I love them both but with the bespin content, jump to lightspeed and the consistent player base we went with SWG Legends.

I am playing both at the same time and I am loving it. All players I met are fantastic and charismatic people. The gameplay is different, but both ways to level the character are good. What makes me spend more time at SWGEMU right now is the fact that it is much more stable than Legends. When I'm leveling my Jedi in Legends, it feels like I'm playing on a PC from the 2000s on a dial-up internet. All places lags so much, even in places outside the cities where there are only me and six enemies on my screen.
When I press a skills bar hotkey, depending on the server’s time, it took about 15 seconds for them to be executed and getting loot from dead bodies on the floor is even worse, because the lootbox takes a while to open and when it's open I double click on the credits and I have to wait another 10 seconds for their server to receive my action. Now, imagine the time it takes to do this on 6 dead enemies. However I have a high end PC and the best internet that my neighborhood can have. Anyway, the simple, fast and effective experience of SWGEMU is currently captivating me more, but I know that the real fun is in Legends, because there I could for example use appearance items, which in my opinion is one of the best things they have developed for MMORPG games where our character is the focus of the game.
Wonderful comment. I've heard that complaint about lag. I've not experienced it but I would hate to be lagging during pvp.

@@AdventureGameHotspot I'm playing with 1 male and 1 female characters. Legends are: Linkg and Syang. SWGEMU are: Linkg Hage and Syang Hage. I accidentally used an option in Legends that Syang Hage went from level 1 to 90 in one click. And now I have a character at the maximum level with items from those who just created an account. I'm trying to collect credits with her to decrease Linkg Hage's grind. It was the only "purpose" I have managed to give her so far.

I play on the Basilisk EMU server and have done for years. It’s a shame that the amount of people on the server have dropped but I still prefer the sandbox nature of the original game.

The issue is that SWG was made a big thing because it was supposed to recreate the sense of being in the Star Wars universe as your own being. The NGE/Legends change completely eradicated that. You couldn't do what you wanted to do profession-wise, and there were jedi EVERYWHERE.
When you're trying hawk your wares or craft or just travel, and every 5 minutes you see a jedi, the immersion is gone. I'm sure it's fun to fight as a jedi, but I'd bet if you look at the professions in legends, whats the majority class: Jedi.
So, even if SWGEmu has less (all mmos have a limit if they aren't PG after all) I'll play for immersion over the jedi experience, which to be blunt, is what the NGE was ALL about. It doesn't matter if they "smoothed things out", the REASON people left wasn't becasue SoE borked a release, it's because SoE purged SWG of the things people wanted: A unique, star wars universe-esque game, not a game with wizards running around everywhere.
Haven't been on Legends. Never cared for the NGE but I did play it through to the end. My favorite era was probably (and I may stand alone on this) the CU period. It made the combat simpler but retained the profession trees that really allowed each character to be unique. Not sure if I'll go to Legends because I don't want to be stuck with a specific profession and having Jedi as a profession instead of something that you have to really either strive for or dumb into (since Jedi were actually uncommon during the GCW) makes it a kind of cheap experience. I had big Hope's for EMU but they are progressing way too slow for me. Played for a while and haven't been on in about a year.
You definitely aren't alone in that. A ton of people recognize that the CU was the greatest era of the game, and fortunately there's a CU server in beta right now that's getting very close to full release
Same NGE was why all my friends and I quit. To us that's what killed SWG.

Great vid man. I never played live but I started playing emu 5 years ago and finally tried legends this year and I love a lot of things about legends except the Jedi system and that being a Jedi isn't special on legends and I don't like the cookie cutter-ness of legends , but Legends as a whole I'd definitely better. I'll probably always go back and forth between the two like you do 👍 Glad they both exist 🙂

