  • As previously reported, on September 8, 2023, the first shipment of newly produced GOEX Blackpowder since Estes Energetics purchased the brand is available to muzzleloading enthusiasts. Around 1,800 lbs of 2F, 3F, and 4F “regular” GOEX made its way to the NMLRA National Championships in Friendship Indiana.
    In conjunction with the delivery, GOEX representatives were in attendance at the NMLRA National Championships from September 9-11 to answer questions, meet with muzzleloading enthusiasts, and learn more about the growing community of blackpowder shooters.
    I was able to sit down with the GOEX representatives on Saturday, September 9 to ask some of the questions of the muzzleloading community.

    You are correct. I can tell you from experience working in shops that did government contract work over the years. The government does not care how you get the order filled, so long as you meet the delivery schedule, and also meet the current ISO standards and federal sourcing laws. Most companies prioritize the government orders though, as missing a deadline not only incurs a penalty, but can also keep you from getting future contracts.

    Thanks for bringing us up to date on this highly anticipated topic and for all the ML news sharing you do here. Comforting to see the packaging remains basically the same, but more importantly that Estes is ensuring the QC of their production plant, thereby helping to ensure the long-term viability of blackpowder production here in the US. Can't wait to get my hands on some - it's been a long wait, but very happy to see its return. Now if only percussion cap production can follow suit.

    Great video. Thanks. As much as many of us in the shooting sports are suspicious of the federal government (and too often for good reason), having GOEX seen as an important part of the domestic US defense infrastructure is a very good thing for long-term availability of domestic black powder.

    Estes Energetics has a vested interest in ensuring reliable black powder production, over and above their government contracts. Their parent company, Estes Industries, is probably the best known manufacturer of model rocket motors. All Estes motors are black powder based, so one can imagine they go through quite a bit of powder in a given year.

    It might be useful to note that Estes Industries itself is a consumer for black powder. I don't know what percentage of production goes to Estes, what percentage would go to retail sales, and what percentage goes to military contracts. I assume that the connection with Estes will be an incentive to make the plant productive.

    • @vicroc4
      @vicroc4 Před 9 měsíci

      I suppose we'll see. Estes Industries has a long history of working with black powder for their model rocket motors, so they definitely have some clue as to what they're doing with it. I mean, I can't find a single article about their own production facilities exploding, and they've been running for nigh on sixty years. So I was somewhat relieved when I heard that Estes was involved.

    Hi Ethan, another good video. Hey could you do a video, on companies or people that are into exporting kit flintlocks to Australia. Be mind full that you have to send them to a gunshop here. But apart from that I would just need a form from the police. Would be interested in better quality guns but not out of touch with price. Very hard to get much here unless it from Italy or Spain.

    Like I have said before..do not depend on these powder companies. They are jacking their prices like crazy. Make your own powder and be self reliant. Add on a hazmat fee and you are getting screwed. Homemade powder can easily be made. Once you learn the process you can make some really good powder for cheap..and not have to rely on this way overpriced commercial stuff.

      Yes, making one's own powder can be time consuming, but so is waiting 3 years for production to ramp up. I started making my own near 20 years ago & still work out new techniques and recipes. I enjoy it a ton, & enjoy shooting a ton. Add in doing your own flint knapping, & the shooting goes on long after the public powder supply runs out. & yes. I worked an average of 60-75 hours a week.

    If the military consumes all the GOEX production capacity, we're at war. A big one. And don't really have to worry about much else.
    Having said that, the military uses black powder extensively for initiators in artillery shells...and for ejection seats. Pull the yellow-and-black striped handle, and a BP charge gets the seat out of the airplane (a rocket then takes over), the parachute out of the seat, and opens the parachute. It's really quite a complex system.

    The way I say it is like diesel fuel. You got farmers using farm grade tax-free diesel fuel well. I think the government should not be allowed to purchase Civilian black powder That's we the people product.
    That's exactly why I make my own.

    Not interested in GOEX at all. They closed without caring, just don't care to do business with them now. If they are now charging import prices, I'll buy the better import powder.
