- Leon is joined by Brand New Heavies' Carleen Anderson and Michael Franti of Spearhead on a special and intimate set at the Paradiso venue in Amsterdam.
Backed by Leon's own DOX Orchestra, and the Zapp! string quartet, he re-arranged and re-mixed a selection of his own masterpieces.
Here, Leon gives a rendition of the classic soul track he and close soul-mate Marvin Gaye penned for the seminal 1976 'I Want You' album.
" Let me say this, it was the dearest moment I ever had in my life; the artist was Marvin Gaye and the song is I Want You. " - Hudba
I was the Bassplayer during this great concert.
And I remember when we played this song, there was magic in the air and I got really emotional while playing it. Beautiful memory !
great bassist man and a lucky man also x
Peter Bergman I cry every time I hear this song ...it’s so beautiful and the arrangements simply divine💕💕💕💕
Had to be magical. I'm also a bass player and would give the world to just play this one song with Leon. This is
around the time when he started coming around again same voice as the 70s and freaked everybody out. How was it being in his presence? I know he had a great soul. Did he smoke weed with u all in the dam? This is one of my fantasy concerts I would have wanted to experience. Much love, god bless
Congratulations for The great performance, man. Can you tell us a little bit more about that night? What can you tell us about Mr Ware? Thank you, cheers!
well done sir
R.I.P. Leon Ware...You gave us wonderful music!
For me this could be a a song the Earth is singing to us.
There's something almost spiritual about this song
I concur

To all you people who actually went to this concert....I'M SO JEALOUS !!!!!! Fantastic version of a classic song.

Mdr
An exercise in restraint and integrity to the music. Absolute Magic!!!
I was there that magical night in 2001. The feeling is still inside of me. Blessing that I witnessed it. Pure love translated to music.
Man I envy you.
Cool man, wish I had been there too, plus I love Amsterdam
You are big time blessed.
Great Track, Sung Beautifully By Marvin, Leon and Tashan ❤❤
I always loved Leon's music & writing. He penned some of the sexiest songs known to man. I had the occasion to share this with him, after his, Love's Drippin project & found him to be very gracious & kind. Rise In Power, Leon. Your legacy lives on.
I never get sick of this can almost feel Marvin Gaye and Leon in the same room, it doesn't get better than this.
LEON WAS AN AMAZING WRITER/PRODUCER AND I MISS MY FRIEND RIH
Leon Ware gave this masterpiece to Marvin (OK so Berry Gordy didn't give LW much choice) - his continued collaboration with Marvin produced so many fantastic songs. They'll stay with me forever.
Leon Ware you are God sent...
Abraham Jackson yes he was.
I didn't think I would like any other version of this but i was rockin to that G funk

So sad we lost this legend. May you rest in paradise ❤
I'm addicted to this...have been for weeks...listen nn times a day!
I did as well. Now I'm hooked on Why I came to California.
Some don't realize that Leon's not copying Marvin, but Leon wrote this song. However, he worked closely with Marvin on material he wrote. He has writing for Michael Jackson as well!
yeah , only Robin thicke copies Marvin(blurred lines)!
Thank you for educating the uneducated! Ware was a prolific songwriter!
King Hussein we need to teach these youngins about real music 💜
Leon also wrote for Ike & Tina Turner, The Temptations, The Isley Brother, Teena Marie, Bobby Womack, Parliament, Quincy Jones and more!
@@kingjayhussein5673 And a legendary one!
Yes yes i was thinking the same thing to..his voice is so soul reaching..God certainly gifted him with a mesmerizing voice..