Quick question, what I really care about is the Jedi system. I'm R3 can u just chose to be a Jedi or do you have to work for it ? (the way it should be)
1.0 is only the start of the Emu. As for legends. I played all the classes in a day, got Jedi in a second. Couldn't hunt them either. BASILISK for Life
I remember playing on the pre cu swg and joined the corbantis server and saw a Jedi running through the starting area I chose at naboo. Then I didn't see another jedi for a month. The exclusivity of unlocking jedi and rising through the ranks is what made the game so awesome and has left me searching for something similar. People who wished for the cu and nge should have just quit and played WoW. It ruined a game with such uniqueness that has yet to be matched.
I saw a Jedi three times over my year of play. The first time I wondered why there was this crowd gathering... him simply busting out his lightsaber made jaws drop.
I was on Chilastra for 2 years. In that time, I saw one Jedi in the wild while driving by on a speeder, and one yank out his saber in the Dantooine Mining Outpost. Two whole years, I saw 2 Jedi. Cut to the NGE, I had to turn my volume down because all I heard was "*BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ*". It absolutely killed the mystique.
I played Pre-CU, subscribed every monty, throughout it's entirety. I played the CU off and on for a couple months. I played the NGE for one week, and then never logged back in. That alone should be enough of an argument as to why Pre-CU will always be a unique, and beloved time of SWG.
I also played on Corbantis! I remember the first time I saw a jedi. It was probably a year or so into the game, I was wandering and exploring Dathomir, had just visited the Sarlacc pit and got poisoned by it. Was nearly dead from the poison walking through a dark creepy forest at night when all of a sudden from the darkness I see a lightsaber. This guy walks up, doesn't say a word, and just heals me completely. Poison gone, full health, back to normal. I said thank you but he just disappeared. Didn't even see where he went.
I didn't see another Jedi for at least 6 months, maybe close to a year later. It was one of the most memorable MMO experiences I've ever had.

The best way I can compare this is WoW. They are almost parallels with Classic (basalisk) and Retail (legends)
For over a decade classic has retained popularity regardless of knowing every minor detail being picked apart and knowing how to minmax to the extreme, people still play it. I personally have a lot of fun; others do not and went back to retail. Retail you get new content and updates and all that good stuff. One isn't necessarily better than the other, it just depends on how you like to play the game.
I plan on playing legends, but right now I'm sinking a lot of time into basilisk because I'm just trying to get glowie; its the start of a new phase and grinding jedi is one of my gamer goals I've had for over a decade. Several of which I ticked off this year, surprisingly. Basilisk is in stasis, for sure. I'll be giving Legends a try soon; I think like most people when the NGE came out I was so angry and I really didn't give it a chance and honestly I'm a different type of gamer now. From the footage I've watched from Napyet it looks like something I'd really enjoy.
I was late to the party, being too young for classic SWG so I started playing around the NGE came around.
I've tried both and honestly the NGE just feels more playable, even if it's streamlined.
The learning curve in classic was real tedious, but I did like the rarity of Jedi in it.
Idk, the grind of spending months aimlessly killing enemies just to unlock the Jedi only for some chucklefuck to hunt you down a few times to ruin all that progress feels like it wouldn't be fun. Not for the Jedi at least.
Not everyone is cut out to be a jedi, which I rather like. I liked that they were a thing you could do if you wanted to REALLY try for it and put in the work, and that they were very rare, but I never really wanted to be one. In my opinion, the only way to really make Jedi work and be as special as they are supposed to be, is to make it ridiculously hard. And this is the time of the Empire. Jedi should be hiding as much as possible.
SWGemu barred me from playing with my brother and requested a picture of both of us together holding disks (unique box sets with all disks) showing part of our bodies like what the fuck?
basilisk for life. if they would only add random animations to melee attacks then it would be much better!!!! all the attack animations added to the stronghest skills it would be so awesome. Yeah you areright, NGE gets a lot more content, but anyways, combat system would never be defeated by NGE, they nerfed the whole system with that

I have heard Legends is pretty cool but SWGEMU is alive and well... Yes Basilisk is basically an Alpha server but there are a bunch of servers built on SWGemu that are sanctioned and are very active.

