I never understand why she says "Newcastle via Chester Le Street" "Liverpool Lime Street via Northallerton" , "Aberdeen via Edinburgh" and "Saltburn via Middlesbrough" , when there's only one route to these destinations
At Exeter St David's she says Exmouth Via Exeter Central. Or whatever is heading through Central. It is only one Route again. Then at Exeter Central she says Paignton Via Exeter St David's or whatever is heading through St David's. Again only one route there.
Aberdeen or Inverness "via Edinburgh" makes a bit of sense, because its a very large destination, and essentially an extension of the standard service to Edinburgh, although as you say there is no other route so why bother - "via Northallerton" is pointless as it's not a particularly large place and it's read out in the 'calling at' section anyway. The 'via' announcement makes sense for something like LNWR trains on the WCML that may or may not be going via Northampton, Brum New St / Trent valley, Stoke / Crewe etc. That's the 'proper' use of them.
I think the ‘via’ points are just well used stations in most cases. On GWR they announce trains as Severn Beach via Clifton Down, probably because staff would constantly get asked ‘is this train going to Clifton Down’. The same with Exmouth via Exeter Central
Wow, Anne has now reached to Darlington. Wonderful announcements recorded there Tom. Wonder if Doncaster could be next to have automated announcements? Season greetings Tom :-)
Nice video of the new announcements at Darlington. Shame they’ve got Greg Scott bellowing out the speakers with that tactile paving announcement though when they could just get Anne to do one
@@faberoony90 maybe, but I have a hunch it’s not part of the base for SWR as it’s not preceded by a chime at stations where the chime is enabled, which makes me think they got Anne to record it then just manually uploaded it for some reason
Some more naughty trespassers, first time hearing a video where the train would not be calling at certain stations for that reason. I wonder if York or Newcastle may sound just like this and Peterborough in the future, although I do think the we are sorry that the and we are sorry to announce that this train being cancelled features along with the attention please would be better, and if saying this company apologizes, the inconvenience this may cause you and disruption to your journey today would be better like Avanti West Coast’s stations instead of inconvenience caused and with the train formed of coaches instead of saying it has that. Heck I think maybe the way the announcements are featured at those places would sound better at Leeds, this station, York and Newcastle, maybe Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street too.
To be honest, I remember going to darlington in 2021 and me and my family had to wait another hour for a train because it got cancelled. There were other routes to get back but they would take longer than what we would need to do to wait for another train (reason why we had to wait another hour: we get off at thornaby and there's only one route if you don't want to go via newcastle) I mean this was during a literal storm (think it was storm arwen) also stoopid trespassers
darlingtoooon 👏👏👏👏 you literally could of had a chance of walking past my uncle or grandad 💀💀💀 Edit: NICE CATCH ON THE "the train approaching platform whatever does not stop here" ANNOUNCEMENT- USUALLY THE TRAINS THAT DONT STOP AT DARLINGTON GO ON THE EXTRA TRACK BEHIND THAT WALL THINGY ON PLATFORM 1- edit 2: SINCE WHEN DID TRAINS FROM DARLINGTON GO TO PLYMOUTH- well that makes it easier to go back to newquay I guess 😃
You legend! I’m from Darlington and my dream is to make a 00 gauge model of it so this will be perfect for speakers!

It's only fairly recently she's started doing it aswell, it's very unnecessary isnt it!

Likely Anne's is already in the base system from SWR's addition, just not used.
Thanks! Yeah they should use SWR's
