      HeroRR. All that is why i can't sell my 91 even though i bought a low mile 05. The grey seat with white wheels is the 2nd or 3rd best looking bike ever...1st Honda RC30 (much $$$$$$) 2nd (tie) is VFR750f and Ducati 916...

      I used to own a 1993 VFR 750 white. It was my best bike owned. Like you said it was great for twisty's, everyday commute. etc. :)

      Forgot to mention, if you still have your 1991 bike you should try taking the battery out of. My friend who had his VFR750 did that one winter, and when put his battery back in the bike wouldn't start, it crank, but no spark. So the shop he took it to said it was the plugs and $250 later...he went to pick up the bike, again it refused to start, the mechanic came out with a screw driver flipped a switch or something under the seat and poof the bike started. My friend said "there goes my $250". From that point on he knew if removed the battery he would have to flip the switch (I guess) and before the bike would start and tested it to show me. I never got to see what he did, and I never took my battery out of my own VFR750. So if you know what I am talking about...you should do a video, maybe check if your newer VFR has the same switch.

      I got my 96 with 80000 miles cracked fairings but stable at speed and mechanically perfect for 850. Now I’m going to spend 4 times what the bike cost (still a steal!) getting her looking pretty and upgrading suspension and brakes

      I got a white RC36 Gen. 1 and I get quite often some compliments about the bike. Once I parked it next to a custom Harley and when I returned to my ride there was a group of bikers gathered around guess what... Yeah, my VFR. You should have seen the face of the Harley rider who just happened to return to his bike at the same time.

    There is no bike on the earth that holds a line as well as the VFR it is suspension away frome utter perfection, don't let anyone tell you different. The VFR is the absolute ultimate road bike. Ron Haslam bought one out of a shop for a race and won on the VFR against full on sportbikes.

  • @sonicheadfuck
    @sonicheadfuck Před 7 lety +7

    I love my VFR. I've owned three, an 87 an 89 and this model. The older ones never had the single sided swing arm and the rear tyres weren't as wide as the 91. IT got bike of the year five years in a row. There are stories of VFR's hitting 250,000 miles. They're bullet proof engines. The older the Honda, the better. You have a great machine there. She won't let you down. :-)

    @peter7624 Před 5 lety +3

    Had my VFR750F for almost a year now. Everything in the video is correct. Great power and torque. The roadholding is excellent. Brakes not great but ok if kept clean and lubed. Mines a '94 and still on it's original reg/rec. although the original Mitsubishi fuel pump packed up after "only" 25 years, replaced by a £20 ebay special. (Honda wanted over £300 for a replacement Mitsubishi item. Fuel consumption's not great by modern standards (mid to high 40's) but that wonderful VFR sound when you wack the throttle open is probably part of the reason.

    • @Legend-wu7pj

      Mid to high 40s mpg is still great! Better than my cars

  • @vfr7505
    @vfr7505 Před 7 lety +19

    Just a little correction, the reliability issues were on the VF700 and VF750's, NOT ANY of the VFR range (so from RC24 onwards...i.e. 1986 to 1997).
    The rectifier itself is rarely the issue, it's poorly maintained/developed wiring (see the blocks on the right side near the engine case) and earthing points (particularly the one behind the headlights) that cause it to overheat. A finned RR will work but it's a band aid rather than a cure, albeit one that might last forever :)
    See my channel for VFR related stuff, my bike's special :)

    Great review! Thanks. I just bought my first VFR750 1992 after starting with 2 Yam Diversion 600. First ride was on jan 3rd , 300km to home and had a ball! This is awesome! Much easier on teh highway at 130kmh but still handling very well when riding slower. Of course I am not testing any limits yet and probably never will but I know this is a great bike. Bought it for 500 euro with spanking new Michelin Pilot 4 tyres and am a happy camoper. Already planning a 4 day trip to Germany in May with the VFR club Holland. Be safe and live a happy biking life HeroRR

    Honestly, it is a very pretty bike I think. Especially for the era it was made in. I think it's one of the prettiest and best looking 90's bikes made, honestly. Can't understand why you dont like the look of it that much. Nice video and amazing bike.