I just looked at the server population right now and Basilisk is 329, Legends is 1109
NGE is why SWG died it's final death. If legends is based on NGE I would rather pass.
I agree with the former but not the latter. The way SOE dumped it on us left us jilted. Legends has done a good job patching the rocky relationship.
I'm also excited for Restoration. Are you a CU fan?
I agree with this comment. NGE was specifically why I stopped playing. I felt my time was devalued the second they made Jedi not special.
Them butchering the XP system into a WoW clone isn’t something to celebrate or emulate IMO.
@@RDR911 I remember that feeling. Combat upgrade was a shock in itself but at least we knew it was coming. NGE happened overnight. It's like your wife inviting another man into the house and saying that we need to be okay with it or leave.
@@RDR911 The NGE has 50x more content than Pre-CU, there's nothing to do in Pre-CU you just go around killing mobs.

Got tired of it, I started playing on legends Its Nge not my favorite style of swg but I do like playing there good community and good population. Sr I love because of all the custom mods and the community is awesome. Heavy staff presence on Discord and weekly server-wide events come check us out

isn't SWGEMU ready to be in BETA? Their forum updates indicate they are VERY close to completion. At which point, the EMU population would hop up considerably. Basilisk isn't a content issue, it's the fact that the game is horribly dead in terms of population.... it's an MMORPG not a solo-playing story experience. If you look like SWG Restoration that is almost nearing completion, which means population will also spike. It is not fair to compare Legends to Basilisk, because you are looking at a development versus completed product. Why would I play on basilisk only to have it wiped in a few months?
Hi Gabe. I love the dialogue. Basilisk is considered SWGEmu's Alpha server. The other EMU's are a beta version since Bas is a test server.
I think we all hope it wipes soon and goes into beta. That will fix the population issue. Nobody wants to play the game because everyone is credit rich and it's content poor. Nothing to do or spend the credits on so the market is gassed. A wipe will reset.
I'm not sure they really plan on doing anything going forward. I have no inside knowledge but from the devs that I have talked to with Emu and other versions of SWG it very much seems like they are satisfied with holding true to exactly 14.1 while helping the core 3 for other emu's. Nobody SAID that, but it's the vibe that I get.
I'm very excited for R3. We did a developer interview that you may be interested a couple months back. Some exciting stuff over there.

It's hard to imagine that I am nearly 26 dying to play PRE-CU again but it looks like I will have a wife and kids before that happens. BUT..... Restoration is one I am so so excited for. @@gabeszymarek7688 My feel is that it will never move into the next phase. After 10 years I think we can assume that the ambition has worn off.
In regards to R3, I just spoke with him again. Originally he was hoping for the beginning of January however now he's not sure. There was some holiday delays but no setbacks.
@@AdventureGameHotspot That was honestly my fear. I was perusing the forums last night and it looks like a classic case of "bit off more than they can chew." The undertaking was massive and unfortunately the love begins to taper when you've dedicated your freetime to something for the last 15 years of your life. I would be ready to ditch it or move it to a new set of developers but that seems impossible. R3 holds the most promise. Pre-Nge kind of felt like a perfect hybrid between PRE-CU/NGE so I think it will draw the masses. I'll make the call now.... SWG Legends and Restoration will be the well known contenders from this point forward.

As much as I want to support this video, I can't. While I respect your opinion on this subject, but you are making biased assumptions that are ignorant and misleading. It is not fair to compare Pre CU vs. NGE due to how Sony screwed everything up with this game that caused the PreCU/NGE split. If you want to provide a true unbiased opinion, you need to spend more time comparing apples to apples, not apples to pineapples. The systems are completely different from one to another. On one side you have a truly conceptualized, albeit flawed Sandbox MMO. And on the other, you have a theme parked MMO that received more content than the other due to a redesign on the Sandbox. Additionally, and probably the last point I make on this post is that without the SWGEmu project securing the ability to bring out a server in a legal sense, Legends and many other EMUS on SWG wouldnt be alive today without heavy scrutiny. I will gladly talk with you openly on this matter if you want.
I hear ya. However, we are not comparing eras of games. We are suggesting what game gives you the most playability in 2021.
I play on Basilisk. I have wanted to play on Legends as well but I'm computer illiterate and can't figure out how to get them both to work on the same computer. I know there are directions out there but I just don't understand moving stuff to different folders and renaming and so on to keep them from being in conflict. I don't want to delete the swgemu just to be able to download legends. If someone came out with step by step directions to click here and do this and click there and do this type thing I'd gladly play both.
You just create a whole new folder with the source files. Then you download the legends launcher in the new folder.
It's essentially the same as emu but doing it twice. 😃
I recently tried SWGEMU's new server "The Finalizer". I reckon it'll be dead again real soon as there's absolutely nothing new!