It's a beautiful rendition worthy of praising the late Marvin Gaye ❤️
It is a great cover and originally Leon wrote the song!
Are you on Facebook
He wrote the song.
The backup singers are superb 👌🏽 👏🏼 😍
He wrote a beautiful song. Leon!❤
Thank you for introducing me to Leon Ware. He's amazing. I didn't know he wrote these songs. He sounds like Marvin and has the same inflections. It's like Marvin copied him. So similar it's uncanny.
Amazing..what can else can one say...a brilliant moment... aww... Mr. Marvin Gaye...and then you know it. God bless. We were gifted!❤️
I'm so sad that the last comment here was two years ago. This is pure gold! Leon Ware was one of the best musicians ever! Long live to this incredible genius...
Why do I cry seeing this when the song is full of sensual touch, not for kids, adult, blah, blah, blah. The song as a whole touches on the very existence of us human being. This particular live performance by the author seems to embrace what us human being should all aspire to, not only sexuality but also sense of respect and co-existence of and with others. Those two reasons come to my mind.
I love you, Leon Ware, because you were a beautiful human being. You taught me the power of art, power of music, and most of all, the power of being one of human being.
Leon Ware was clearly a great singer, but no one should attempt to redo this record by Marvin Gaye. This is literally one of the greatest records ever, if not the greatest. God bless the soul of Marvin Gaye. Rest in peace Leon Ware.
This is awesome. Leon wrote a masterpiece of a song, and he (no matter how old he is in this video) and the rest of these talented musicians perform a version of his song that does justice to Marvin's.
❤️Leon Ware! Peace!
Never thumbs down a legend! what's wrong with someone here?
Oh my goodness - that was so close to Marvin. Absolutely brilliant.
Beautiful voice and rendition!
Never heard him sing his song before..he's killing it on point.
Thanks for writing this song for Marvin Gaye Leon...It's a standard classic, still sounding as good as when I first heard it in the 60's. Loving your performance of it also.
Absolutely mesmerizing
This version is most intense, passionate and intimate. This is only for couples who are truly in love!
WOW Im 24 and grateful I Ran ACROSS this!!!! HISTORICAL
A true soul music legend unique and one of a kind the feeling and depth this man put into his music is so special.
Been listening to Leon for the last 5 years. I Found his music through hip hop. He wrote for so many people, that I am speechless from Tina turner jackson 5 to even Maxwell. I am like speechless! This man was Amazing. He even wrote for Marvin gaye and Tina Marie! Wish he was still around! I am Blessed to have found his music
I feel the same sentiment. I was introduced to Leon by a friend through a mutual love of Marvin, and his track record is so impressive and impactful. I wish he was here today, but the legacy he has left has lived on in the form of great music and production.
haunting.....
Wow... I never knew Leon Ware wrote this wonderful song...what a gentleman...he never openly took credit for it. What grace...and how lovely. A true tribute! Two wonderful artists! RIP.❤️
Sounds like, and style, of marvin gaye. love it.
YES!! HE WROTE THIS! HE'S ON MARVIN'S CREDITS ON CD! HE'S A BAD, BAD BROTHA AS WELL!! 💖💯🙏👍
Fantastic!!
I have listened to this so many times - I'm sitting in a crowded space ear phones plugged in feeling goosebumps so cool
What a beautiful performance. Loved Marvin Gaye's version but didnt know Leon wrote it.
One word: SOUL
Leon is the man no doubt but sometimes a singer can give a song even if he didn't write it his own personal touch thus making it his own. That's what Marvine Gaye did to "I Want You." Note what Leon says in the beginning "the dearest moment in his life." Acknowledging the greatness of Mr. Gaye. That's humbling. This is a boss concert wish I was there.
Wow just Amazing!🎤🎶
I cannot stop viewing this video! Creative, tight-performance, awe inspiring. I love the Mavin Gaye version but this is another dimension! Thank you Leon.
Leon your a genius
This is a beautiful song Marvin gaye and leon ware great song rip both
Of them wonderful singers the world has lost
Balanço Total ! ESPETACULAR .!!!!!!!!❤❤❤ .
Absolutely beautiful.....where is this kind of music today? Beautiful melody, lyrics and background vocals are oh so pretty. There is no one like Marvin, but Leon Ware is the only vocalist to do this song justice similar to Marvin. LOVE IT!
It is written and composed by Master Ware! I love Marvin...Mr Gaye delivered without compromise
Leon Ware. (February 16, 1940 - February 23, 2017)
Fantastic
Awesome..♥!!!
My word . You’re the bollocks. Top man living it
Rest in Peace Leon Ware. You were a true Icon.
Extrem. Best sound. God bless you Mr.ware.
very good, cant remember having ever heard anyone able to respond to a Marvin Gaye song with any kind of quality at all, until this
Although the credit to the songwriters is kind of hidden in the description above (and partially incorrect), this is actually a Leon Ware song. Leon and the late Arthur Ross both wrote this for Marvin's 1976 album of the same title.
R.I.P. Mr. Ware, A true unsung music legend ! M
BRAVO!!!!
Amazing performance, his voice touches my soul deeply!!

Wow such an intimate setting. You see the musicians right close to you. That must be really really nice. Good job to all the musicians on this song. Of course Mr Ware did justice to his original song made famous by Marvin Gaye. Rest in peace to both gentlemen.
