  • Maybe if I give them what they want they'll stop inheriting things.

    Unpopular Opinion: I actually quite like nobles. They give you something to do if your fortress doesn't need anything in particular at the moment. Additionally, their ability to console upset dwarves means that the more of them you have, the more often dwarves who are stressed can let off some steam. For worldbuilding, they're pretty neat to; I like to think of them as governments-in-exile from places conquered by foul goblins, and I wonder if I take back those places, they'll leave to go back to ruling those areas.

      I like giving them bookeeping, managing and brokering positions.
      If they're going to have nice offices/throne rooms, better use it.
      And also makes a lot of sense.

      @@arthurbarros5189that's not optimal, it kinds makes sense but those things might take away time where they would give positive thoughts, but sub-optimal its fine too, its just that I'm kinda of a min maxer

    I think inheriting a barony is a lot like getting a call that your estranged uncle has left you his fortune, as long as you pay the remaining estate fees. And these dwarfs are simply too embarrassed to admit they were scammed so they keep up the charade.

    i think you can solve this by killing all your dwarves

    at one point goblins invaded and destroyed my entire home civilization, so i got 6 simultaneous notifications that 6 of my dwarves were promoted to barons/baronesses, and my mayor was now the queen. making rooms to satisfy all their demands was a nightmare, and they demanded i manufacture so many querns

    Huh turns out my complete negligence of the noble's production orders got random dwarfs imprisoned or killed all this time.. oh well.

  • @satch5471
    @satch5471 Před 8 měsíci +10

    Had this happen once, then the nobles started making the most outrageous production demands and trade mandates and i lost track.
    My fortress ended up exploding when 3 years later i finally got around to appointing a sheriff/hammerer and he proceeded to beat literally everyone in the fort to death of over offences by now several years old.
    By the end of it all that was left of the fort where a handful of nobles, and out of the population half was beaten to death and the other half was slowly dying of dehydration in a hospital ward with noone to care for them.

    Seek infant: Infant inaccessible....
    *WHAT?*

  • @Daniel16180
    @Daniel16180 Před 8 měsíci +5

    Did...did one of those nobles ask for 422 infants?

    • @yobgodababua1862
      @yobgodababua1862 Před 8 měsíci +6

      I think it asked for the same infant 422 times.
      The larger question is why the infant was inaccessible, and what relation it had to the baroness in question.

    Hey Hoodie. You're the best. Do you think you could do a video on trying to make a not-Dwarf fortress? As in having humans, goblins, elves and everything in-between outnumbering the Dwarfs?

      I think Kitfox made some video tutorials to help get people started but honestly, I feel like one has just got to throw themselves into it. Remember "Losing is Fun" and treat DF as a roguelike. You will definitely learn from each loss and if you story-fy things like Hoodie does even the losses can be hilarious.
      Also, love your name. 😸