I love that it's a perfect mix of performance, comfort, and reliability. Go read reviews of these bikes online. 3rd and 4th gen are my favorite. Keep posting VFR videos!

    I've owned 30+ bikes over the years, including the latest Litre bikes. My 93 VFR is in the top 2. It was that good...as you have eluded to. To your brakes comment. New lines and modern Sintered pads and they are really good for a road bike.

  • @hvymtal8566
    @hvymtal8566 Před 7 lety +4

    The one thing that is consistent across all VFRs is that they hide their weight extraordinarily well. Only the RC46 VTEC feels actually heavy and only at parking lot speeds thanks to those high side-mounted radiators full of antifreeze. I have an RC79 and no joke it feels like its 50 pounds lighter than it is. Yeah you lose the gear driven cams on VTEC and after but its still cable throttle, you get unlinked abs on the 79 (nbd for linked likers but big for linked haters), traction control, very well-integrated luggage, a pretty but not ostentatious exterior, very nice seat design (axctually not too bad for a stock seat, as good as my EX250F seat if not better), supremely well-integrated luggage, etc etc. I've been seeing gradually more VFRs on the road anf its not hard to see why if you look beyond the spec sheet . If it weren't 90+ horsepower and 500+ pounds it wouldn't be too bad for a first bike, and that is very high praise

    I put 42k miles on my 1991 VFR before I bought another bike (CBR929). I love the VFR and still have it despite it being flooded from hurricane Wilma. One day she may run again, I hope.

  • @sandonpreston7529
    @sandonpreston7529 Před 4 lety +2

    The Gen 3 has one terrible flaw. The regulator rectifier is prone to burn out. I have a 92 that I've had for years. Luckily there's a solution! A guy makes a harness called the VFRNESS. It is all heavier gauge wires and basically plug in and go. It even comes with a starter relay connector if that plug is melted. You don't even have to completely remove the old stuff. I put in a new RR, stator and soldered in the relay plug. My bike is as good as new. But I still carry an extra RR under the seat, just in case.

    Great, informative video. I'm in the UK and I passed my motorcycle test last week. And I think I'll be getting a VFR of some description as my first bike once I've saved a bit of money. I'm looking at 750s and 800s and the general consensus seems to be that they're great all-rounders.
    I'm in my mid-30's and have been driving cars for nearly 20 years. I'm after character, not all out speed.

    Why is it that every American doing a review on a bike that's more than 6 months old assumes it's just going to be absolute shit? The VFR especially, was the peak of fully mechanical carb fuelled engines and decent quality build materials. New bikes are either tiny (R1?) or too bloated (1200GS?) and rely on computers to correct rider error (traction control, ABS, anti stall systems etc etc) the super light composites crumble at the lightest knock and handling gives too much instant, unearned gratification. There's more sense of accomplishment getting something old and front heavy like a GPZ900 round a tight corner at 45mph than the same bend at 90mph on a CBR600.

    • @mildyproductive9726
      @mildyproductive9726 Před 3 lety +1

      The modern sports bikes react instantly as soon as you start doing anything at all with the bars. Part of this is from the shorter wheelbases and more aggressive steering, which necessitates steering dampers. The 90's VFR is amazing. You have to plan your moves about 0.02 seconds farther ahead than on a CBR. But between adjustments, the bike feels like a train on rails. Immovable, immutable, and just incredible. And inputs can be made crisper, more precisely. You don't just push harder or softer on the bars. You can form and shape your inputs, and 0.02 seconds later, the VFR executes exactly.
      In the twisties, flicking a CBR in feels like a weeble wobble toy that rolls around. Push left, lean more left. And w/e direction it leans feels like up. On the VFR, you slam the bike over and for a split second you're in freefall. Then you catch the bike at your target angle. So much fun in the twisties. And highway comfort for hours with no handlebar buzz. It's the perfect bike, and we should go backwards and make bikes exactly like these 90's gems.

    That's an insult to this bike to suggest it drags parts while riding around like Miss Daisy. This isn't a Harley.

      +Joshua gsxr750 first you need to understand the difference between torque and horsepower. The vfr has more torque. Especially off the line and in the midrange. But the cbr just has loads more power especially on the top end. Cbr is much more powerful the vfr cannot compare to the cbr even when the cbr was stock.
