I love how you notice Madonna's signature moves. One of the things that irks me is when people complain about Madonna rolling around on the floor all over her Instagram page in her 60s, and I just think, what do you expect? She's always done that! Why should she stop now? She isn't being any more audacious and provocative than she ever has. She's just older. Love your reactions!

Thank you so much! :) And age is just a number - No reason for her to stop the fun now!

The video is a play on Beauty (Madonna) & the Beast (lion) - the lion becomes a "prince" who carries her away. Also, the video was filmed in Venice, which is symbolized by a lion.

The winged lion is the symbol of St Mark the Evangelist, patron saint of Venice. In early Christian Venice, the city state had a puritanical code on sexuality and sex, where homosexuality and fornication were capital offenses. In many social parties Venetians wore costumes and masks to hide their identity for discretion and privacy, earning it one of its titles as the “City of Masks”. As norms and taboos gradually relaxed, Venice would developed a romantic appeal and become a favorite destination for lovers, honeymooners and those seeking romantic adventures. Some music critics read the lion masked man carrying Madonna in a virginal wedding dress into bed was her paying homage to the transformation of Venice from a sexually-repressed culture to a modern city of romantic trysts.

I saw it below - Beauty & Beast end up together❤.
Madonna's first Number# 1 in 1984 - at that time quite daring and blasting America with her music😊

Like A Virgin (LAV) appealed to Madonna’s artistic sense for enigma, hidden innuendos, multi messaging and interpretations in her music, often eliciting controversies. Madonna had a strict Catholic upbringing and named after her late, beloved mother who was a devout Catholic; the word Madonna (old Italian for “my lady”) was the title Catholics and Orthodox Christians attributed to early iconography (statues, paintings) of the Virgin Mary usually portrayed with the Child Jesus that the faithful venerated. Whereas, the Virgin Mary was for Christians a paragon of virtues; chaste, pious, meek and obedient to God/St Joseph/Jesus-all male figures; Madonna as a pop music icon, presents in modern culture the opposite image that of a liberated, rebellious, feminist empowered performing artist who will not be censured by a male-dominated authoritarian establishment.
She surprised and shocked the pop music world with her iconic performance of LAV in September of 1984 during the debut live show of the MTV VMAs before LAV’s single/video release in October and the album in December 1984. LAV would become one of her signature songs. Luv your insightful reaction.

The "set" is Venice !!! The signature figure on the flag is a lion. The symbolism is in very levels ... the mask and the final look of her is Carnivale, that's happen in final days of january in the italian city. Mary Lambert directed the video, lately directed Like a Prayer too. 🇺🇾✌🏻💙

I was a kid in Catholic school when this came out...I remember hearing about "Madonna Like a Virgin" and then seeing her with all the rosaries and crucifixes...I was like, does this have something to do with church?

@@OurAnxiousReactions well as you’re on the Madonna journey from the very beginning it might be interesting to see all of them in the order as her singles. But if you think it’s too much to ask here’s my personal top 3: Who’s That Girl tour because it was her first major world tour that caused some commotion on the way, Blond Ambition tour cause it’s the most epic and defining one according to the general press, and The Confessions Tour because it’s just my favorite one, very classy!!!

There’s a reason to why you don’t remember the lion. There are two version of this video, one having more shots of the lion. The version aired on tv didn’t have as many scenes with it, just the version released in the 1984 home video “Madonna”. Your memory is not playing games on you, you are absolutely right about not having any memory of the lion 😂

Did you know that this song was written by a Man and about his traumatic breakup with his girlfriend.. he shopped it around for male singers at various record labels and it got into the hands of Madonna…. But this song originally was written for a male singer…

One of her best videos and songs, and you nailed the feeling of the song and how it wasn’t about virginal sex, though the video hints at that at the end when she’s wearing all black. Fun Fact: The guy who wrote this song said that it was about his own feelings being in a new relationship and that as it was from a males perspective, he never imagined it being sung by a female. He loved Madonna’s interpretation of it however, and the royalties it earned. Lol