I play on Legends. That being said - I had fun for about a week, but SWG is lacking in so many ways compared to Everquest and Final Fantasy XI, that i can only recommend SWG to the most hardcore of Star Wars fans. In terms of a sandbox MMO id probably recommend Black Desert Online as its more modern and easier to get into, and in terms of older MMO's id recommend FFXI or EQ way before recommending SWG.
Usually play on Basilisk or whatever smaller server I'm checking out whenever I get the itch to play SWG, but I just can't enjoy Legends outside of playing JTL content. Many of the NGE changes ruin it for me, and were why me and my father both quit on Live after sticking them out for months. It may be the most 'complete' form of the game with the most content, but I'd sooner go play another mmo over Legends. The work the Legends team does is amazing though and I have nothing for respect for them.
I respect that SS. In fact, I was in your shoes. I gave Legends s chance and I really enjoy it.

@@AdventureGameHotspot I do plan on giving it a go. I quite enjoyed CU, even if I prefer pre-CU, and Restoration 3 will definitely have enough to drag me over to at least try. It may even replace basilisk for the foreseeable future if it manages to deliver well on most of what it's trying to do.
You are comparing 2 different games. NGE is a bad WoW wanna be. If you like crafting and actual SWG game, Basilisk "wins"

I played on Both and both are fun but, I stopped playing on Basilisk some time ago just because it did get old and now just play on Legends. Pre CU was more fun on live because you had thousands of people to play with an not knowing everything about the game an could not google it was a lot of fun. Where Legends is adding new things to do in game.

@@fiftydabs5114 sadly, Jedi is about as easy as it gets. BH is pretty intricate. Well, pve is pretty simple but the bh quest line is pretty specific.

Why would someone play Legends?? Isnt it NGE?? 9 professions (jedi including!!!wtf??!!) Instead of how many? 39 professions??? And you can really feel the joy when you once reach jedi, which was almost impossible back then. Its not about jedi, its about a normal life as a normal soldier or even crafter out in a big galaxy!
NGE be like: hey here, take luke skywalker as a starter character!!! Wtf.... i can play Jedi fallen order if i want that!
How can someone prefer NGE over Pre CU??? Yes the content but content doesnt matter if you have no good game! No epicness, no style! They can and WILL add content to Swgemu once it reaches 1.0 anyway! I jzst dont get it how people can think: 'hey cool, we now have 9 proffesions instead of 39'! And hey its cool to not have Creature Handler anymore....!! I dont belive people find that cool or do they really??? Wow.... i dont get it. Still ABSOLUTELY pissed about SOE and still very very mad when i think back to 2005!! Turn a absolut bad ass game into a common WoW mmo... so mad! Someone has to understand me plz! I hear ya and I agree with you. However, all things are not equal. We are not comparing what is or was the better era of SWG. It's comparing what is a better option for 2021.
Unfortunately there is nothing to do in emu. We have done everything and have everything. The community is dead. The market is dead. Guilds are dead.
Legends is fun whether it's golden age swg or not. Plus there is incredible content and very active community.
Basillisk for me! playing on basillisk since release in 2012 and had alot of fun special in the first years of the server without all those bots and afkers! but since swgemu is using the 14.1 casual version of pre-cu i still hope that someone will make us a pre9 or at least 14.1 server with the original features of swg (TEF system, rare OP jedi, permadeath, etc) im sick of playing the cut down 14.1 version which made me quit the game back in the day!
pre9 deservers a server and i would pay alot of money for such server!
casual jedis, generic combatant system and afk bots did ruin a huge part of this game
really thinkin of changing over to the nge but i cant deal with the broken crappy combat system and the generic professions,.... this is not my galaxies but its almost the same with 14.1... its missing too much good features! swg deserves better!

