played by Jef Lynne
This harkens back to the days when we had tape recorders and if a song played on the radio we'd desperately scramble to hit the record button. I can still remember this playing back in my school days. We were definitely blessed with good music back in the 70s & 80s.
Great song and group! Jeff Lynn joined the Traveling Wilburies! ❤❤
Jeff LYNNE helped form the Travelling Wilburys
Jeff Lynne is a musical genius!
I went to an ELO show in the 70's and they played in the middle of the space ship on the cover the top half lifted and the band was inside it was AWESOME! What a show I got close enough to the stage I strummed Mc Dowells Cello he fretted and I stummed what a time!!
Same here...I saw them in the late 70's in Denver. It was a great show !
Great reaction ~~ My brother just bought tickets today for us for ELO in Chicago in September!!!
I am so excited I can hardly stand it! The next 6 months is going to be like a kid waiting for Christmas! Woohoo!!!!
This was the first music I purchased with my hard-earned money when I was a teenager. After hearing "Telephone Line" I couldn't wait to purchase this 45 from the store. I still love this song to this day. Great memories of my youth with this classic ELO song. Ironically "Star Wars" came about the same time, so they are intertwined in my mind for eternity.
I saw the tour for this album and it was incredible. Their stage was a giant flying saucer motif where the opening band had to have a separate stage to perform on and then be taken down so E.L.O. could do their show. I'm gonna say it again guys. I have been requesting and waiting on two reactions from you two for several months now. If you guys read the comments then you know what they are. But to recap-by them is "El Dorado (overture) and Can't Get It Out Of My Head". "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" was a hit on it's own but these two go right into each other and it's best to do them that way. It's only a couple of minutes longer and the overture is great, you'll love it.. A more rockin' song by them is "Poker". A more straight ahead rock tune. Of course the other song I want is "Ice Cream Man" by Van Halen. I'm gonna keep saying them until you do them.
Wow, you guys still finding gems.
The Beatles had a baby and they named it ELO! Jeff Lynne is is as big as music itself!!! Dig in and you will find. The way he brought Roy Orbison back to significants is just one of his accomplishments. Traveling willburys, heartbreakers, beach boys the Beatles all owe him. Legend.
I recommend the video of this song at ELO's concert ''Live at Wembley Stadium.'' The impact of 40,000 people enjoying this concert makes this song unforgettable.
My fav group to this day and I still listen to them about all the time. No one else did what they did.
Telephone line gets my vote for next ELO song. Great reaction as always
When I was a junior at Cal State Univ.Long Beach in 1978, my roommate would burst into our apartment many times in the morning after returning from classes yelling "quick I need ELO's Turn to Stone" because I'm turning to stone. His math teacher was named Stone and he was apparently on the eccentric side. I put the vinyl on the turntable and let it rip. He collapsed on the couch thanking me for coming to the rescue. I t was a real hoot!
ELO is all of the musical instruments not to mention Jeff lynne's voice is amazing you can always recognize it
My first and favorite ELO song. Brings me back to 7th Grade.❤️🎶
The BEST Electric Band w/ Light Orchestra ever!!! ELO ROCKS!!!!!!
Another of my favorite bands. Listen to Showdown, All Over the World
One of my favorite songs from them! When they go crazy fast with the lyrics in the middle, the crowd live goes crazy!
Jeff Lynne's musical chops cannot be denied. Greatness all round.
ELO was and is my favorite band for nearly 50 years now. If you haven't yet reacted to it, I highly recommend "Can't Get It Out Of My Head."
ELO is special, lol, love Jeff Lynne's writing and music arrangements....Great song...
Ahh, the "Son of the Beatles", love them. ELO has so many good songs I can't even name my favorites.
It's gotta be "Shine A lIttle Love" by ELO next because that's what you two do.
ELO was a spin-off from a Beatles tribute band and some members of the London philharmonic. Their music is fire!
They were one of the first bands to incorporate synthesizers and it not sound cheesy. They had normal Rock n roll instruments but added in the synthesizer sound that could create and expound any musical instrument. Def legends...this to me is one of their best songs and it came out during a time that disco was running the show so it was so refreshing honestly. I was in 8 th grade at the time this album came out and I was a rocker and was very resentful that disco ruled the airwaves at that time.
