Unevolved Pokemon were given stronger movesets to compensate for their stats, evolved Pokemon were given terrible movesets to undermine their stats. • @fruitsalad2379
      @fruitsalad2379 Před měsícem +5

      Onix is not great in rentals, but it has some saving graces that I think make it worth considering. It has an OK speed tier and access to explosion/selfdestruct in all three formats mentioned. It actually has the highest speed out of any of the rock-grounds, though that's not saying much since you still don't want to have it in against any fast water or ice type. But I think it's a lot better than the other mons on the list, since it can wall electrics and has the speed-tier to get at least SOMETHING done so long as you don't pit it against a Starmie or Alakazam.
      Again, it's not super good or anything, but being rock-ground and having a decently fast Explosion button gives it some viability, though said Explosion is not super strong, you could weaken the mon and then revenge kill it with something faster.
      I'd argue that something like Golem or Marowak is worse than Onix

      Well he also fixed all the shit the devs did in JPN PS1; the game clearly favors the AI; so much so that it was the devs who altered the games code to make the AI 50-80% luckier than any player could ever be. The most % the player will ever get is 15% crit rate in everything and any move that is 80% or below is 50% for the player and 90% of the AI. OHKO moves are 5% for the player, 50% for AI. Also AI has the 1/255 removed for them only. So a MUCH better amount of fixes of unfucking a game and fixing what needed fixed. Several reasons why the JP PS1 is viewed in such disfavor.

Me and my friends battling in full 3D with announcer VO...it was an incredible feat. Even WWE games at the time didn't have commentary or weight classes. So yes the game may have flaws...but for a new I.P. and from a dev most people had never even heard of that allowed you to connect a GB game to the N64 to enhance your experience and offer interactivity...I fully commend them for the effort. Especially when you look at the blandness and lack of risk modern gaming applies.

    Surpised Kingler didn't make the list. Compared with all the other waters it is slow, low base HP and Special. Only coverage move is Normal. It gets Substitute in Poke Cup but it has nothing to use to set up with after dropping the sub.

    • @ChrisPTY507
      @ChrisPTY507 Před měsícem +1

    • @DemonRaticate
      @DemonRaticate Před měsícem +1

      To add, iirc even with such low Special, Kingler has a good shot at 3hko'ing Snorlax with Crabhammer. Heck if the variant isn't Reflect, it also has the powerful Swords Dance + Hyper Beam/Body Slam combo to work off of.
      In rentals, Crabhammer + Normal move was all it really needs. And it gets it. Crabhammer + Stomp/Strength. Not the best by a mile, but Crabhammer just carries it past utter garbage to passable.

    I'll never forget the time I tried to transfer my Blue Team to Stadium, only to get a very annoying, rude awakening. I got Mew fairly early thanks to the Teleport glitch. However, once I got my whole team up to Level 50, I learned that Stadium wouldn't let me use Mew. I had to waste time grinding up a Drowzee/Hypno. Why not Alakazam? Because I have a personal hang up about using the same mind as my in game Rival. Not sure why, but I just do. Lol

    Should Hitmonlee be at this slot I feel like it is better than all entries 8,9,10? It has great attack and relatively good moves by stadium standards. Hitmonlee has low accuracy but it hits hard when it hits

  • @ScottE-2
    @ScottE-2 Před měsícem +2

    If Hitmonchan had the special stat reflecting what he'd get in gen 2, it'd probably be pretty decent all things considered. Or heck if the Mega moves were fighting type instead things would be different... but man. A lot of Pokémon get done dirty in Stadium 1. Same with Stadium 2 because the devs showed no pity toward fully evolved Pokémon compared to their unevolved counter-parts.

  • @McC0n0r

    Was wondering if you were going to mention competitive since Parasect being awful in general is (unfortunately) no surprise and Fighting and Bug types being garbage in Gen 1 is also well known amongst comp players. I don't play competitive Gen 1 but I know Rhydon is a big boi, so while it was surprising to see it on the list, the reason was to be expected. Stadium just loves giving Pokemon awful move sets. Of course they aren't going to make the rental Pokemon OP but when a Pokemon is stuck with shit like Metronome or OHKO moves, you start to question if the game was even meant to be beaten with a rental team...

    • @ShiningJudgment666
      @ShiningJudgment666 Před 26 dny

      The learnsets you get without TMs really don't do it justice. EQ and Rock Slide are all you really need on it in normal circumstances but Body Slam and the thick Substitutes it can put up really make it a great anti-Electric and physically defensive behemoth.