I was playing r3 for a while and love the system for "classless" characters but the server population is just too love and unfinished for me to fully enjoy so I think I'm gonna play legends while I wait for r3 to get more populated and expanded on..
The server was really big and active for the first couple of months. Just below Legends. Everyone burned through the content and now many are waiting for Mustafar and Jedi (and some big fixes).
@@AdventureGameHotspot yeah that and it also just seems to be missing some of the original content that legends provides.. maybe I'm wrong and r3 just doesn't explain the game as well for noobs but just the overall emptiness and lack of direction bugs me a bit.. I like the combat and feel of legends more but I like the classless choose your own style of r3 so I'm torn
I'll always prefer Basilisk to Legends. NGE isn't even the same game. It's an absolutely different experience - The population comes and goes in waves, and each time it dwindles, it shoots back up a couple months later. Mostly due to people unwilling to stick around until they know 1.0 is out and the server wipe is done and over.
Legends is fine for what it is - an NGE server. It's cool they're adding new content, but that's not what SWG was about. It was about creating a living, breathing Star Wars universe. Play however you want, mix and match professions, community-run cities filled with players and socializing, a player-run economy that moved with trends and dumped at a moments notice when a new idea came up, etc...
NGE yanked away a lot of what made SWG so unique and enjoyable. It wasn't about quests, or a half-assed "theme park" experience. It was about the ability to create a character and live your own Star Wars life. And the NGE just felt like "WoW, but with a Star Wars skin", much like SWTOR. Yes, it's cool that JTL works, but there's also a lot of poorly curated and weird additions to Legends that just don't mesh with SWG, from both a gameplay and engine standpoint. It tries to turn the game into a typical "Reach endgame and go raid" type of game, which there's already a thousand of. And to be completely honest, SWTOR does it better at this point.
In the end, I'd rather have a janky unique experience than a janky, cookie-cutter MMO. And Basilisk has always brought in the kind of people who want to realize the original dream of SWG - To create a living, breathing community in a Star Wars universe. After all, the original tagline for Star Wars Galaxies was... "Experience the greatest Star Wars Saga ever told: Yours."
And that's why Basilisk will always be the winner for me. Because it's a fantastic escape into a different universe with a ton of folks who just wanted to "live" Star Wars, not a constant race to get better gear, fight a boss, get better gear, repeat, etc.

@@AdventureGameHotspot I didnt "dislike" the CU. I do prefer the weird, queue based combat more because of it's ability to plan/string together combinations of abilities without having to spend more time looking at a cooldown than the actual game. But as a whole, CU was way less an egregious afront to SWG than the NGE, and actually managed giving it that WoW feel better than the jank-fest that was NGE. Couple that with it not removing any content, aside from the old combat system, and it was serviceable.
I'd have to say, regardless of how some folks feel about this statement, if you are judging swgemu or pre-CU by Basalisk alone, you are grossly missing the point. Basilisk is a positively miserable experience. Go get on one of the private pre-CU servers. Lots of them have regular development and content updates as well as balance fixes, and all new content and concepts that make the game much more fun to play and enjoy. I do get that we wouldn't have those servers without the emu teams hard work and I do appreciate that. However, the Basalisk server itself is the what would happen if the color beige came to life. It's like a plain white sheet of paper, not very exciting at all. The private servers take that plain white paper and draw an awesome piece of art on it or fold it into a crane.