One of their most-well crafted songs ever. I'm never one to gush over ELO (I admire them rather than enthuse), but you'd have to be MADE of stone not to like this one.
Can't go wrong with Jeff Lynne and ELO or the Traveling Wilburys.
Out of the blue, an album that has the most amazing artwork (outer cover and inner cover) and amazing music to match. If I had to take only one ELO album to play for the rest of my life (and I have them all) it would be difficult but it would be this album, every track is a gem. Turn to stone, the first track on this album shoots you off to space and from there it just keeps getting better and better. It was this very single that got me in to Electric Light Orchestra way back in 1977. A very good year for music.
I've always loved the intro, and that bridge/breakdown is to die for!!!
LOVE this one. One of my absolute favs by ELO.
Their best IMO.
If you'd like to hear something a little different than the usual ELO, try their song 'Do Ya." It's a 'banger.'
Ha, Ha, Ha! Gonna say, lots of fun. Ho! There's footage out there of live ELO where the string players lift their instruments over their heads and keep right on playing. That's flair. Thank you!
Glad you guys finally checked this tune out, one of the best concerts I ever went to.
This is my ELO JAM!
This song is the opener to one of the best albums ever. Stunning!
I was lucky to be around when all the great bands were starting out, and ELO had a huge live show. One I really love is Wild West Hero. You should check out their live performances for full effect.
ELO their stage set up was a exactly as the cover. It was a FLYING SAUCER!
It opened up the top would lift off and the band would be playing inside!!!!
Great way to start the evening love this song💞
Telephone Line is a must for the next reaction
This is always a favourite at their live performances and that central vocal section always gets a massive response from the audience. See their live performance of this track on CZcams
Love ELO. Haven’t heard them in a while. Good song.
Very upbeat song! They're just as good slower songs like "Telephone Line" or "Midnight Blue" that are more like ballads but beautifully executed.
Love ELO! 👍🖤💖🔥👏👏👏
Wow wow and wow again thanks guys ❤
ELO is so unique. I always loved their music. Mr Blue Sky is my fav of their songs. Also Livin Thing, Telephone Line, Rockaria, All Over the World. And this one. It’s like they picked up where the Beatles left off and took it in their own direction. I love their rock band cello section. That’s one of my fav instruments. So I love how ELO incorporated that in their sound so beautifully
This was normal music in my day. Glad to see y’all enjoying this 🤘🏻
💙E.L.O.!!! Please react to -All Over the World (flash-mob video) -Thanks!!!
I'm surprised ELO never had a number 1 hit on the USA pop charts. They had so many great songs on the radio when I was a teen in the 1970s. They had excellent hits in the UK as well. Strong Albums was another reason I loved them, and good production as well. Evil Woman, Roll Over Beethoven (early on), Don't Let Me Down, Mr. Blue Sky, and so many more. Their British predecessor was the Move.
The ending to this song reminds me so much of the end of "A Day In The Life" by the Beatles.
ELO's overall sound is one in which you just can't pick out individual instruments. I think that was just their style.
love me some elo ....saw them 5 times
I saw them twice! Mid '70's - excellent! Montreal.
@@j.h.3777 did they have the space ship?... omg that was so awesome and light show blew me away
@@Disembodied_Voice_420 I don't remember much (of a few decades...lol) but I remember the first show was outside and they had laser lights bouncing off the cellos and going up to the sky and hitting stars. Really wild and the second time was indoors (Montreal Forum) and I remember the laser lights too but that's about it. Now Pink Floyd had really wild effects. Those were the days.... and the shows cost around $5.00!!
@@j.h.3777 i hear that i saw the wall in new york in 1980 pink put on the best show ive seen ....right it was cheaper back then i miss those days
This was the song that introduced me to ELO back in 77 or 78 I believe. I was hooked by the bright sound, positive vibes and many different instruments that weren't what I thought a rock group would use. Also, I was so impressed by their vocals. I must have listened to this one song two dozen times that first day I heard it. So glad you guys enjoyed it! Peace!
