The first time I got to see the inside of a C-130 was when my Father was stationed in Evreux France from 1960 to 1964. As a young boy I was amazed at everything on the place, my father had to drag me away so others could get a tour. What great memories.
The first time I’ve seen inside of one of these! At the National Guard watching the opening ceremony to the Kentucky Derby 2024. One just flew over. Huge military aircraft fan!!
All that cargo in the back will be rolled to the very edge of the ramp which is not all the way down but rather 3/4 of the way down to allow the cargo to be taken straight off the bird with a forklift, rolled out onto a trailer and/or truck, etc. That "box" fits directly under the ramp as a means of support. Hydraulics tend to leak and that could cause the ramp to drop down all the way. The support means less wear and tear on the ramp and it's hydraulic system.
Just finished my Aeromedical Evacuation Course on one of these. By far, the best aircraft to work. Not to small or big, plenty of room, comfy seats and great crew. I'm very happy I transferred from the Army to the Airforce.😅😅
I retired from the Air Force when the J models were just coming out. Have they reintroduced the engineer position? That was supposed to be one of the big changes from H model to J model was that the engineer and the navigator were gone.
They have a shorter take off than a C-17, so they can operate out of more places. An advantage. They can fly lower than larger cargo planes, allowing aerial delivery to frontline troops that they would otherwise not get, another advantage.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do now career-wise?
I've been inside many c130s, always impressive..one of the greatest birds ever created.

USAF-Retired. I miss riding Space-A since COVID kick up, but maybe it will open up in the near future. Thanks for the tour!
I flew Space-A a lot as a kid. Hope we can get it going again. Just need Covid to quiet down a bit.
I've ridden in these beasts more than once. What a plane!
Excellent and amazing! Well done sir

Yep. Both positions are gone in the J. Never flew with engineers but had Navs on the 135. Miss having them along.
You use to fly kc135?
@@glennholland2431 C-130 primarily. I worked on KC-135 for a couple months on deployment but I was primarily a trash hauler LS tech.