so you compare apples to tomatoes? wow waste of time, Legends use leaked source code from SWG-post NGE... SWGEmu has created the server from scratch for 10 years on the devs spare time with no head start what so ever.
I think that you either missed the pulse of the video or didn't watch it. Unless you are suggesting that we make a video as to which fruit that we should eat in 2021.
The goal is to suggest a server in 2021. A question that we get all of the time. I feel that we made very solid suggestions for very solid reasons.
People forget to mention how expensive SW galaxies is. They fail to mention but in order to actually play these emulators you need the original copy of the game.
Now i'm sure you're thinking "that's no big deal" well have you SEEN the prices? On legends they say copies are sold on amazon and ebay so I decided to look and all my hopes of ever playing this game have been crushed.
264 dollars?!?!?!?!?!?!? There's no way i'm spending that much! Even if I did have the money I dont even think it's worth it. It looks like it's close to being my dream star wars game but from what I can tell it's not. I want to be a smuggler that became a jedi, looks like you're limited to one thing only. Bummer. But I still wanted to try! But any hope of trying it is crushed by the overpriced copies.
This has to be the most expensive MMO emulator in history.

@@AdventureGameHotspot Would if I could. But in order to play star wars galaxies legends you need the original copy of the game installed and I unfortunately do not own it and to get a copy costs two hundred dollars. So unfortunately I can't play

How can i install legends?
Unfortunately Legends has the worst customer service period. I had to deal with them on an account issue in which case they claimed I was ban even though I showed proof that I didn't do what they claimed. I even made it up to one of the top people who help create the server with still no luck. Everything from being bounced around to different people and getting different responses to down right lies claiming I had committed a violation. I kind of lost all respect for their emulator after that point and as someone who absolutely loves SWG it was hard to walk away from all my progress and friends in the game.

Basilisk ftw. Dont get me wrong, legends has the heroics, but its wrapped around the piss poor NGE skill trees. The CU emu is the way forward tho, combines preCU skill trees with NGE heroics.
legends is just one big long boring quest line. swgemu is the one to play
The Legacy quest is optional. If people wanted to do regular quests, like in swgemu they can do those too.
I was trying to see more about legends, but you lost me at nge. The cu ruined swg.
Give it a shot and see. If you don't like it then at least you gave it a real attempt. It's not exactly what it was immediately upon the change 🙂

I keep hearing "oh in NGE they dumbed down the game from 32 proff to 9 or w/e " simply is not true. In pre-cu in PVE most of ur defense vs stats and melee defense etc is irrelevant. Mobs have too high accuracy they will hit you regardless of ur resistances. not to mention theres 2-3 professions viable for high end PVE. i dont want to go into pvp part where certain part of skill points is needed to even be viable on basilisk or most pre-cu servers
As for the actuall combat system , now that is debatable. Some prefer the que combat , some WoW - NGE like

I agree with him. Games should evolve. Can you imagine any game without any patch , stuck in a certain patch , no fixes , no changes to any aspect of the game.. no updates.

Is basilisk the same server from late 2016 and early 2017? That was the last time I played. Is it really the same server? No resets? No suncrusher release with the Jedi and village system they were testing? I really wish I could find a timeline of the history of the swgemu. The community was always full of scum and villainy. The project leaders and server mods are always corrupt. Lot's of shady drama and hacking. I think the mouse should just put the project out of it's misery. That would be the real silver lining. Star wars is dead. Gaming is dead. We can never go back bros.
I don't know about all of what you are referring to but I can say that the game is the same now as it was back then 🙂

Legends sucks! and is the death of swg it is implementing disney contentent and that is not my reality sorry I will ive go 2 ways in life hate star wars because of the new movies or remember star wars before 2001 before the pre cruals and the secauls existed. Its sad to see the death of not just swg but Star wars its self

it is BASILISK. not BASKILISK. The only K in the names is at the end of the word. Cant even listen to the video because your mispronunciation is driving me batty. BASILISK FOREVER because having everything handed to you is no fun.
Obviously it’s Basilisk. I wrote it out 3 times in the description. I get people telling me that it sounds like I’m using the K all of the time on our SWG show. I think it’s a syllable transition flaw that I cannot break 🤕

Emu combat system sucks to me. NGE is way better to me. As for the class system, it's just like old wow. You pick the best one's and don't think about them again. So who cares about the 100 different classes. If it's not viable most people won't play it.
